  4. Here we go again with the post-season stats every time a batter steps up to the plate. Because the three at bats from yesterday are so much meaningful than the five or six hundred at bats that preceded this season. Ooooooooooh. It's the playoffs. The playoffs!
  5. Check out this thread at the July 7, 2016 mark. https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/23800/f2_t23852.shtmlhttps://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/archives/23800/f2_t23852.shtml
  6. If anything, playoff baseball is diminished baseball because everybody's hurt and the pitchers are worn out from throwing innings all season long. Some of these players are, no doubt, harboring minor injuries that nobody but themselves know about. Players are worn down and attrition has set in. The Mets sure could use Dedniel Nunez on their roster. (Jeff McNeil, too.). And the Phillies pitching staff definitely looks worn down some. But who knows? It's only two Mets wins we're talking about. It could just the same be randomness. Freddie Freeman looks like a gimp and the secret's now out: Brandon Nimmo is dealing with plantar fascitis. Brandon Nimmo revealed to The Athletic after Sunday night's Game 1 loss in the National League Championship Series that he has been dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot since May. He said he irritated the injury in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. That's why Nimmo could be seen limping throughout the New York Mets' 9-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. “Right now it hurts pretty good,” Nimmo said after going 0-for-3 Sunday. He was pinch hit for in the ninth inning. “The second-to-last game against Philadelphia, I did something on the field and made it quite a bit worse. … When it gets inflamed and flares up, it's a harder thing to calm down.” Nimmo believed he aggravated the injury in the sixth inning of Game 3 last Tuesday, either while faking down the third-base line to distract Phillies pitcher Orion Kerkering or when scoring on Starling Marte's two-run single. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5841786/2024/10/14/mets-brandon-nimmo-plantar-fasciitis-nlcs/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5841786/2024/10/14/mets-brandon-nimmo-plantar-fasciitis-nlcs/

Keith used to take a step towards the pitcher's mound just before making that throw to get a better, that is, a clear and unobstructed angle on that throw and pretty much eliminate the problem of having the runner interfere with the throw. Keith of course, had the advantage of throwing left-handed, which made that tactic possible for him. I think Keith invented that play. And if he didn't invent it, he sure as hell brought it into prominence and made the tactic very noticeable. From what I saw tonight, I don't know what Pete could have done from the angle he was throwing. Pete had an awful angle. It looked to me, that it was impossible for Pete's throw to not hit the runner unless he put so much loft on the throw that it would have been impossible to retire the runner by the time the throw reached second base. And the other thing about Keith is that if he was calling tonight's game, he would've mentioned pretty much everything I put into my post just above because first base defense is smack in the middle of Keith's wheelhouse. But instead, we got shit like announcers fighting each other to see who could be the first person to salivate and slobber all over Ohtani getting a lucky fucking ground ball single that was an accident and that Ohtani surely regretted hitting that grounder and going "Oh Fuck!" inside of his head in Japanese the instant, the millisecond after he made contact with that stupid, lucky fucking three-hopper of a grounder.

  9. Sorry I joined this thread so late in the game. I wasn't sure when the game started.
  10. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=175598 time=1728870217 user_id=68] It's Yogi. And there's not a shred of doubt about that. And the artwork is from about 1965. By the time I was in Junior High School, I owned practically every single Mad paperback anthology, including that one. And Yogi was on that cover, featuring the same exact artwork, even back then. I even vaguely recall a story whereby the original artwork draft featured Yogi in a Yankee uniform, but then Jack Davis updated the art to reflect the Mets recent acquisition of Yogi. BTW, that artwork was for the paperback anthology only, and not for a cover of a Mad magazine featuring new material.
  11. Because once again,, you weren't on your spot on the couch. Who the hell said you could take a shower at that moment?

  14. =whippoorwill post_id=175484 time=1728833488 user_id=79] I'm with you. I'll check the game time that day. If it's inconvenient for me to watch I'll keep track on my phone.

  17. So what would be worse for Yankee fans: Losing to Cleveland and not even making it to the WS or winning the pennant and then losing to the Mets?

Its the approach I'll take whether I'm gonna watch on TV or whether I decide to go in person. I can wait. But if I must divine in advance, maybe I'll ask Brian Ostrosser to whip out his Ouija board and give it a go. Who knows what he's liable to discover? It could be Thursday. Or Tuesday. Or halfway in between and a little to the left. Yes, the CS's could be clinched early, but there could also be rain outs to consider. Or the Martians could attack. The possibilities are infinite.

  20. I always imagined that the Wilpons were secretly scalping unsold Mets tickets on Stubhub and the like for their own personal gain through secret accounts and trusted family members acting as shills. That's some scam, now that I think about it. They'd make more money because they wouldn't have to share the profits from the "scalped" tickets with the rest of the league. lol, put down the tin foil, the wilpons, and the cohens, and roughly every other MLB owner is doing pretty much the same thing and they don't need to bother with illicit accounts or anything like that. they simply chunk and block sections and sell them in different presales, promotions, etc and then use the dynamic pricing module of their ticket service to $$$$$$$$$$ up the artificial scarcity. All of the baseball owners are openly skirting baseball's rules to screw the other owners out of their rightful share of ticket sales revenue?
  21. I hope the game time weather start is higher than 74 degrees but lower than 77 degrees. Whenever that happened this year at Dodger Stadium in a Mets game, the Mets were 1-0. That's undefeated.

Start a lefty consistently? I'd probably go for a righty opener, and then bring in the lefty guns for the middle innings, and then righties out of the pen.

  24. I'd start a lefty. Unless I was starting a righty. Or I'd start a righty. Unless I was starting a lefty. I'd also like to wait until Saturday to see how my pitchers are feeling it. It would also help a lot to know who the hell the Mets are playing. I'm so wacky.
