  1. Obviously, pick one team from the AL and one from the NL. This is your head and not your heart.
  2. Obviously, pick one team from the AL and one from the NL. This is your heart and not your head.
  3. I wanted the Nationals to lose but boy do I feel sorry for my Nationals friends today--what a stomach punch. Good highlight package: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_10_12_slnmlb_wasmlb_1&mode=wrap#gid=2012_10_12_slnmlb_wasmlb_1&mode=video and local reaction that the station probably regrets--23 seconds (the CBS station broke into Letterman for fan reaction):
  4. JCL--outstanding. BUCKle In and Let's Go O's!
  5. A. Rodriguez for Murphy + 125 million of A. Rodriguez's 130 million contract until it expires.
  6. A. Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup tonight. And there are good seats available for reasonable prices as MFY fans regard this round as the warm-up act for the Series: Brian Costa ?@BrianCostaWSJ StubHub shows more than 4,100 tickets available for Yanks-Os Game 5, starting at $36.
  7. Gwreck wrote: Top 3 side-winding relief pitchers that Omar Minaya screwed up and let go: 3. Chad Bradford Ok, fair, he was a free agent and wanted lots of dough. But the 2007 Mets really could've used him. Plus, the money saved by not signing Bradford was used to sign...wait for it...Scott Schoeneweis. 2. Joe Smith Traded away for JJ Putz. Just finished his fourth consecutive effective season with Cleveland for $3.475 million. No, that's not the per-year salary; that's the total salary over all 4 seasons. 1. Darren O'Day see above You may be onto something here, Gwreck as Minaya is the GM that demoted R.A. in Spring Training. It appears that he had a bias against non-traditional pitchers.
  8. You already know why the MFYs bench is so deep but Costa explains it again: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444799904578050711563907982.html?mod=WSJ_NY_Sports_LEFTTopStories
  9. Good link, thanks... although the subject heading is redundant.
  10. Q: Why was he put on waivers by the Mets? A: Because Omar Minaya was incompetent.
  11. The Crypt Keeper strikes again: the ALCS starts tomorrow. No day off for the O's or Opponent while the Tigers wait to see if they have to fly to NY for a game tomorrow.
  12. Swan Swan H wrote: Chris Berman is to radio play-by-play what Stephen Hawking is to radio play-by-play. What's pathetic is that ESPN replaced Gary Cohen with Berman.
  13. That too. Craig Calcaterra ?@craigcalcaterra Dusty Baker just managed the Reds out of a possible rally http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/10/11/dusty-baker-just-managed-the-reds-out-of-a-possible-rally/ via @HardballTalk Bay Area Sports Guy ?@BASportsGuy Reds might want to think about hiring a "manager-closer." Let Dusty handle the regular season, then bring in a fresh mind for the playoffs. Chris Carlin ?@ChrisCarlinSNY Dusty might've just ran his team out of the inning. Inexplicable move to send the runners on 3-2 with nobody out.
  14. Down three, you need the two runners on base, whether they are on 1st and 2d or 2d and 3d. Baker tried to have Bruce go from 2d to 3d and he got thrown out. To me, that's over-managing.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The Nationals knew (barring a collapse) that they were likely playoff bound for much of the season. I'm surprised that they didn't choose another way to conserve his innings, like maybe pitching him less frequently for a stretch in the middle of the season. Maybe they could have had him pitch three relief innings once per week in August or something and then work him back into starter mode during September. This. After the all-star break, I was surprised that they didn't push his first start until as late as possible to stretch out his starts. The Nationals have come across as smug and acting smarter than everybody (Rizzo said that we only know "10%" of what he knows about Strasburg). Plus, the other GMs don't like his cozy relationship with Boras-- they hate Boras while Rizzo gets along with him. This doesn't mean they they are wrong or that their critics are wrong. The only thing that's known is that Strasburg was healthy when he was "shut down" and he's not being used in the playoffs while their 5th starter is.
  16. http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/8487066/2012-nlds-jim-joyce-misses-call-1st-base-game-3-st-louis-cardinals-washington-nationals How the hell is this guy still a major league ump? I guess he's going to write a book with Espinosa.
  17. Yes it is in play.
  18. Sometimes I think that the 3B coach isn't necessary. The 3B coach was pumping his arms and Hardy didn't even look.
  19. Another manager is out of a job after a bad season. Meanwhile, TC is planning drills for spring training 2013.
  20. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Gwreck wrote: Wait, why did we let Darren O'Day get away again? Because we needed an extra starter and we-- or rather, a non-false-hustling former member of "we"-- couldn't master basic roster management. Exactly. Pelfrey had to miss one start and Omar didn't want to put him on the DL because he would have miss another so he waived O'Day to call up Nelson Figueroa for a start. And then he waived Figueroa to replace him with Casey Fossum.
  21. I had the pleasure of meeting seawolf17 at that game, July 17. What a great moment that was: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_07_17_nynmlb_wasmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=was#gid=2012_07_17_nynmlb_wasmlb_1&mode=recap&c_id=nym and then Parnell coughed it up and the Mets lost in the 10th.
  22. I want Baltimore and I don't want Washington. Any combination involving those 2 is fine. But the way this season has gone, I'm expecting WSH v MFY.
  23. MFY fan in my office (I'm in DC) is giddy about seeing his team in Baltimore on Sunday and Monday... if the Orioles win tomorrow night.
  24. Just being associated with the Wilpons is bad financially. The good news is that the Mets have another chance to name the park, or the field, for Gary Carter: Digital Domain Park, the spring home of the New York Mets and the regular-season home of the St. Lucie Mets (High Class A; Florida State League), will have a new name after a bankruptcy filing from the naming-rights holder. Digital Domain, a special-effects firm in Port St. Lucie, is canceling its $100,000-per-year naming-rights deal for the ballpark as part of a corporate restructuring in bankruptcy court. The firm is already $50,000 behind in payments -- money that St. Lucie County will probably never see -- since buying rights to the former Tradition Field in 2010. The county hasn't received the paperwork yet, so no word on a replacement for spring training 2013. http://ballparkdigest.com/201210045665/major-league-baseball/news/digital-domain-pulls-out-of-ballpark-naming-deal
  25. There were some good moments in 2012--name one of your favorites. Not a game but a moment in time. E.g, the no-hitter isn't a moment but the feeling you had when the no-hitter ended, and you jumped up and down and dropped your pants, that's a moment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll start: April 26th, Thursday afternoon. Justin Turner walks with the bases loaded off Heath Bell to tie it (a 13 pitch AB), and then we learned how to spell "Nieuwenhuis" who singles in the winning run. Jose Reyes walks off a loser as the Mets sweep the 3 game series and at that moment, we felt the possibility that the season could be special. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_04_26_miamlb_nynmlb_1&mode=wrap&c_id=mlb#gid=2012_04_26_miamlb_nynmlb_1&mode=wrap
