We're thinking about sneaking in one more game while we're there, and Lakeland is just a bit too far out of the way. There is a mall across the street but that's it. You won't want to make your visit to Jupiter, FL an entire day.
  5. Ceetar wrote: I think that Sandy's logic is that if he can get a reliever for below market value now, and that reliever has a successful first half, he can trade the reliever for a prospect to a team that is in contention. The flaws with this: 1) you might get stuck with someone that has a lousy first half or 2) not get the value you think you deserve in return so you've spent $4M on something that you didn't need. Just like he swapped Francisco and Rauch last year. That's the 1st flaw. Each had a bad first half. Ceetar wrote: Because until you spend it's always going to be a punt year. You do what you can. That's true. I wish that Sandy agreed.

  7. As much as I'd like to see BV, or just about any other human being, replace TC, I think that this is simply SNY trying to improve ratings. It's the BV show! It's the Gary, Keith and/or Ron show! Ignore what's in front of you--stay tuned as Guys! will be interviewing some celebrity very soon!
  8. Life on the Marlins: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/sports-buzz/2013/01/more-loria-behavior-criticized-dolphins-heat-canes-chatter.html Their two remaining fans should be upset.
  9. He'll be that much closer to the team if a mid-season change needs to be made.
  10. Valentine, who managed the Mets (1996-2002), would be featured on about 20 games, mostly marquee matchups like the Subway Series. He would be seen on SNYs new pre-pregame show. Valentine would also fill in for Bobby Ojeda, SNYs No. 1 studio analyst, on his off days. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/raissman-mets-tv-place-bobby-v-article-1.1248593#ixzz2J7hUG6Z0
  11. Pathetic. I didn't even know he was with The Post until he pulled off that hatchet job on RA. If he's considered to be the best, that doesn't say much for the rest of them.
  12. Good move, low risk/high reward.
  13. 2 out of 2 lawyers at the CPF concur. Now do it, Bud.
  14. I'm trying to think of the right word for the Nationals and Braves rivalry. Exciting? Given that our team will lose about 26 of 36 games to these two teams this season, it won't be fun. It will make for good baseball but it will be in part at the Mets expense.

  16. Edgy MD wrote: why should that pick be suddenly exposed (say the Mets) because the Pirates through no fault (or grace) of the Mets, got to jump in line? The rule is intended to protect the ten worst teams, so yes the Mets pick should remain protected. The Mets didn't improve because the Pirates couldn't sign their #1 pick and shouldn't be penalized. This is the perfect opportunity for Fred's BFF Bud to interpret the rule "in the best interests of baseball" and keep the pick protected. Also, where's the harm? The Union won't object because it increases competition for a FA? Boras won't object. The only parties that will object are those hoping to get Bourn for even less than the Mets might pay. a Club shall not be required to forfeit a selection in the top ten of the first round of the Rule 4 Draft, and its highest available selection shall be deemed its first selection following the tenth selection of the first round. MLB Basic Agreement, Article XX, B. (4)(c)i., p. 89http://mlb.mlb.com/pa/pdf/cba_english.pdf I think that the in the intent of the rule would be served by adding "as determined by the ten lowest win totals in the preceding season" to the end of this clause.
  17. Scott Hairston to the Cubs. 2 year deal.

  20. In my opinion, Megdal is currently the second best writer there is about the Mets. Many of you will disagree, it's just my opinion.
  21. Anti-Semite Delmon Young: yet another reason to despise the Phillies.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It doesn't sound too horribly overpriced. It's not the kind of thing that I'd personally be interested in, but if I was I'd be willing to pony up $4400, especially since it includes airfare. (I'm curious, does that just mean airfare from the continental U.S.? What if I was a Mets fan living in Japan or Korea, for instance? If that's a fixed worldwide airfare, then international participants can be getting a real bargain!) From the NY area. I flew on my own from Maryland and got a travel credit (they still picked me up at the airport).
  23. Lefty Specialist wrote: I did it in 2002. Most fun you can have with your clothes on. Worth every overpriced penny. Agreed.
  24. $4,395 (same price as in 2009). That includes your flights, ground transportation, room (at double occupancy--you can upgrade), breakfast, lunch, two dinners, two real uniforms and equipment.
  25. I don't know who this guy is but he's providing daily updates from Fantasy Camp: http://www.theplayerspoint.com/THEPLAYERSPOINT/METS_FANTASY_CAMP/METS_FANTASY_CAMP.html Not as good as mine from 2009 but still worthwhile. Terry's there, probably to teach bunting. Or to find an outfielder.
