There's a perception that the Wilpons are cheap. I don't buy it--they have the 3d highest payroll in the game--but if you only call up two guys, you feed into that perception. Whatever the reason, it's time for Jesus to be a Met.

Are the Mets going to call up anybody on Tuesday? Buffalo's season ends tomorrow. These players are on the 40-man roster so I'm guessing that they'll be added: Eddie Kunz Andy Green A. Reyes. Arturo Lopez is also on the 40-man but I don't know who he is. Robinson Cancel is in Buffalo and was recently a Met but he was DFA'd so he's not on the 40-man. Neither is Jesus Feliciano and he had a very good season, hitting .311 with 1 HR, 42 RBI, and 13 SB. He was named the team MVP.

Adam Rubin: Manuel also indicated that Gary Sheffield (back spasms) is "pretty close" to being shut down for the season, and that Carlos Delgado's chances of returning this season are "very slim." Me: Way to go Omar. The Giants offered you something but you wanted more. You said that you had an obligation to filed a competitive team so you declined the offer. You end up getting nothing for Sheffield (who cost you nothing, you paid him nothing, and he won't be back next season) and you don't achieve your goal of fielding a "competitive team."

On Monday, the Mets are off. While I'm glad that the players and coaches will enjoy Labor Day as we do, by not working... this is moronic! We're off from work. We want to watch baseball on TV or in person! What kind of dopes give teams a day off on a national holiday? On Tuesday, the SNY announcers will be silent during the sixth inning. Why Tuesday and why the 6th? I don't know but according to Bob Raissman, that's what's going to happen. On Wednesday, Gary gets the day off. Ron and Keith will run the show from the booth. Raissman thinks that these are gimmicks to get viewers during a lousy season.

Welcome Eddie Lora. From mlbtraderumors.com (the system won't let me post a URL): The Red Sox are sending minor league first baseman Eddie Lora to the Mets to complete last month's Billy Wagner trade, according to Joe McDonald of The Providence Journal. The 20-yr old Lora hit .222/.287/.414 in 99 at-bats with Boston's rookie level Gulf Coast League affiliate this year. He was not ranked as one of their top 30 prospects coming into the year according to Baseball America. It's been reported that New York will also receive Triple-A first baseman Chris Carter in the deal, but he'll have to wait until the offseason to officially become part of the deal after the Yankees claimed him off waivers.
