  1. Justin Verlander.
  2. I agree about the DH - it doesn't create more jobs. It creates different jobs. Wanna create more jobs? Expand the rosters. Otherwise it's a zero sum game; add a DH and lose a position somewhere else.

They think Boras/Scherzer did spend the night trying to get the Westies to bite. They also said that as a union leader, Max wasn't in a position to take a lower offer just to be out west, especially when the Mets were willing to break records.

I would have expected that his OBP would go up as he aged but it fell a bit.
  5. Clayton Kershaw. And a protest vote for Dwight Gooden, who should've also won it before he became an adult.
  6. How bent were they?

Write it down What do you think the deal is with McNeil that he might be expendable? Not as good as his all-star stats suggest? Redundant? A personality issue? Maybe the Mets figger he walks first chance he gets?
  8. You mean not including Mike Scott, of course. Now I'm declaring myself the double winner of this quiz. Fixed https://stockhead-com-au.cdn.ampproject.org/i/s/stockhead.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Facepalm-Jean-Luc-Picard.jpg> I think Mike Scott is the most fascinating pitcher ever to pitch for the Mets. Maybe R.A. Dickey in second. Two Cy Young winners, too! So there.
  9. Interesting that to date Cone is the lone ex-Met to win a Cy Young Award. You mean not including Mike Scott, of course. Now I'm declaring myself the double winner of this quiz. 12. In fact, I know the CYA winners so down cold, I'm declaring myself the winner of this quiz. So let it be written....
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Hey, man, that's consecuguessing. Greg Maddux. Nobody said it wasn't allowed. And it weren't no guess. Youse are lucky I didn't run the table. I could name every CYA winner in order in as little as it takes me to say them.

  15. Denny McClain

As long as the only way to view this involves paying (even more) cash to the Mouse/ESPN conglomerate, this will remain unseen by me. The weird part is that it comes free with the subscription. I guess that's at least partly due to the comprehensive length of it making it such a slog for even the most ardent fanboi. I'm enjoying it, but if I paid 60 quid for it, I'd be pissed. I don't have the service but I think you can sign up for like seven or eight bucks a month and watch the doc in the first month and then cancel.

  18. So who gets the Opening Day start if everybody's healthy: deGrom or Scherzer? All things equal, I guess deGrom. He has seniority.
  19. Mickey Lolich doesn't count as "all-world," but he certainly had a significant run with the Tigers before his lone shitty Met season. Lolich was all-world.
  20. Frank Tanana John Candelaria David Cone Bartolo Colon Dean Chance and lots lots lots lots more.
  21. The only thing that bothers me about the 40 or 43 million dollars a year is that I'm not making 40 or 43 million dollars a year.

I guess if Scherzer signs with the Mets for that amount, ol' Steve Cohen will only have some 13 or 14 billion dollars, less $40M leftover to sign other players. Woe is him. (Like it's my money and I personally hafta pay for Scherzer to play for the Mets.)
