  2. Looks like Ramsey is in the midst of a good year so he's likely moved up a bit in prospect-land since those pre-season ranks. On the other hand he's a 24 y/o in AA so probably not a phenom. Bottom line here is that I'm for any deal where a decent-to-good pitcher does NOT wind up on the Yanquis.
  3. Nice getting the sweet end of a 7th inning debacle for a change. We spent far too many years being on the wrong side of those exchanges more often than not.
  4. d'Arnaud getting the DGANG start. Not so much for Jimmy Rollins or Carlos Ruiz, but that's what happens once you start receiving AARP cards. Curtis Granderson, rf Daniel Murphy, 2b David Wright, 3b Lucas Duda, 1b Travis d'Arnaud, c Chris Young, lf Juan Lagares, cf Ruben Tejada, ss Zack Wheeler, rhp Ben Revere, cf Grady Sizemore, lf Chase Utley, 2b Ryan Howard, 1b Marlon Byrd, rf Cody Asche, 3b Wil Nieves, c Andres Blanco, ss Kyle Kendrick, rhp

  6. * Thanks very much for reinventing yourself as a pitcher, fighting your way back to the majors after 7 years, and giving us a halfway decent start in your return Jason Lane (see above) - you've been DFA'd * God the Rangers suck! * The Cards & Padres played a 3-1, 8-1/2 inning game last night with only 12 total hits and one in-inning pitching change - and it still managed to take them 3 hours, 20 minutes. A short time ago I wouldn't have though that was even possible; now it's becoming routine.
  7. It's the CitiField version of 'Pleasantville'
  8. Not expecting Gary Cooper to show up even though it's at High Noon. I mean, you never know, but even back when Ralph used to call Gary Carter 'Gary Cooper' every once in a while I don't think Gary Cooper ever showed up. Being dead since before the Mets were ever invented might have something to do with that. Wheeler vs Kendrick I think we can beat Kendrick up. He doesn't look like much of a pitcher to me and, besides, is only listed at 5' 2" [fimg=400:33isy3uj]http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131019094655/twilightsaga/images/4/4c/Anna_Kendrick.jpg[/fimg:33isy3uj]

  12. Yeah, but Fran Healy was a nightly assault on the senses.
  13. I never heard of this Philly reliever about to come in the game Ken Giles, former 7th round pick* called up just six weeks ago, 17 games, 18 innings, 26 Ks, 4 BB, 11 Hits, 2 runs allowed * out of Yavapai College in Prescott Arizona .... Yavapai, really?
  14. I think Hamels threw half the pitches he's thrown tonight in the 1st inning.
  15. I wouldn't do any of them. While I'd like to upgrade the SS position we're not in a position where we need to do so NOW!!!! and trade-deadline deals are exactly the type where contending (or hopeful) teams overpay precisely because they need it NOW!!!! and often have to out-bid other contenders in the process. And besides, Tulowitski might not even available for the next month * Gee and Plawecki for Starlin Castro -- Maybe if I though Castro were a better SS * Syndergaard for Javier Baez -- Not a Freakin' chance * Syndergaard, Murphy, and Plawecki for Tulowitski * Syndergaard, Plawecki, Flores, and Amed Rosario for Tulowitski If we're going to be picking up Tulowitski's contract, both its length and its size and with the injury history to boot, the Rox are going to have to settle for a lesser human package in return.
  16. I miss neither those shirts nor Fran Healy.

Tejada got winged with a pitch in the head last week and so Campbell was pressed into emergency service at SS for a couple of innings. Wiilmer was summoned the next day even though Tejada only wound up sitting one game. Nieuwenhuis was sent down, something he really didn't deserve but it did help even up the IF/OF imbalance that had existed for a while.

Actually I'm not even sure it was a natural selection (I just couldn't resist the joke). But with Barney not hitting a lick before being DFA'd by the Cubs and with Dee Gordon already at 2B in LA, I'm not really sure what the Dodgers want with Barney except maybe to keep his superior defense away from the rival Giants. SF recently picked up Dan Uggla and he's already made 3 errors in 3 games there bringing him to 12 on the year in just 36 game starts (an annual pace of 54 for an everyday starter). He's also 0-for-8 w/4 Ks since being picked up. I'd make fun of him some more but we have to play the Giants soon and I'm always convinced that Uggla will hit 4 or 5 HRs in the series.

  21. Might be about time to stick a fork in them BoSox. While both the Rays & Sawx had bad first halves, the Rays have come alive (11 wins in last 12 and just2.5 behind Yanx) and just about killed any thoughts of David Price on the trading block. But the Sox are going backwards if anything. Romped on 14-1 last night by the Jays, they're 10 games under .500, at a negative 50 in RS/RA, and suddenly it's Jon Lester trade rumors dominating. Jason Lane pitched for the Padres yesterday afternoon. If that name sounds vaguely familiar it's because he had a somewhat successful career as an OF for the Astros a decade or so back including a 26 HR/54 XBH year when Houston went to the WS in 2005. (I also remember him as an oft-rumored trade target to the Mets in those days). But he just crashed and burned after that '05 season and was gone from the Astros and then from majors by 2007 at age 30. So that's it, right? No, he's been kicking around the minors since then, for six different organizations at least twice that many locations and with three separate stops in independent leagues. He started appearing occasionally as a pitcher and by 2012 had completely made the transition to the mound. So yesterday, a full seven years after his last ML game, he got the start against the Braves in Atlanta, taking the loss but only giving up 2 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings while his teammates were, not surprisingly for the Pads, being shut out. He winds up being the oldest pitcher (37) to make his mound debut and go at least 5 innings since ... Satchel Paige
  22. Colon - 4.0 d'Arnaud - 3.0 Lagares - 1.0 Murphy - 1.0 Duda - 1.0
  23. Nationals, up 6-0 much of the game in Florida, go into the 9th up by 3 still but Raphael Soriano blows the 'cake' save and the Marlins win it walk-off style 7-6
  24. Not often that a team gets 13 hits and still gets smushed.
  25. btw, I think it was in the 1st inning when discussing a spinning foul ball that Ronnie said it looked like a hit that was made by 'Fats Domino'. Umm, I think you meant 'Minnesota Fats' Ronnie. No beer for you tonight in the announcer of the game points.
