  1. All of a sudden, I find myself effin sick of all of the Mejia talk. Ninety eight percent of all pitchers hyped as much as Mejia don't amount to a hill of beans anyway, either because they don't develop the goods or because they sustain a career impacting injury early in their careers. And those injuries aren't necessarily the fault of their employer; baseball is a risky business and pitching is a dangerous undertaking. Today, my feeling is that if the Mariners mainly want Mejia for Lee, let's make the deal. It's not as if Mejia struck out 300 batters in less than 200 innings or something. Floyd Youmans was gonna win multiple Cy Youngs. Dave West was a perennial all-star. Juan Berenguer threw harder than Ryan. And Generation K was Koufax and Drysdale plus one more.
  2. H.T.M.L. is such a drag: So many keys to clicker. Instead I frame it, Then I snip And zip it into Flickr. The Mets' standing in the standings: Division Wild Card
  3. Wright and Gonzalez are almost neck and neck:
  4. Lastings Milledge (1) and Melky Cabrera (2) are the only NL everyday left-fielders with less home runs than Bay.
  5. Jason Bay is middle of the pack among 2010 starting left fielders:

Why yes it is now that you mention it and thanks for reminding me and so where's my cake I'm gonna have my cake and eat it 'cause I only said it to get some cake. Dastardly! So what do you do with all those cakes after you're done photographing 'em?
  8. I was looking at K/9 inn. rates for Mets starting pitchers (Met careers only). Gooden's Met career rate is 7.78. John Maine's is 7.75. If Maine had two more K's, his K/9 rate would exceed Doc's.

I take that to mean how much they want to pay a guy and/or how much they'd be willing to give up to get a guy. Well .... ya get what ya pay for.

  13. David Wright shaves 24 points off of Gonzalez's BA lead, FWIW
  14. I'm still undecided as to whether I'd be willing to part with Pagan and Mejia, but I disagree with those that would resist acquiring Lee on grounds that the Mets rotation is fine as it is. You can never get enough top of the rotation pitching. I don't know if it applies here, but a baseball peeve of mine is hearing a team say they're looking for a number five pitcher, or a number four pitcher. What the hell does that mean? If it applies to the Mets, does it mean that they're looking for someone who's better than Ollie and Maine, but who shouldn't be better than Dickey because to be better than Dickey would break the deal? Always get the best pitcher out there (at the right price, of course).
  15. I suppose she wasn't sorry to miss me.
  16. I don't have an opinion on this proposed and rumored trade yet, but it just occurred to me that Floyd Youmans was as highly touted, if not more so, than Mejia currently is. Also, SNY is now clarifying that it is the Mariners and not the Mets that have proposed the Pagan/Mejia for Lee deal.
  17. SNY reports that the Mets and Twins are the front-runners to obtain Cliff Lee. The rumor is that the Mets will send Pagan and Mejia to obtain the lefty.
