  1. I hat interleauge play.
  2. I cancelled my MLB.TV package earlier this week saving me $40 for the rest of the season and making way for NFL Sunday Ticket. To be honest, I only got through about 20 full Mets games this season, but had it on in the background while I did other things. It just hasn't been any fun watching games this season. Or last season. Or the season before.
  3. John Smoltz DFA-ed by the Red Sox.
  4. Per bizofbaseball.com: A player with a no-trade clause who is claimed on Major League waivers must be pulled back if the players no-trade clause allows him to block a deal to the claiming club. However, the player may waive the no-trade clause and join the claiming club. http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=667&Itemid=75
  5. Even with the Yell-O song, John Hughes films were rich with golden nuggets of great music.
  6. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is really an underrated movie. There are parts that are hilarious. All of these movies, save Uncle Buck, are OK in my book and I would probably stop on any of them, save Uncle Buck, if I were flipping on a Saturday afternoon. For voting purposes, I went with Breakfast Club. Also, to add to Edgy's Bueller comment: I get lost before that when somehow they manage to get a Cubs game in on that day off.
  7. The results of this poll seem to suggest that we are fairly confident Tatis and Murphy will not survive the season without sustaining injury.
  8. Andy Pants is back. The Mets have traded minor-league infielder Greg Veloz to the Nationals for infielder Anderson Hernandez. I'm underwhelmed.
  9. I was thinking the same thing today. All things being considered (Beltran and Francouer), I would have no problem with him in left next season if FMart is injured or not ready.
  10. I like these gay dames lately where so many runs are scored early that I only have to look in from time to time and not hang on every pitch. I'm looking at you, Figgy.

After all they are the Amazin Mets Edgy DC Aug 06 2009 08:06 AM Well, that lousy loss the night before last burns the Mets badly as their net post-season odds dip toward the 1% mark. Milwaukee moves up a bit, so the Mets have to eye Houston first, but you know, the Fish are slipping also. San Fran re-takes the top wildcard slot, but Baseball Prospectus still is totally not impressed. They love the Rocks. San Diego joins the Nats among teams not shouldered with the burden of a visible post-season possiblity. Mercy. Not so resuscitated is Washington, who despite winning a fuky eight straight, still aren't showing any numbers but goose eggs, but they've closed their wild card gap from 199 net games to 173. Another seven months at this pace and who knows? Normally I'd cheer the Nats onward, reasoning that any success by a team behind the Mets in the standings helps the Mets pick off opponents, but this week stank so solidly that I view Washington's success as a threat by them to somehow catch the Mets in the standings. That just depressed the hell out of me. duan Aug 11 2009 05:34 AM i don't know every time they look like they *just might* put something together that'd mean they'd claw their way TOWARDS being at least able to duke it out in September they lose two straight and fall back off. I'm still cool with saying if they go 13-6 or something in the remaining August games they'll be well in it, but there's only so many times they can fail to actually have one of those runs and still be able to put enough of them together. We've really missed a healthy John Maine. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 11 2009 12:06 PM Re: i don't know ="duan":exl5k9ys]We've really missed a healthy John Maine.[/quote:exl5k9ys] Since mid-2007. I sorta feel if we just had one more stable starter we'd be close to .500 now and if the batters came back could make a go of it.
  12. I'm hoping Scott can at least bring some respectability back to the franchise, which has been lacking since the second one. Weaver doesn't seem to be involved, so the story has the chance to at least be an original look at the aliens. Still, not expecting too much.

