  1. Phillies lose. It's right there, Mets. Go get it.
  2. Ronnie just said that Ollie shags during batting practice. Whatever he does is fine as long as it doesn't hurt his pitching.
  3. Somewhere in the archives of FAFIF, I can't find it, is word that a Greg penned, with Jason writing the introduction, book is in the works.
  4. She declined. I'm hoping for a DC signing party of the FAFIF book next season--I'll ask her to make an appearance.
  5. That's me; honored to be in both Greg's article and in Jason's from Wednesday. BTW, they still haven't fixed the problem with the aisle traffic (and I don't know how they can, other than to stop people from walking down during ABs, like in Philadelphia). I still don't like it but have stopped acting like "a bear." dcbatgirl, the owner of the seats that I share in, agrees and is looking for new seats for next year.
  6. I usually like Verducci but, as MGIM said, his cover story on "The Cathedral" was awful. It should be required reading at journalism school: "read this and learn what not to do." His shot at Nationals Park was cheap (a "cliched mistake") and his shot at Citifield, which obviously isn't even finished yet, is worthless without any context or explanation. What would be "forward-moving": hover boards (like in "Back to the Future") instead of seats?
  7. Today's [u:1d5c5f0865]Washington Post[/u:1d5c5f0865] ("Mets Salvage Split") says that the Nationals are looking at Syracuse: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Principal owner Mark Lerner, President Stan Kasten and Bowden toured the facilities of the Syracuse Chiefs yesterday and discussed the potential relocation of their Class AAA team. Washington will likely know its fate toward the end of the weekend. Syracuse officials tomorrow will give a similar tour to the Florida Marlins, who are also looking to relocate. Washington had been affiliated with Columbus, which yesterday signed a deal with the Indians. The Nationals believe that Syracuse makes sense because the city is along Interstate 81, same as Harrisburg, Pa., the Class AA affiliate. Also, the Chiefs play in the International League, which would required less travel than the Pacific Coast League. Other potential landing spots for a Washington affiliate participate in the PCL.
  8. TheOldMole--YES! Thanks for the honor.
  9. Since it's "Phillies Day", do the students boo the teachers?
  10. Back from Nationals Park, our third game in a row. This one was obviously the most fun. A nice moment: when Santana came to bat in the 2d, the belching doofus behind me said "here's a strikeout" like he knew anything. At two strikes, he said "one more" and then Johan doubled. As I sat down, I said to my son, loudly, "there a strikeout." I'm sure the guy heard me. He only belched for the rest of the night. After the game, Mets fans high fived as we walked up the aisle.
  11. A no for me as well. Did Guiseppe Franco get a "yes" or does he get freebies?
  12. Jerry has ignored the poll results and is starting Argenis Reyes tonight.
  13. Mets fan sitting near me last night--he might have been drunk--yelled "Go back to Quebec."
  14. bugsandcranks.com has this on the schedule: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeah, I know the 2008 season is not over yet (except in places like the Bronx), but Major League Baseball has just released its 2009 schedule, and Id like to make a few general comments, observations, and what the [fs]. * The Yankees are opening their new stadium againstthe [f'in] Cleveland Indians? OK, fine, dont open the House That A-Rod Built against the Red Sox. No big deal. But would it be so hard to open up against one of the other teams from this division? Ya know, the Rays, Os or Blue Jays? No disrespect to Indians fans, but well, we kicked your team out of the American League East several years ago. You dont deserve to open our stadiums. * The Mets are opening their new stadium againstthe [f'in] San Diego Padres? You know whos the National League version of the Cleveland Indians? The San Diego Padres (roughly). I got an idea why dont the Padres and the Indians play each other during these scheduled series, while the Mets and Yankees open their respective ballparks against each other? Again, would it really be that difficult toah, [f] it, Bud Selig is a moron. God forbid you launch billion-dollar stadiums with marquee games between teams with history. What history is there between the Indians and Yankees? Between the Mets and the Padres? The NFL wouldnt have [f'd] this up. After all, whod the Colts open against in their new stadium? Thats right, the Bears. * The Mets dont play the Phillies at all in April, but then face them five times in seven days between May 1-7. Three of the games are in Philly, two are in New York. Now THAT is overkill.
  15. All of these are good--boy, have there been a lot of great moments this season. It would be a shame to have all of these memories superseded by a bad finish. Come on Mets!
  16. The July 6th homerun in the 12th against the Phillies after Billy blew the save in the 9th. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/wrap.jsp?ymd=20080706&content_id=3078793&vkey=wrapup2005&fext=.jsp&team=away&c_id=nym
  17. Suppose Jerry asked you who his starting second baseman should be tonight, Thursday, against Tim Redding (RHP). You have Argenis Reyes, who isn't hitting but is a good fielder and supplies "energy" according to Jerry, or Luis Castillo, who isn't hitting but potentially could because of his track record; however, he has range of one square foot. Some choice, eh?
  18. AZ opens with 18 out of the first 21 at home. That's quite an advantage, isn't it? http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=ari&m=4&y=2009
  19. The Mets were @ Boston in '06 and they will be again next year. I thought that the next round of interleague play was supposed to be in the opposite location from the last round.
  20. Reyes, ss Murphy, lf Wright, 3b Delgado, 1b Beltran, cf Church, rf A. Reyes, 2b Schneider, c Knight, rhp
  21. Adam Rubin has a link to the schedule in Word: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/mets/2008/09/mets-release-preliminary-sked.html
  22. This isn't an original thought, but if it's a "Cathedral", then why is it being torn down?
  23. Ugh. New SI.
  24. As mentioned, I was at last night's game, and--guess what--it sucked! 1-0 means nothing to stand up and go nuts about the whole night. We enjoyed the pre-game march to the bullpen by the relievers (Parnell with the pink backpack)--a Mets fan near me yelled "Don't blow it tonight!" Feliciano turned toward him and gave him a thumbs up. Jason, from FAFIF, came by and that was very nice. Not many people can say that they've sat with both halves of the FAFIF team at Nationals Park. That might be a record! There really isn't much to say about the game--J. Reyes looks awful (everyone is talking about Wright but look at him, too). I'll be back there tonight. Dcbatgirl reports that she is tempted to talk a little bit of trash, but is holding back because everyone has been so welcoming.
