  1. Mike Vaccaro (NY Post) agrees with you if that's any consolation, saying it's time to cut bait on CY. He isnt a one-man band of futility, though it does feel that way sometimes. Chris Young isnt all that ails the Mets. He isnt the only muffled bat in the order. He isnt the one who threw the wild pitch that tied the game; Jeurys Familia did that. He didnt serve up the game-winner to Pablo Sandoval; Jenrry Mejia did that. So maybe doing what needs to be done with Young will feel like the worst kind of scape-goating, blaming him for things that arent of his doing, identifying one crack in a driveway in Sausalito as the source of the San Andreas Fault. Maybe thatll make Sandy Alderson feel sad. Doesnt matter. And he goes on from there. Nothing harsh, more just an acknowledgment that, after a 250 AB trial, it isn't working. I guess the alternatives are either den Dekker or, if they're leery of becoming overly LHB-heavy, Andrew Brown. I wonder if either Young would have some trade value, even if just a smidgen? CY would shirley clear waivers and EYJ (you could flip him in favor of MdD) probably would as well. Now that all the deadline frenzy stuff has passed, deals for guys like this are probably more likely in August as some contending team suddenly has to cover an injury (McCutcheon just went down for example) or simply decides they could use an extra PH to make the opposing manager think twice about the LHP he's got in there © or to use an occasional spark plug type (E) Maybe this is what Sandy has in mind.
  2. And just as I was about to start a thread saying that I was ready to cut ties with Abreu, the Mets beat me to it. Nieuwenhuis, rather than den Dekker, recalled.
  3. NYM also-rans who went on to better careers than the actual NL ROY winner Kevin Mitchell over Todd Worrell Gregg Jefferies over Jerome Walton Gregg Jefferies over Chris Sabo Jose Reyes over Dontrelle Willis

But it would have been a real nice play by either one of them. Also more Young's ball than Lagares's so it's tough to ask him to just back off at that point and assume that Juan is going to make a backhand snag while doing a Spiderman leap against the wall. And that's all assuming CY even knew where JL was in the first place. When Wright was arguing, he tossed his bat, helmet and wristbands. The latitude he got suggested to me that the umpire knew it was a bad call. When Duda actually argued a bit as well, it seemed pretty clear we were getting squeezed. Three clearly low pitches were called strikes. The Wright & Duda ones were both strike threes while Murphy also took one and barked about it that was earlier in the count so less devastating.. They could've won 3 of 4 this series and only got one. Not good at all. The sticks went 8 for 83 over the first three games, and then today both top relievers couldn't get through an inning unscathed. Tough to win that way.
  5. This is like back to the early part of the season where the first two batters of the game score but then only once more over the next 3-1/2 hours.

There's no chance of there being a save situation for the Mets in this game. Mejia already in the 20+ pitch range so this point is moot anyway.

  8. Hunter Pence just signed up for a MySpace account
  9. EYoung in for CYoung - actually in for the pitcher so he'll lead off. We might need two innings out of Mejia today.
  10. Sergio Romo in for Giants. Their former, but now demoted, closer has been very hittable lately.
  11. Centerfield wrote: My Gamecast tells me Duda has been ejected. For real? Only Terry Did he sulk in an offensive way? He got so mad he whispered in harsh tones.
  12. Don't know that I like this pitching change. With two out and none on Edgin can handle a light-hitting RHB at the bottom of a lineup, especially when the team is already three relievers deep. I mean, geez, the Giants left their LOOGY in to face Dabid in a similar situation.
  13. Well that inning could have been a whole lot worse - and certainly looked like it was going to be.
  14. One lengthy, trying, high pitch-count, half-inning out of three for each pitcher so far.
  15. Hudson threw, just in the 1st inning, nearly 30% of the number of pitches that Bumgarner threw all game yesterday. 27 vs 94 So there's that.
  16. Tim Hudson vs Gee Hudson: 8-8, but with a tidy 2.71 ERA and 1.12 WHiP. Nice numbers for a 39 y/o coming off having EYJ stomp on his ankle last August and grind it into tinker-toys. This will be the second time we've faced him since then, he pitched the middle of the three games in SF back in June, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits over 5 IP and leaving on the short side of a game that the Giants later won when Mejia allowed two in the 9th Gee still looking to find his pre-injury form, has been pretty shaky in three of his four games since coming off the DL Keith Hernandez was a surprise inclusion in the lineup yesterday, making a rare DGANG appearance. Look for Bill Webb to put him in again despite the early start or any impending conflicts with Hamptons traffic, dinner reservations, or travel plans afterward.
  17. Only two hours into the game in Fenway tonight and they're already through 4 innings!!! 7-4 Sox as I type this but the score changes every two or three minutes so depending on how quickly you're reading this ... Fortunately for the Sox Jeter's been there to pour a bucket onto the end of each Yanqui rally.
  18. Lost weekend, hell, lost WEEK, for the Braves out in SoCal as they first got themselves swept out of LA and then got swept out of SD, scoring a total of just 13 runs in the process. Three of the six losses came via extra-inning walk-offs (like there's any other way to lose an extra-inning game on the road). Marlins lost 3 of 4 to Cincy. Nats and Phils split their four-game series. Rest of the division gets the day off tomorrow while we finish things off w/San Fran, with the exception of the Nats hosting a one-game make-up with the Orioles.
  19. Gregg Jefferies ... TWICE!!
  20. I guess I should include Cincy in the NL Central race (even though I don't believe they'll be a factor in the end) as they're at least hanging around the fringes of the lead. So I'll slot them 3rd in my rooting list behind Pitt & Milw but ahead of the DeadBirds
  21. The SHaMs are off to an 8-7 start, on pace for 36 (35.73) 2nd-half wins.
  22. deGrom - 4.5 Familia - 0.5 Mejia - 0.4 Murphy - 1.0 Wright - 0.8 Lagares - 1.0 Flores - 1.0 d'Arnaud - 0.8
  23. batmagadanleadoff wrote: I should probably read the new rule closely before I post this, but ... I can't figure out what's so new about the new rule. Rule 7.13 stipulates: "unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher cannot block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. If, in the judgment of the Umpire, the catcher, without possession of the ball, blocks the pathway of the runner, the Umpire shall call or signal the runner safe." I too originally thought the new rule to be intended more as a clarification than a shift in thinking, but the way it's been enforced over the first 2/3 of the season certainly looks more like a major change.
  24. From my mini-KTE within yesterday's IGT: Lately [the Giants have been using] Morse in LF (which does horrible things to your defense) As the saying goes; I believe I had that one.
