  1. To you and me, yes. Play 'em all. (It's not like every fan is lucky enough to root for a team which has all of their All-Stars in the starting lineup.) Isn't that why each team is represented? But Selig was looking for a gimmick after the being criticized for the tie.
  2. If the game really "mattered", then it must be moved to Wednesday so that all pitchers can be used. Now, someone that started a game on Sunday can't pitch. If the ASG is so important, then the schedule should be altered to ensure that everyone can participate. Until then, yes, it's just a gimmick devised by FOX and MLB to help Selig save face after the tie game.
  3. Which means that Harvey's next start is on FOX.
  4. I changed the thread title to make it "all things MLB on FOX" related as the Mets have another FOX game this Saturday.
  5. Terry can pitch him next Saturday and keep him on 4-day rest as Thursday is an off-day.
  6. Shaun Marcum, 1 and 9 with a 5.03 ERA, can request his own catcher? Hey Shawn, F OFF. Who the hell is he to request a catcher? He's lucky to be employed in the major leagues.
  7. Twitter says that Ike is being recalled. No corresponding move yet. If he's coming back, he should play but the Mets have a hot hitting 1B at the moment.
  8. Swing the frigging bat. What the hell was he looking for?
  9. The Nationals featured Neil Diamond today during the fourth inning debuting an original, corny as hell, patriotic song.
  10. I have to say something good about the MFYs: per this article, http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/04/arts/music/o-say-can-you-sing-at-the-ballpark-its-a-tough-song.html?ref=sports they limit their Anthem singers to 90 seconds. The Yankees, ever traditionalists, still use the opera star Robert Merrills venerable recording for many games. When the team does invite a singer to perform, it favors hiring Broadway stars with impeccable technique, a marketing strategy that dovetails with the interests of the theater district. Yankees officials insist on a hidebound, 90-second rendition with no accompaniment. It isnt just a random talent show, said Deborah A. Tymon, the Yankees senior vice president for marketing. Of course, they do it because they're pretentious and for the moment, we'll ignore how long it takes for the daily rendering of "God Bless America" but a 90 second limit on the Anthem sounds good to me.
  11. Parra's drag bunt went was too far to Satin's right while Murphy moved in when he saw the bunt but it was bunted so hard that it went past him on the left and the ball ended up in short RF.
  12. The 1964 All-Star game lasted 2:37. Remember that when it's the 8th inning and it's 11 PM.
  13. I guess Terry doesn't mind if his best hitter gets thrown at. However, he doesn't mind if one of his own players gets hit to teach him a lesson.
  14. Does Murphy have a future with the Mets? He's a good hitter and his fielding is good for someone that is still learning the position, but is he trade bait? Wilmer Flores plays 2B and is ready. EY can play 2B. Satin can play 2B.
  15. Are you in the 12% of the USA that will get to see the Mets game on Saturday night? It's a pivotal battle between a fourth place team and a fifth place team so you can understand why it's one of FOX's choices for the game of the week. They think so much of this game that it's only on in four parts of the country. And look at that fantastic announcing crew! A smart network would showcase Puig but they are not. 17. Edgy MD wrote: John Buck, you're realeased. But first, Jrdany has a treat for you. Good point. If JV did that, it would have been seen as an affront to baseball and Terry would have requested that JV get drilled his next time up.

  19. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: The thing is... Davey's done less. That's the point, LWFS. Let the players play. Aardsma gave up a ground ball single and got an out but TC had to make the "by the book" move and then all hell broke loose. He used two pitchers to avoid letting Aardsma face a lefty who wasn't the tying run.
  20. There was a Young for Justin Turner rumor two years ago so I'm not surprised that Sandy got him. I just wish that it wasn't at the cost of a young pitcher.
  21. STFU Bob Costas (and thank you Chipper Jones): http://www.amazinavenue.com/2013/6/16/4436328/bob-costas-mets-celebration-walk-off-video-decline-western-civilization
  22. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Vic Sage wrote: Also the failure to sign Reyes was financial, not part of a rebuild. Again, we could have traded Reyes, as we did Beltran, as a rental since we apparently knew we weren't going to keep him, but we didn't and got nothing for him. so NOT a rebuilding move. The way the Mets handled Reyes contract status during his last season as a Met is still baffling, even now - a year and a half after the fact. In the end, it became clear that the Mets never had a chance to resign Reyes, given their financial constraints. So the only logical explanation for the Mets behavior is that they didn't have the stomach to weather the negative fan reaction that they anticipated would develop after trading Reyes. So they tried instead, to contrive a scenario that was supposed to make it appear that Reyes spurned the Mets offer. It was all so wishy-washy, and typical of this ownership. So they got nothing for one of baseball's most popular players at perhaps, the peak of his career, and didn't save face either. The strategy was ineffective at every measure and almost unanimously criticized. Well said batmagadanleadoff.
  23. Well done, BG. Here's tonight's "NatCast." http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2013/06/06/nationals-vs-mets-weather-forecast-mild-but-a-few-showers-in-area/
  24. I will be there with my younger son and we are sitting in section 116. After our 0 and 6 record in 2012, we'd like to see a win already. And it would mean two series victories this season for the Mets over the locals (for me) which means bragging rights with my Nationals colleagues, including this guy: https://vine.co/v/b3PUPuIeTgi
