  2. The second-place Mets play the first-place Phillies at 4:05 PM (SNY and FS1). At a minimum, you won't waste your entire evening on the Mets, just the late afternoon and early evening. And remember what Keith said, "it's only a game" (I know he's Keith Hernandez but go F yourself). Our hopes are on the arm of a player that didn't pitch above AA before 2021, Tylor Megill (RHP) who is facing Ranger Suarez (LHP) who has been moved into the rotation. He hasn't gone more than 3 innings which seems like nothing but that's just 2 innings less than the typical Mets starter. Kevin Pillar has hit a HR against Suarez so I'm guessing that he's the starting CF tomorrow. Or RF. Or LF. What's the difference? https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-phillies/2021/08/07/632981#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=632981https://www.mlb.com/gameday/mets-vs-phillies/2021/08/07/632981#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=632981 Weather: https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/weather.phphttps://www.rotowire.com/baseball/weather.php Odds: https://www.sportsline.com/mlb/game-forecast/MLB_20210807_NYM@PHI/https://www.sportsline.com/mlb/game-forecast/MLB_20210807_NYM@PHI/ Lineups: METS: 1. 3. Did Luis think that Stroman would hit into a DP and that was Nimmo's job? If he swung and hit into a DP, unless it went to the 3B or P, it would have meant a run.
  4. Imagine if ATL had Acuna. They lost 2/3ds of their starting OF, and not just any OF'er but one of the best in the game, but that hasn't stopped them.

That would have required some initiative, some creative thinking, and not just asking Lindor who to get. The point being that Kennedy has already allowed more HRs in his short time as a Philly than Diaz has all year. iow: bullpens are fickle beasts Valid but at least they made an effort. Scott (soon to be unemployed) and Sandy (soon to retire) made one move. Maybe they knew that the season was going down the tubes.
  7. It's fine. The players like each other, they have the horse in the dugout and all those cute hand signals. That's what counts.
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: =bmfc1 post_id=73720 time=1628302316 user_id=73] Yet another 8th inning where the heralded Mets BP, the one that they didn't upgrade, turns a one-run deficit into a bigger deficit. It could be worse, we could have traded for Ian Kennedy.
  9. Drury has had his fun and we have seen this week why an even worse team like AZ waived him.
  10. Yet another 8th inning where the heralded Mets BP, the one that they didn't upgrade, turns a one-run deficit into a bigger deficit.
  11. 3-1 pitch, borderline strike (and who knows with Joe West?). Of course, Dom swings.
  12. The Mets are just a walk, WP, groundball to the right side, and Bohm error away from tying the game!
  13. At least Pete didn't hit another meaningless flyball to the warning track (that everyone thought was out). If the Mets called up Baty and Vientos they couldn't do any worse than these guys. Although:
  14. Nimmo stood there like a statue as he prayed for a walk.
  15. It seems as if Nido is up every inning. Stro was at 91 pitches so why couldn't he have gone one more? Is Luis saving him for the post-season?
  16. Yesterday, 1st inning: bases loaded, no one out--no runs. Today, 4th inning, bases loaded, no one out--no runs. That's really hard to do. What was Stroman afraid of? Hitting into a DP would have scored a run.
  17. It's astonishing how bad Joe West is and how long he's been bad. He should have retired after "The Naked Gun": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IprIO1nly-Yhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IprIO1nly-Y

  19. We've heard about the lack of success w/the bases loaded. The article talks about swinging at the first pitch in general but it seems as if they always "attack" the first pitch with the bases loaded. E.g., Drury on Tuesday (or was it Monday, these games are a blur) was up in the 9th, bases loaded, and swung at the first pitch which was a foot out of the strike zone so he was down 0-1 when he should have been up 1-0. He took a fat pitch for 0-2 and one pitch later weakly grounded out.
  20. Hill? That was OK as a half-measure. I still think that didn't do enough. We'll see.
  21. The hitting is also a problem, obviously a bigger problem--the biggest. They tried to address that w/Baez b/what I'm saying is that you can make multiple moves to help the team and they made one.
  22. Edgy MD wrote: I have no problem with the bullpen. Other than the front office, the manager, the hitting, the defense, the starting pitching, sure, no problem... except Lugo turned one-run deficits into multiple-run deficits twice this week. Familia gave up a run today. Within the last two weeks, Banda (RIPittsburg) and Hartlieb (somewhere) had to pitch the 8th inning and turned a close game into a rout. BP help was definitely needed and still is, unless you really, really trust Familia (I don't), think that this is just a blip for Lugo (let's hope but remember that he was injured and maybe he's hiding something), and think that Drew Smith and Y. Diaz are now shut-down middle-innings guys. I'd have pursued Hudson or Soria, especially b/c the BP is needed for 3 or 4 innings every damn game.
  23. Lefty Specialist wrote: Other teams got valuable bullpen arms at the deadline without giving up too much. This bothers me. Same here. I understand that the Mets didn't have the prospect depth to make more than one high-level deal but Daniel Hudson only cost SD this and the Mets couldn't or didn't want to match: [bLOCKQUOTE]San Diego parts with Thompson, a 2016 third-round draftee. The righty has made his first four big league appearances this season but spent the bulk of the year with Triple-A El Paso. A pure reliever, Thompson has tossed 26 2/3 innings over 23 appearances, working to a 5.74 ERA with slightly lower than average strikeout and walk rates (21.8% and 7.3%, respectively) in that hitter-friendly environment. He's already on the 40-man roster and has a pair of minor league option years remaining beyond the current season. Barley has been in the Padres organization since signing as a member of San Diego's massive 2016-17 international class. At one point, the speedster was a fairly well-regarded prospect, but he's struggled to hit in the low minors. Barley has posted higher than average strikeout rates throughout his professional career, and that's continued this season. The 21-year-old is hitting .240/.333/.388 with a 29.4% strikeout percentage in Low-A. Entering the season, Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs slotted Barley as the #28 talent in the Padres system.[/bLOCKQUOTE] https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/padres-nationals-in-serious-discussions-on-potential-daniel-hudson-trade.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/07/padres-nationals-in-serious-discussions-on-potential-daniel-hudson-trade.html (emphasis added)
  24. Listening on XM but no Howie today. So Wayne + friend, not quite as great. Plus, you know, all the LOBs. The "friend" is Ed Coleman who is so bad at his job that I'm surprised he doesn't work for YES.
