  3. ... and speaking of lists that were a total bitch to compile, I forgot all about this quiz. Anyone still interested? I've got two remaining answers, but I'm not so confident now that there might not be others besides the two I've got. All on account of that I missed three of the last six guesses -- Darrin Jackson, Ed Bressoud and Felix Mantilla, who, it turned out, hit 30, not just 20, for a team other than the Mets. Lemme know. Whoever gets any of the last two I got gets a top secret prize that nobody'll find out about because I'll put it in the winner's inbox and it won't be anybody else's business. Secret prizes is all the new rage here.
  4. Try and compile that list without a searchable database.

  6. Anybody with MeTV, Fonzie's about to jump the shark. After this commercial. Hurry.

  9. Vic Sage wrote: how about the current met who just went on the DL? Niese. That's who I was gonna say. Craig Swan, who was definitely all-star caliber during his 78-79 peak. (Those were also J.R. Richard's peak years). I disagree with the "never being excellent" phrasing as it applies to Swan.
  10. SteveJRogers wrote: The numbers 31 as a Met and 24 as a Mariner were not officially retired until this summer. Despite Griffey Jr in 2013 and Piazza, also in 2013, being inducted into their respective team's Halls in previous years. Either way, doesn't make much difference with Boggs as an answer since the MFYs haven't honored him in either fashion (retired number or MP plaque). Yeah but I wish you'd answer my question so I can figger out how this quiz even works. Do retired numbers count here? Because I think they do according to the original post, but then your response to the Rickey Henderson and Wade Boggs guesses indicates that retired numbers don't count.
  11. SteveJRogers wrote: Eh, I see a lot of differences in the honors. I.e. Number retirements get bigger non-team specific news coverages, etc Meaning what? That the Rays retiring Boggs's number counts or doesn't count?
  12. SteveJRogers wrote: batmagadanleadoff wrote: Wade Boggs - Yanks, Rays, Bosox. Only the Red Sox. Rays do not have a HOF. The Rays may not have a HOF but they retired Boggs's number. Doesn't that count?
  13. Yoenis Cespedes is Mr. August!

  15. Edgy MD wrote: Six Brewers ... and that's all I got. I just took a look at the Brewers walk of fame because I was dumbstruck that the franchise could honor six one-time Mets and George Bamberger, who managed their greatest teams and managed them to their only WS and was beloved, wouldn't be one of them. Boy is that thing liberal. It appears that if you have two or two and a half decent seasons with the Brewers, you get the honor. But not Bambi. I mean, I could see why he isn't in the Mets HOF but not in that Brewers thing? You should see some of the forgettable players on that thing.
  16. Put down Bamberger for the Brewers. And Koufax with the Dodgers if you think that Koufax has Mets ties.
  17. I wonder if the Mets woulda tried harder to keep Murphy if, last off-season, they thought of Herrerra they way they now do.
  18. How come Walt Terrell'$ not on that card?
  19. Oh, those evil genius marketers over at Topps. [fimg=555:1w0y1nc6]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CqFXzY3WcAAGNbJ.jpg[/fimg:1w0y1nc6]

Because if Jon Niese, who came to the Mets from Pitt., ever wins a game for his team this season -- he'd be the 2nd pitcher to have accomplished that feat.
  21. What was the answer to yesterday's SNY in-game baseball quiz -- the only pitcher to beat the Mets and then win one for the Mets all in the same season? I missed the answer. Thanks.
  22. Jeez, it was theoretically possible for the '69 Mets to play a game with a starting battery of Al Jackson and Choo Choo Coleman. That probably woulda jinxed the rest of that season, for sure.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Choo was a 1969 Tidewater Tide, and therefore, amazin'ly, only a foul tip away from being a 1969 champ. And he caught in more games than any other '69 Tide. [fimg=777]https://c2.staticflickr.com/9/8113/28951674681_f9f4dc3196_o.jpg[/fimg] How come he wasn't brought up in September? Legend has it that Gil didn't like having guys on the big club that he knew wouldn't get to play.
  24. Zvon wrote: Wow, this just popped up on twitter. I wonder if should try and colorize that. The quality is kind of rough. great photo tho. Shared by Mets Report. [fimg=500]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cp7vnZBWcAEhuP1.jpg[/fimg] This could be a Shea shot. On April 21, 1966, Choo Choo's last home game ever played for the Mets, Julian Javier scored a run in the first inning Choo Choo was the Mets starting catcher.
