  1. And a little love for 7th pick Kevin Smith. Another big human being (6'5", 200 pounds) he was apparently the Georgia opening day starter, got his tits lit, was eventually moved to the pen and became a lights out closer. If he were right handed, I'd want to trade Jay Bruce for him.

Born with 2 left thumbs (the "extra" one was hacked off when he was a kid) and he looks like the product of a mens room romance between Rollie Fingers and the Reds mascot. [tweet] [/tweet]
  3. Mets draft 6'7" 230 lb monster righty Tylor Megill out of the U of Arizona. Here he is throwing baseballs to the soundtrack of sugary pop music. [youtube:2k91cvgb]eQbWw5rt_rM[/youtube:2k91cvgb]

Curious if we target Jay this round to compliment Silent Bob.
  5. A little bit on Riley ---> http://www.goupstate.com/news/20180601/clemson-closer-knows-no-fear

So we are not about to actually make any selections ourselves except to pick out cool sounding names. And you can all but guarantee there will be some Cody Bellinger that emerges that your team passed on where you can say "We let Bellinger go and selected Joe Swinganmiss? How stupid!" I obviously agree, but the crapshooting becomes infinitely crapshootier in the later rounds. The top half of the first round shouldn't be too much dart-throwing in 2018.
  7. he's a switch thrower! throws lefty as an outfielder and righty as an infielder!
  8. Mets just went now. Looks like Carlos Cortes, 20-year old second baseman out of South Carolina.
  9. I wonder why MLB's draft prognostication is still such a crapshoot? Back in the day when you could see a guy once or twice in person and there was no video, sure. But there's so much info on all the players now and hours of film. Looking at more recent drafts, there seem to be way more major leaguers in the top of the draft. I think as a sport, they're dialing it in pretty well. Still odd to me that a couple of blue chippers that seemingly everybody loves would drop ~15 spots in the first round. I know the NBA is different, but no way Luca Doncic will fall 15 spots.

Yeah, I feel like that was different in previous years. Lots less spent on draft day this year. My team is a disaster. I can't get any traction at all. Is your team a disaster? Are you having trouble gaining any traction?? Maybe you need slugging first baseman CHRIS DAVIS in your lineup! That's right, Chris Davis is available for the right price! Inquire with the Pawnee Drunken Savages right away! DO NOT DELAY! But wait, there's more!!! If you act now, the Pawnee Drunken Savages with throw in AT NO EXTRA COST, one-time SUPERSTAR right-hander Danny Salazar! WOW-o-WEEE!!!!