The deal is believed to include right-hander Justin Masterson and another pitcher. MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo says the other player involved is Nick Hagadone. Coveted Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz is not included in the deal, SI.com has learned. It's not going to be hard-throwing Daniel Bard because Cleveland only wants starters. The switch-hitting Martinez made his third All-Star team this season and is hitting .284 with 15 home runs, 67 RBIs and 56 runs in 99 games. Martinez, 30, is a career .297 hitter. This deal comes two days after the Indians traded reigning Cy Young winner Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco to the Phillies for four prospects. Edgy DC Jul 31 2009 01:08 PM Big Mets fan: LaRoche on Mets' Beltran: 'Zero class' Saturday, June 06, 2009 By Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette HOUSTON -- Adam LaRoche responded to New York Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran's comments Thursday that he was "embarrassed" at being swept in three games by the Pirates. "I think it shows zero class and zero professionalism," the Pirates' first baseman said yesterday at Minute Maid Park. "When somebody says that, they know what they're saying, and they know it's going to get out. He knows we're not going to be real happy about it. If you go and say that to your buddies, it's one thing. If you go to the media and make that public for us to hear? Yeah, that's no class." LaRoche paused. "You know, if we're as bad as he says we are and we swept them, then what's that make them?" LaRoche, the players and coaching staff read about the remark on PDAs just before their flight took off Thursday night from Pittsburgh for Houston, and it apparently was a hot topic. Beltran's comment Thursday: "The reality of this is coming here to Pittsburgh and getting swept, me, I feel embarrassed. I mean, we have to take this personally. It can't happen. It can't happen, us being able to come here and lose three games just like that. Three games to this team. I know they're a big-league ball club, but we're better than them." Nymr83 Jul 31 2009 01:56 PM Kotchman is a gap hitter with a mediocre OBP, I wouldn't really want him. his career ops+ is 98, its 105 the last 3 years, the mets need to find a way to do better than that at first base. 16. Hammel getting hammered. Every Met in the lineup save Wright and Santana has a hit through 1 and a third.
  17. It's a hit parade! Berroa says "I can play 2" with a double.
  18. I'd listen, but I consider Santana one of the 4 or 5 core members of the team. And I don't think we're that far away from being able to compete during his prime years. I would want MUCH more than this 2nd place team would be offering for Halladay.
  19. I have to say... I DO NOT like the "Mets" on the road jerseys.
  20. hustle - pete rose inside - roger clemens square - charlie kerfeld macho - steve garvey lumber - manny ramirez mustache - keith hernandez
  21. I think it's an acurate article though. I love the booth. They are a great team that is informative, funny and honest.
  22. Jeter building Tampa's biggest mansion Rising like an aircraft carrier under construction, the future home of New York Yankees baseball star Derek Jeter is taking shape on Davis Islands. Designed with a whopping 30,875 square feet of space, the seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom waterfront home dwarfs nearby mansions and could end up the largest home in Hillsborough County. - Tampa Tribune http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/110511-jeter-building-tampas-biggest-mansion?cnn=yes Hopefully, it's a hurricane magnet.
  23. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"]It occurs to me that the article might not do the greatest job of explaining their appeal to the non-initiates. From my Chicagoan friend Dave: ]Wait. Just so I have this right, the Mets have the best broadcast team because Keith Hernandez doesn't know how the equipment in the booth works and would rather talk about wine than baseball; because Gary Cohen calls all homers in the same way; because Ron Darling brings the unique ability to talk about things that happened in the past; and because collectively they don't know what they're going to talk about going into a game? Got it. Steve Stone not withstanding, Chicago has nothing to offer as far as baseball broadcasters go.
  24. Schedule until we see PHI again on 8/21: 4 @ ATL (43-45) 3 @ WAS (26-61) 3 @ HOU (44-44) 4 vs COL (47-41) 4 vs ARI (38-51) 2 vs STL (49-42) 4 @ SD (36-52) 3 @ ARI (38-51) 4 vs SF (49-39) 3 vs ATL (43-45) That's 14 games vs. teams with worse records than the Mets plus 7 games vs. Atlanta who have as many losses as the Mets do. All of the games against teams with a record above .500 are at home. Philly's schedule isn't much harder, but they do have 13 games against the Marlins and Cubs in addition to seeing the Giants and Rockies like we do. Treading water will still be difficult with the amount of bodies missing, but the schedule looks about as favorable as it can get over the next 34 games. If the Mets manage to stay within 6 or 7 games by the time they face Philly next, then I can get into having faith that they can make things interesting. That should also be about the time that we should have some of these injured players back and hopefully producing. Beating the snot out of Atlanta would also be a priority...starting tonight!
