  1. Juan shoots down another one. Dom Brown out at home by multiple feet.

  3. Three walks in less than 6 innings (including one of the 4-pitch variety and another to the pitcher leading off an inning) plus now a head-high HBP (Ryan Howard just got his shoulder in front of his face) suggests that Niese's location is his worst enemy both today and in his recent starts when he's been serving up a bunch of taters.

  5. Nice job by the Cleveland Native Americans this weekend, bouncing back after a bad loss Friday to hold Skankee bats to just one run total over two games. Yanx start a six game road trip tonight with three in Baltimore then three in Tampa. A bad week here would really do some damage to their October dreams. A good week, followed as it is by visits from the much softer Houston & ChiSox, puts them right in the thick of things. Detroit gets another shot at them towards the end of the month so, Mr. MGiM, tell your Tiggers that they have one last chance to get off my shit-list (and I'm sure they're worrying themselves sick over this)
  6. Carlyle - 0.4 Murphy - 1.0 Duda - 1.0 Lagares - 0.6
  7. It'd be fine by me if that's the way they went. The only obstacle is going to be tuning out all those who'll be in a rush to declare it a failure before such heresy can even begin.
  8. To reiterate a rushed post in the IGT: Mejia is on a BAD run lately. - This is now SIX straight outings for Jennry with [u:211g3fqr]2 or more hits allowed[/u:211g3fqr], all one inning outings except for today where he never reached one full IP. That he managed to squirm out of allowing runs to score in 3 of those 6 outings might make things seem not nearly as bad as it could be. - Those most recent six games now include two Blown Save/losses - He's had a "clean" inning (no hits, no walks) in just one of his last 12 appearances. - Season long ERA is now approaching 4.00 The 'good' thing about this stretch is that we're not dealing with a closer who was lured and signed and paid with some sort of promise (spoken or implied) that he be stamped with the words 'THE CLOSER' on his forehead come hell or high water. IOW, one of the advantages of dealing with a young closer like this is that it should be easy to change on the fly, even it it's just for a short time. It may be time that Familia, or maybe even Edgin, take the reins for the immediate future while Mejia sorts out his problems or his injuries or whatever. The race for saves leader isn't over yet!!
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Mejia has given up hits to 40% of the batters he's faced lately: 12 hits in (including Revere & Rollins) his last 30 hitters faced over 6 outings. And now we can expand that list to his last 13 outings where he's blown three saves, lost twice, and had a clean 1-2-3 inning just twice. This all goes back to pre-ASB that the bad outings have vastly outnumbered the good.
  10. Mejia has given up hits to 40% of the batters he's faced lately: 12 hits in (including Revere & Rollins) his last 30 hitters faced over 6 outings.
  11. JOSE, JOSE / JOSE, JOSE!!! Reyes's two-out hit off Joba ties up the Tigers in the 9th ... and after that Joba leaves 'em loaded so there'll be free baseball in Toronto
  12. That E by Wilmer really screws things up (not that the three hits which followed were damaging too) - But Black was about to get out of the 7th with a low pitch count (got the first 2 outs on 3 pitches) so Terry either could have either hung with him for the 8th or went to Edgin for the LHBs in the middle of the order - Now, with Familia not available today, he's got to find an 8th inning bridge to Mejia
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Confused why a righty is facing Utley here. Tying run at the plate. Cuz Eveland isn't available and Utley has 2 HRs off of Edgin including a recent GS.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Wilmer showing some vulnerability to his left also. The official scorer was unsure how to score that play, so they awarded a hit ... to Jeter!
  15. Phillies booth lamenting the lack of chin music. That's the lament of fans from just about all losing teams: they throw at/in-on us all the time and we never retaliate
  16. You had me at ????????
  17. Eddie = Falsetto voice Kyle = False setta skills
  18. Justin DeFratus (note: No little d) sounds like a fruity kind of soft drink. Can't believe the Nats @ Atlanta are just starting up right now following a long rain delay! Ten minutes after 11 PM EDT and they're in the bottom of the 1st.
  19. Yeah, stick with Campbell here (rather than go to MdD) ... better contact hitter.
  20. 10th straight NYM extra inning game that's gone at least until the 11th inning. Gary says that's a club record.
  21. While the Mets are striving towards the finish line in this game, Dave Stoeller and his buddies are striving towards the finish line in 'The Little 500' on the other channel. I have faith in both tonight.
  22. The thing about a 12 pitch AB against Papelbon is that it takes up about 8 or 9 minutes. btw Keith, lay off the bat boy. He's in the dugout and if that gets in Ruiz's way then that's Cooch's problem.
  23. Another common call-up type is the guy who can play all over including middle infield, which leads to the interesting candidate of: T. J. Rivera The 25 y/o out of the Bronx via Troy University in Alabama (you know, that tried and true pipeline) is currently in AA where he's played 2B/SS/3B/1B/DH and is hitting .344/.379/.435 with a minor league career total of .314/.364/.409 across 1,500+ ABs And while that's not a lot of walks or a ton of pop, he has hit for average at every stop and he's made every stop: Kingsport - Brooklyn - Savannah - St Lucie - Binghamton, since being signed by the Mets in 2011 after going undrafted. He would be the first eligible but undrafted player to make the Mets since 2004
  24. Grandy - RF Murphy - 2B Davey - 3B Soupy - LF Doodie - 1B d'Arnie - C Largy - CF Florey - SS Gee-ey - P