  12. The MLB draft is funny. That Libertore kid was the 4th rated kid by MLB and he went 16th. Hot shot #2 rated Brady Singer went #18 to the Royals. I know the slot $$ plays into it (which is stupid anyway) but this kinda shit would never go down in the NBA. Maybe baseball players are still tougher to project than other sports. Who knows.
  13. Monk, you are officially dispatched to Waukesha. Save your receipts.
  14. Those sonsabitches in Cincy grabbed my India. Mets on the clock. WHAT NOW
  15. Oregon State shorty Madrigal goes 5th to the ChiSox. Reds on deck. Mets in the hole.
  16. Phillies get 3B Alec Bohm. I think that's Vic's dreamboat? I hope he's a turd.
  17. As expected, Mize goes first to Detroit. Mets choose in 5 picks.
  18. Draft coverage starts in 15 min (6pm Eastern) but first pick isn't for another hour after that, so it will prob be an hour and a half before we hop on the Darjeeling Limited and book our ticket to India.
  19. Vic Sage wrote: I recommend he stop having plantar fasciitis. It hurts like a motherfucker. This, too. And the back strain. Though he only missed like a half a game due to the back, I wonder if something's hurting him.
  20. Centerfield wrote: I mean, he's gotta bunt right? These are not just shifts, they are ridiculous shifts that he is facing. I feel like eventually someone's going to start bunting against shifts all the time and end up with a .600 OBP. Then they'll stop shifting on him. Then everyone else will do it. Then shifts will go away. Then you'll tell your grandkids about that period of time in the 20-teens when batters rolled ball after ball into the shift and they'll say "Grandpa, were people really stupid then?" before teleporting away and posting a holographic replay of the conversation on their current form of social media. Yeah I think he does need to bunt. Regardless of what kind of slump he's in, the team is sucking and could absolutely use some base runners. The coaches in the NBA stop doing the Hack-a-Shaq thing after the guy they keep fouling makes a couple free throws. Bunt a couple times, see what they do.
  21. A nice primer on barrels for anyone interested ---> https://www.mlb.com/news/new-statcast-metric-barrels-has-best-hit-balls/c-201699298
  22. I would recommend to Jay Bruce that from now on he should hit balls better and more often. You're welcome, Jay. BREAKING: ABNS named New York Mets assistant batting coach. In all honesty, I wonder if Bruce is the kind of guy who just got old quick. I mean, sometimes guys are done by their early 30s. It happens. Look at his similar batters on B-R (taking Reggie out of the equation as an outlier): Tom Brunansky - out of baseball at 33 Darryl Strawberry - didn't have a real, full, productive season after 29 Dean Palmer - last productive season was at age 31 Roger Maris - last productive season was at age 31, then lingered for two more seasons and was gone at 33 Dale Murphy - was on a HOF track until age 31 I know it's a different time, and I know I'm cherry picking a bit here. But still. Maybe he is getting old fast. I love the StatCast stuff and would be more worried if his average exit velocity was lower, but I thought his whole deal last season was that he got his fly ball swing dialed in? Odd to see him hitting so fewer fly balls and I think that hard hit % is worrisome. #Pray4Jay
  23. Centerfield wrote: Wait, am I reading your post right? He's hitting more line drives? Cuz I don't watch all the games, but I think I've seen him hit like two. Yes. Almost 5% more line drives than last year. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9892&position=OF#battedball
  24. The purpose of this post will be to test they hypothesis that "Jay Bruce Sucks". He could certainly start bunting against the shift, which would help with his BA and OBP some, and maybe the defenses would stop shifting on him as often and once in a while he could hit without 7 defenders on the right side. That seems a very unlikely outcome for him, though. Just because, I don't know why. #Science Digging deeper, StatCast data shows that his average exit velocity is actually up this year from 88.6 to 88.8 MPH (Great Scott!). Sadly, that's where the good news ends. Though his EV is about the same, he is not hitting balls hard as often, as his hard percentage is down bigly from 39.1 to 36.8%. He is also barreling far fewer balls, his rate of 6.9% is down from 10.7% a year ago. So StatCast does seem to back the hypothesis that "Jay Bruce Sucks" and using this data, I would recommend to Jay Bruce that from now on he should hit balls better and more often. You're welcome, Jay. As I prepared to look at his batted ball stats, I thought for sure his ground ball percentage would have increased, but that's not the case, it's actually down slightly from 32.5 to 31.9%. It's his line drive percentage that's lept from 20.8 to 25.7% meaning his fly ball percentage (the types of balls Jay Bruce should be hitting to avoid all this theorized sucking) has dropped fairly substantially from 46.7 a year ago to 42.4%. His BABIP is a low (but not obscenely low) .268, so we can assume a few more of those extra line drives should drop for hits going forward, but that's all this crystal ball sees. Using his batted ball data, I would recommend to Jay Bruce that going forward he hit more fly balls that go over the fence. In conclusion, Jay Bruce does, in fact, suck and will continue to suck for all eternity.
  25. Benjamin Grimm wrote: He also has a great name. I wonder what its origin is? He's from Florida, so I'm hoping his ancestors were lost spice traders. I'm imagining his great great great great (great) grandad was called Gianni, but everyone kept giving him shit for not making it to India, his true destination. "Hey, you clay-brained strumpet, aren't you supposed to be in India right now instead of this seaport named after Saint Lucie? Hardy har-har, I say!" And when another Gianni eventually showed up to Seaport Saint Lucie, they simply started calling this one Gianni India. THE END Draft Gianathan India!
