Your intervention and defense was refreshing. And unusual. Usually, I'm surrounded by Kitty Genovese's neighbors. And I'm Kitty. Meow.

But might as well examine the year old posts now that he's forced us to look. According to him, we shouldn't discuss Bauer because he's never gonna be a Met. By that ridiculous logic, we shouldn't ever discuss Shohei Ohtani either. Or Carl Erskine.

  4. The Mets entered today just a half game out of the money (playoffs). What a shitshow.
  5. Woman who accused Trevor Bauer of sexual assault charged with fraud https://theathletic.com/5421587/2024/04/17/trevor-bauer-accuser-fraud-charge/https://theathletic.com/5421587/2024/04/17/trevor-bauer-accuser-fraud-charge/ As much as I was and still am repulsed by Bauer's S/M inclinations, I defended him vehemently from the very beginning of his scandals. It was immediately obvious to me that the accusations leveled against him were as flimsy as could be and so illogical, so factually inconsistent, that in the end, they had to collapse like a house of cards. It was plain as day that Bauer's accusers were even bigger scumbags than he was. I remember one particular ninny getting so hysterically worked up over those bullshit charges that he made up nonsense about the MLB rules stating that Bauer wouldn't even be allowed to defend himself by claiming consensual contact and sex. Whatever. Also, nobody ever bothered to note that the women on the receiving end of Bauer's consensual conduct (the "M" side of S/M) are just as fucked up, if not more so, than Bauer.
  6. Could be. In 1985, Gooden had his season for the history books. Keith was still prime Keith. Carter had his best Mets season. And Strawberry, rate-wise, had the best season of his entire baseball career. The Cards were also terrific. And deep. But they were also Jack Clark and seven singles hitters. But you can't make anything meaningful out of those standings results. The Mets finished three games behind the Cards in the standings. That difference can easily be explained by simple randomness and luck, especially over 162 games and 18 head-to-head games. The Mets would've had to flip just two head-to-head losses to win the division. Also, that season, the Cards beat the Mets by just one run five times. And factor in that there's way more luck in baseball than in any other sport. Personally, I always thought that the difference between two baseball teams that finished 10 games apart in the standings is tiny. That's why today's game, with 12 playoff teams, is a stupid shitshow.
  7. Sandy Koufax is now the last living member of the WS champion 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. 1955 was Koufax's rookie season.

Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. If the memorial patch is supposed to be a successor to memorial black armbands — and I think it's pretty clear that it is — those have been traditionally worn on the left sleeve, so yeah, it's extra crass to have the memorial patch displaced by the sponsor patch. Prior to the sponsor patch, Mets memorial patches were always worn on the right sleeve. Since 1966, the left sleeve was always reserved for the Mets Skyline logo patch, with the exception of the 1969 regular season and playoffs - when the Mets wore the MLB centennial patch on the left sleeve, but no Skyline patch. The skyline patch was returned to the left sleeve for the '69 WS, with the centennial patch moved to the right sleeve. Also, the Mets wore a stylized skyline patch in 1986 to celebrate their 25th anniversary. The current Mets uniform is not so uniform. The NY Presbyterian sponsor patch is worn on both the left and right sleeves, depending on whether the pitcher throws lefty or righty or whether the position player bats righty or lefty. This is to maximize the visibility of the sponsor patch on TV broadcasts. And if the Mets now wear their sponsor patch on either sleeve, then the same goes for their Skyline logo patch. sponsor patch on left sleeve [FIMG=666]https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/r/2024/02/13/360299a8-be8d-4edf-8033-03ef82951811/thumbnail/1200x675/5a7e380948d5c38971e72314949eafc6/pete-alonso-mets-white-g.jpg [/FIMG] sponsor patch on right sleeve [FIMG=666]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/ar_16:9,g_auto,q_auto:good,w_1536,c_fill,f_jpg/mlb/kh9sjcyvy4yl9wazazq7[/FIMG]

