  3. Who are the only major leaguers to appear in at least 250 games for both the Mets and the Padres?
  4. I was going for pitchers featured exclusively on the cover. I should've phrased better. Besides, Koosman should be in Torres's seat. Seaver's a stretch. If he's in, then it's still theoretically possible for Johan to one day make this list. And if Seaver's in, so's Coney.
  5. All were featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in their pre-Mets days.

Is it something accomplished as a Met, or is the fact that they were Mets irrelevant except to the point of grouping them for this trivia? It's what they did before playing for the Mets. That's why Johan can no longer do it.
  8. I'll try and post the answer in the next hour or so.
  9. Ceetar wrote: you say Santana didn't accomplish it. could he? Sounds like you're asking for a hint. Your wish is my command. It's now mathematically, scientifically and logically impossible for Johan to accomplish what Jones, Spahn, et. al. once did. But Santana could have, at one point in his career.
  10. They'd probably hold an Olympian Derek Jeter look-a-like contest, too. And then let Jeter himself compete. So he can win the Gold medal.
  11. The answer to this question is not so obvious. I'm just sayin'.

  13. And seven WS games doesn't determine anything either, other than providing fans with a spectacle of pageantry and closure to the season, as far as I'm concerned. Prior to the Wild Card era, though, the system was designed to maintain some reasonable integrity by virtually ensuring that the qualifying teams would usually be among the very best. That's nothing like a tournament between several dozen teams playing no more than ten or so games, if that many.
  14. Are you the guy that hates Dan Warthen?
  15. Swan Swan H wrote: All-star starters? So was Dean Chance. And Mike Scott. And a fella by the name of Seaver. Don't think Lary was. But I'm adding one more pitcher to the list: Warren Spahn. So ... What do these Mets pitchers have in common: Frank Lary Randy Jones Pedro Martinez Orel Hershiser Hideo Nomo Mike Marshall Warren Spahn
  16. Swan Swan H wrote: Jones and Hershiser have first names that come up in Fman's conversation on a regular basis. Yeah.
  17. Edgy DC wrote: They all got MVP support --- multiple-time top-ten MVP finishers or something like that. Johan got MVP votes in several seasons. And he's on the not list.
  18. metsmarathon wrote: all were dodgers once. well, four of them, right? or am i thinking of the wrong mike marshall Both MM's were Dodgers. But that's the wrong answer, still.
  19. I'm looking for an answer here, godamnit, not a theory of categories.
  20. It's all total bullshit anyway. As if six or seven games of baseball can determine anything.
  21. Tough act to follow, scoreboard wise. Good Bad Ugly
  22. What do these Mets pitchers have in common: Frank Lary Randy Jones Pedro Martinez Orel Hershiser Hideo Nomo Mike Marshall OE -- Warren Spahn Hint: Some Mets pitchers who didn't accomplish what the above pitchers did: Bret Saberhagen Johan Santana Bob Friend Frank Viola Frank Tanana Tom Glavine
  23. Doesn't evoke an all-star game. Other than that it says "All Star Game".
  24. The only difference is that Milner bats lefty.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: Because Thole was bad. Really, I don't know either. Josh Thole ain't no J.C. Martin.
