  1. This one's a doozy, too
  2. Barring a creative trade, LaRoche is probably the best option for 2010. Wouldn't wanna lay out 3 years to the dude or anything, though. Would be just fine with Delgado back at a 1-year, low base thing and hope for the best. Agreed that Murph will get his AB's somewhere over the year, maybe even 1B. After that, Garko's attractive as a platoon. Hank Blalock suxxxxxxxx.
  3. Exploding junk!
  4. I voted the Piazza game. Mets and Braves, sadness and happiness, crying and cheering. Not a game that meant anything, but a game that meant a lot. Unforgettable.
  5. A bunch of us here loved the book and it stars MLBS Viggo Mortenson as 'dad' and Charleze Theron as 'mama'. Was gonna pull the trigger on the late-late showing the other night, but fell asleep. Anyone had a look yet? Looks like from the trailer, they sort of defined the cataclysmic event, which is something I liked that they didn't do in the book. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbLgszfXTAY
  6. Just loaded this thing on my Mac and figuring it out now. I'm managing a single A Padres affiliate. Think i did something wrong.
  7. Me & the chick saw it the other night. Don't think I'll be giving too much away here when I tell you to skip it if you're looking for a pick-me-up feel-good flick. Pretty awesome performances all around, though.
  8. metirish wrote: Rafael Soriano to the Rays , Rich Harden to the Rangers for $7.5M Kevin Millwood to the Orioles for Chris Ray. Would've happily paid that moolah to roll the dice on Harden.
  9. I'd say all of those were a factor, including crappy team, and with new stadium fever less of a thing this year, you could definitely see a few more empties this season. Did the Mets raise, lower, or keep prices the same for 2010? Didn't they lower the super-expensive front row-type seats during the season last year?
  10. I know. The Mets have totally never outbid anyone on some expensive player. Ever. Never.
  11. Was hoping that pic above maybe wasn't the real uni, since the Mets hadn't released a pic yet, but Bart from the Post says it's so. http://twitpic.com/qrt9o Lame attempt, Mets.
  12. I'm trying to see how those differ so greatly from last year's pinstripes. I know they say the color is "natural", but that pic makes it look nothing close to the beautiful cream-colored tops the 69'ers wore. Disappointed as of now.
  13. Leiter, you've got every right to kvetch (never used that word before). But at some point "You screwed that up?" should really become "OK, good job, Mets" if they really did address stuff that peeps were upset over. And that's not directed at you I don't think, but more to the "too little, too late" comment by batmags and the kind of unforgiving tone Lukas took. I mean, I don't know if the Indians fucked up the history of the Indians exhibit when they opened Jacobs field, or the Cardinals didn't build a memorial to Jack Clark when they opened new Busch. I don't follow those teams. While it's fun and cool for some to beat the crap out management, I think they're on the right path here is all.
  14. Yeah, I don't know that loving the Mets should be a requirement to owning the Mets, and I don't much care about that angle anyway. They built a pretty new house, but left a lot of the meaningful stuff from the old house in storage. People bitched and the Mets didn't have to, but they listened, and responded in a pretty solid way, as far as I see. A lot of people get off on beating the Mets down for shit they mess up on, but they're doing a decent job of correcting some mistakes here.
  15. 1-Lincecum 2-Wainwright 3-Carpenter IP gives an edge to 1 & 2 over Carp.
  16. That was a dark, kinda fucked up movie. I'm supposing his parents divorce is what made the kid so angry, but he was scary angry, so I wondered if there was more there. The monsters, how they each seemed to represent a little of Max, was really well done.
  17. Quality starts?! In my day, it was wins and losses, not these new-fangled, algebra problems dressed up as baseball statistics.
  18. I didn't see how anyone's party affiliation or which way they voted had anything to do with how stupid this was. It seemed to me bullshit way before it got to that.
  19. Just saw this on FB and thought it was great. Original audio by the late Dock Ellis with some clever, new animation to illustrate the story.
  20. Ianetta's a good plan. I got a plan B, though. The Indians have some hot-shot, 23-year old named Carlos Santana (no, really) who was AA Eastern League MVP in '09, and A California League MVP in '09. Kelly Shoppach could be had, sez me. So-so last year, but really good 2 years ago and will be just 30 this year.
  21. I don't know who my guy is, but I'd look to add 2 very good starting pitchers via trade or FA. No team's gonna get to the playoffs without depth, but with the modern playoff sked, it's seems to really really benefit a team to have a top-heavy starting rotation. Girardi would've gotten skewered for going with a 3-man rotation if it backfired, but that took some balls to do it and it paid off. I'd start by looking into Lackey and call Detroit about Edwin Jackson. I'd love to see them think about Rich Harden as an extra guy who can give 20-something starts, provide depth and occasional awesomeness, but it not relied for a full season. Oh, and hitters, too.
