Last time out Glavine beat Smoltz for the first time ever and in four starts this season against him. Sunday Roy Oswalt, RHP (14-6, 3.35) - Pedro Martinez, RHP (1-0, 3.60) Oswalt was brilliant in August sporting a 4-0 record with a 1014 ERA in five starts. Pedro is back at home in front of the fans that adore him, could be a great match up. Last time these teams played was in Houston in a pretty good four game series,Mets won two. 17. ] Reds manager Pete Mackanin coached for Montreal while Pedro pitched there and recently related this to the Cincy Post: Quote: Martinez signed with the Red Sox after [1997]. In 1998, the Expos were playing the Giants when a San Francisco jeweler approached Mackanin. At first Mackanin waved him off, saying he didn't need anything, but the jeweler said he had something for Mackanin and the rest of the Expos coaching staff. Martinez had bought Rolex watches for each member of the coaching staff that had been with the team the season before. "I was dumbfounded," Mackanin said. "I asked him, I didn't want to sound greedy, just wondered what it was worth. It was a $5,300 watch. Pretty nice gesture on Pedro's part." While telling the story, Mackanin realized he was wearing that very watch. "It still works," he said. I just read this, cool story.