  10. It's not so arbitrary if you wanna make a point about the disastrous Wilpon ownership era. Plus, you can go all the way back to 1962 when the Mets were born, and the Pirates come out ahead. even though they've been out of the NL East for more than 30 years. Also, two first place finishes in 35 years is an enormous Mets embarrassment all on its own, even without the comparison to the Pirates.
  11. Ah yes. The Pittsburgh Pirates. Perhaps the saddest franchise in all of baseball and the most financially strapped. But the Mets have just two NL East first place finishes in the last 35 years. That's mostly, really all of it, on 'eff n jeff. The Pirates, on the other hand, won the NL East three times over the last 35 years, once more than the Mets. Even though the Pirates haven't played in the NL East since 1993 -- 31 years ago. In other words, the sad sack Pirates spotted the Mets 31 years, and they'e still ahead of the Mets in NL East titles. There are surely forum members or at least lurkers, who weren't even alive when the Pirates were a member of the NL East.

If I was a Met, I'd wear an old Mets '65 jersey with the World's Fair patch. Or a Mercury Mets shirt, depending on how rebellious I was feeling.
  13. Nothing new to add here --- just chiming in. But this year's unis are disgusting. It's not just the microscopically tiny NOB nameplates that look so disproportionately out of scale next to the much larger uni numbers. The front of the jersey wordmark, especially on the Mets road unis, and the front numbers also look smaller and thinner. WTF? Who the hell thought this look would be aesthetically pleasing? Then there's the Bud Harrelson memorial patch, which is crammed in with the skyline logo patch so that the two patches are practically touching each other, they're so close to each other, because the best sleeve real estate is now reserved for .... wait for it ... Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Because Steve Cohen needs more money and apparently, he has no qualms about fucking up the uniforms to get it. Wondering where they're gonna put the Jerry Grote memorial patch? There's some space on the players' butts, last I looked.

  15. I had to reverse engineer your post to figure out how you found that thread. You went into the UMDB to find it, it seems. No, I clicked: > Forum Archives > Master Index of Archived Threads > The Baseball Forum And typed: > Ctrl F (Windows 'Find' Shortcut) > "Ordoñez" Thanks for finding the Grote Thread. Fun mammaries. Where is "Forum Archives"? I see several specialized archives, but no Forum Archives.
  16. This? Thanks for finding the Grote Thread. Fun mammaries.
  17. You most noticed Grote's presence by his absence, though you always noticed https://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2024/04/08/the-catcher-we-counted-on/his presence. I also remember the Grote family's commercials for Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard. Grote's defense was Cooperstown Hall of Fame caliber. They're dropping like flies. Cleon Jones is now the only surviving every-day position player from the Mets championship '69 squad. The Faith and Fear in Flushing blog wrote: I have a new favorite Jerry Grote stat.... The legend of the 1973 Mets centers on their pedestrian regular-season record, inevitably processed as the best of a so-so assortment of contenders, implying they were some kind of fluke. Yes, they went 82-79.... When Jerry Grote was in the starting lineup for the 1973 New York Mets, the record of the 1973 New York Mets was 47-29, the kind of pace that captures pennants. Jerry Grote made his pitchers better and made his team better. Yes indeed! I worked out that discovery and the supporting numbers years ago on this forum in a post and some threads that began over another "disagreement" with kcmets that started when he tried to stick it to me over some negative stuff I had to say about Rey Fraudonez. The thing morphed into posts about Grote and Carter. I'd find the post(s) if I could but I can't because after almost 20 years here, I still have no fucking idea as to how to find old posts. That's probably a little bit on me and a lot to do with the historically useless forum search engines. It's a shame that the Mets didn't do anything last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that Ya Gotta Believe pennant-winning '73 squad.

  25. Did Hodges make it under the wire for this question? Same can be said for Joe Torre when it comes to how far back over there these questions are from! Richie Ashburn Who cares? Hodges and Torre are correct answers whether "tbeAmazingMet" knew it at the time or didn't when he wrote that question. Stengel, Gil, Torre, Snider and Piazza.
