  1. Let's just make this easier for future use: 1. Mets RF Curtis Granderson is 2-for-15 with six strikeouts against [insert that night's starting pitcher]
  2. Good news: only singles for the Pads tonight Bad News: they have 416 of them

NOPE - Recker's throw to Murphy ... NOPE - Gee's throw to Recker ... NOPE So I think we're down to Wilmer's throw to Murphy and maybe a ritual flip to Duda from the dugout as he came off at the end of the inning (although I'm just assuming Lucas caught those though I didn't actually see him catch any).
  4. HAS ANYBODY ON THE METS CAUGHT A FUCKING BALL TONIGHT?????

  6. I think I've figured out the Padres' game plan: hit 52 liners to short CF in a row. We should try that.
  7. I have trouble remembering our last successful sac bunt. I also have trouble remembering the last time a sac bunt against us wasn't successful - usually effortlessly and on the first pitch it seems.
  8. Well somebody needs to go down prior to game time in order to allow them to activate Gee and they've already said it's not going to be a reliever. So Castellanos, along with Campbell and Muno, are stepping lightly right about now.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Anybody remember the last Eric Campbell plate appearance? He's still on the team, right? It's not his last plate appearance, it's his last HIT that's the real stumper. (May 18th, 15 days and 29 PAs ago)
  10. A 9:10 EDT start time tonight. Pads start one of their FA acquisitions from their massive off-season makeover, 'Big Game' James Shields (although I don't think this qualifies as a big game so we're OK here). Shields is 6-0 w/SD this year although with only moderately good peripherals [3.69 ERA, 1.22 WHiP] and a league leading 15 HRs served up (although how that affects us I couldn't possibly imagine). Mets counter with the newly returned Dillon Gee (I think we're up to version 7.4 on him already) I'd like to suggest some lineup switches to, I don't know, maybe score some runs and cut back on the 85 strikeouts we've racked up over the last two nights (someone might want to check my math) but right now there's no one on the bench who even deserves to be in the major leagues much less in the starting lineup [non-regs are combining for a .165/.236/.257 line while K-ing in 1/3 of their ABs].
  11. Since Cashner left the game early in the 5th inning Monday night, I think the Padres pitchers have thrown about 80% breaking balls to Met hitters. OK it's probably not that high, but between Monday's relievers, Kennedy the starter today, and especially Thayer who just got yanked, they've been the opposite of challenging. ... and down goes Duda on some junk.
  12. Zvon wrote: I think Plawecki's just bushed. Has now struck out in 1/4 of his ML PAs. That may be bushed or simply not ready, but either way I think those who were eager to replace d'Arnaud were a bit premature. RBI by Wilmer ... comeback is starting!
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Amazing beyond amazing, Syndergaard had the same night tonight that Cashner had last night. As Gary said earlier, double-digit hits and Ks by a pitcher in 5 innings or less had never been done before in the history of the game ... and now it happens two days in a row in the same series.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Outside of the triple they didn't even hit him that hard. Just a big pile o' breaks. Even that triple was more well-placed than it was smoked. I thought he would bounce back from that inning even though he gave up 4, but that turned out to be his best inning.
  15. Kevin Pillar is our AL hero of the day (that's Pillar, not to be confused with the yappy ex-BoSox Kevin Millar) Only 2 HRs on the season coming into tonight for the Blue Jays CF, but he took Max Scherzer deep twice in the night cap of the DH in Washington today (the 2nd one w/2 on) so it looks like a split for the Nats today: 7-3 Jays heading to bottom 9 That makes our game for at least temporary control of 1st place in the NL East.
  16. We're usually scouring around for lineups at this time of day but even that gets pushed back by several hours when we're out west. So does firing managers as Willie R can tell you.
  17. Just my opinion here -- and I don't generally even look at how others are voting much less notice a trend -- but I did today and Tejada seems to me to be getting schorted his schare of Schaefer considering his 3 hit (2B + 2 1Bs) 2 RS performance (Monday night's 7-0 rout of SD) one that saw his as the first guy on base in every run scoring inning except for the one that produced the final run and only the K + K/CS sequence prevented him from scoring more after he got to 3rd w/none out.
  18. Met batters made 8 outs in the field last night. 16 Ks plus 3 runners erased on DPs took care of the other. Non Ks: 1st inning: Granderson popped out 3rd: Murphy caught stealing 5th: Plawecki FO to RCF 6th: Granderson lined out to 2nd 7th: Ceciliani lined into DP 8th: Lagares GO, deGrom GiDP 9th: Tejada Foul Out, Murphy Line Out
  19. Syndergaard - 5.0 Duda - 2.0 Cuddyer - 1.8 Murphy - 1.2
  20. deGrom - 3.0 Familia - 1.0 Murphy - 1.0 Flores - 1.5 Cuddyer - 1.5 Duda - 1.0 Plawecki - 0.5 Lagares - 0.5
  21. deGrom - 5.0 Murphy - 2.5 Tejada - 1.5 Flores - 0.5 Lagares - 0.5
  22. Nats with a day/night DH today -- both of which should be finished by the time we even get going -- so by the early hours Wednesday AM there could be as much as a 1.5 game swing in either direction.
  23. Gotta like 'em quick west coast games.
  24. Really King Felix -- tonight is the night you picked to suck? And how odd is it that the Mets & Yanx are both on the west coast at the same time? And not just for a game but for an entire series. May have happened once or twice before but probably not more than that.
  25. With virtually all their outs coming via strikeouts, the Mets are going to wind up with an outrageous BABiP for tonight's game. It's going to be a very strange line score indeed.
