I believe that in addition to Heise, Schneck and Gosger, there are also three Mets from the post 1980 multi-baseball card company era that never appeared on a Topps card as a Met despite playing for the team in three separate seasons. I say "I believe" because I'm kinda sure about the three post 1980 Mets but not 100% certain -- as I am of Heise, Schneck and Gosger. Because who the hell can completely keep track of these things post 1980? I can't. Anyway, who are the post-1980 three? My hunch is that this branch of the trivia question won't generate as much interest, mainly because of the unmanageably large number of cards produced post 1980. The three post 1980 Mets who played for the Mets in three different seasons without ever appearing on a Topps card as a Met are, (I believe): Mike Howard, Jorge Velandia and Mike DiFelice.
  3. You just can't win with this bastard Jeter. If he played for another team, as soon as the Yankees failed to win a WS, the press hacks would attribute that to Jeter's absence.
  4. Once the 2010 season was lost, I might've messed with my squad, (if it was me in charge) by asking Francoeur to hit like Castillo, while secretly demanding from Castillo that he hit like Francoeur. But eventually I woulda figured it out for myself that the best strategy would be to ask everybody to hit like Ted Williams.

David Wright cards get boring and lose their effect after about the 100th Wright card for the same season. My favorite sets are the largest ones, that include the largest number of players. I'd rather see one Frank Catalanotto Met card before I see three Johans.

Does Jeter kickback a portion of his salary to Klapisch, et. al.? I liked you more when you picked on edgy I'm not picking on you. I'm picking on Klapisch. And Lupica. I'm on your side, man. Didn't you read my post to you in the iPod thread?
  8. You're proposing that they shoulda asked Francouer to hit like Castillo?

  10. Twenty-one years after the Polo Grounds last hosted a baseball game, Davey Johnson (1984) became the first Mets manager never to have appeared in the Polo Grounds as a major leaguer. But including interim managers, Salty Parker never appeared in the Polo Grounds, either. Salty's ML playing career consisted of one month in the AL with the Detroit Tigers (1936). He began his coaching career with the Giants in San Francisco during the precise period when the Polo Grounds was tenantless (1958-61), and in 1962, coached in the AL (Cleveland Indians). Salty was out of the majors during the Polo Grounds' last season, 1963.

  12. Give up? I'll post the third Met sometime before this evening.

  18. Topps Mets trivia question: During the period 1962-1980, when Topps was the only company producing large baseball sets, three players appeared in games as a Met in three separate seasons, yet never appeared on a Topps card as a Met. Who are they? (Wise-ass preemptive strike --- these three Mets might have appeared in a Mets team picture card. I really don't know. But if so, those appearances don't count).
  19. Altamont is the scapegoat for everything.
  20. I'll ask him what he thinks about the Irish Bailout (or expensive loan), everyone else in the world has had their say to why not adam. DePodesta is the man for the numbers Hey batmag , hang around , this is shaping up to be a good chat..... I gotta split. Ask Adam what he thinks of that Words of Wisdom baseball card where Willie Randolph channels Casey: The Nutty Professor as the Ol' Perfesser.
  21. So whad'rya gonna ask Adam about the coaching staff?
  22. So what are you gonna ask Adam?
  23. What questions? What are we supposed to be asking Adam Rubin? If he paints his toenails? How many Home Runs will Jason Bay hit next season? Who will replace Jerry Manuel? Whether Adam prefers chocolate over vanilla? Some other flavor? I don't get this.

Frayed Knot wrote: I still think Jeter winds up in the Bronx and probably gets more than the 3x$15 that's being floated about (no formal offer made so far apparently) but it's going to be interesting to see how willing to dig their heels in each side is going to get. I'd bet anything that Jeter signs for more than the 3x$15M currently on the table. But that's only because that's how negotiations typically are: the player initially demands more than he wants and the team's first offer is for less than it's willing to pay.
