  1. Lefty Specialist wrote: April 2, 2023. Ever drive a car fast, and top 100 MPH? Not just any car. Some creaky sort of car that even in top condition, probably wasn't made to be driven that fast even though you could, technically, top 100 MPH on its speedometer? I did. When I was younger. The car kinda rattles a little and you don't feel like the steering could quite hold at the precision you'd need it to hold at. If you tried that, you wouldn't wanna do it for more than three seconds, and definitely only on a straightaway. If you had to turn at that speed in a car like that, you wouldn't make it out of that turn alive. Anyway, that's what deGrom throwing those 101 MPH fastballs reminds me of, sometimes. On the inside, his body's barely hanging on when those heaters are unleashed.

  3. =roger_that post_id=88357 time=1649117447 user_id=128] Good point. Maybe this thread is premature. Although, it's not impossible. In 2019, he did it both home and away.
  4. =roger_that post_id=88352 time=1649111192 user_id=128] Alonso is now 4th on HR leaders at Citifield, 25 HRs behind Duda. Can you predict the date he will hit HR #26 this season? For tiebreakers (you'll need a schedule to do this part), which pitcher will he hit it off, and on what count?

  6. Who's this de lo Santos guy wearing #20? And what's Alonso's new #?

  8. Stalking you? This is the most absurd self-awareness lacking post I've ever read. For close to 10 years, you relentlessly sought me out to challenge whatever I wrote, disagree with me no matter how contrived and misinformed your responses were and then to mock me - while all the while, I totally ignored you., until I had enough. But I'm stalking you. Your latest thing is to rant about my so called "edited posts" as if they're some part of a master plan to take over the world. 99% of the time, there's not a shred of evidence that I've edited anything, but you continue, nonetheless. And if I did, so what? That, you still havent bothered to explain. But you quote my posts when you have no commentary to add, cluttering the threads with repeat posts, just so that if I were to edit any of those posts, you could say "Aha! He edited his post!" What a moron. But I'm stalking you. Oh my! What did you? Get tired of bullying the new guy?

  10. The silver lining in the cloud: “I think this is a huge relief,” said Dr. Michael Alaia, a sports health expert and associate professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at NYU Langone Health. An MRI exam Friday found the Mets superstar has a stress reaction in his right scapula. According to Alaia, the “extremely rare” injury in lay humans — though not unheard of in pitchers — is caused by repetitive stress on the muscles that are pulling on the shoulder blade bone. The Mets have said their co-ace will not throw for up to four weeks before they get more imaging on his throwing shoulder. Given that deGrom will first have to allow the bone to heal before building back up again, it's possible he won't debut this season until June. But the odds of this injury spiraling into something greater are slight. “Thankfully, most of the time these don't need surgery,” Alaia said over the phone. “Thankfully, most of the time these heal very nicely with a period of relative rest. “If this was something more — like a rotator cuff injury or labrum injury or something soft tissue related that may or may not heal — I think that can potentially bode a little bit more of a negative prognosis, or it could leave the future a little bit more undecided. Bones heal really well in the human body.” https://nypost.com/2022/04/01/medical-professional-believes-jacob-degrom-avoided-the-worst/https://nypost.com/2022/04/01/medical-professional-believes-jacob-degrom-avoided-the-worst/
  11. When I said June, maybe I shoulda said after the All-Star break. I didn't read the original reports closely enough and so I thought I read that deGrom would be expected to be out for four weeks. Instead, the report said that deGrom would be shut down for about four weeks. So now we have to add what would essentially be deGrom's Spring Training once he's cleared to pitch again. I guess if you're a Met fan, ya gotta hope that a few days from now, deGrom says that he suddenly feels fine and that whatever was bothering him went away.
  12. A seven or eight week layoff before deGrom returns is the best case scenario, according to: “Again, it's really hard to say,” Mets GM Billy Eppler said on Friday when asked when he realistically expects deGrom to be pitching a major-league game. “MRIs guide you, but you treat patients. There could be situations where we manipulate the shoulder a little bit, move him around, test him. If he doesn't present with any kind of symptom at that time and everything seems to go well, and it goes well for a number of days in a row, then maybe you're looking at a little bit earlier.” Based on that timeline, and the amount of days it will take for the Mets ace to build back up, deGrom's best-case scenario is missing anywhere from 7-8 weeks of the regular season. He last pitched in an MLB game on July 7, 2021 and missed the entire second half of the season with right elbow inflammation. In addition to the elbow injury, deGrom also dealt with back stiffness, right lat and side tightness, right flexor tendinitis and right shoulder soreness in 2021. https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-jacob-degrom-shoulder-injury-opening-day-20220401-idt2rzj5sjee7gwjtv345ru7iu-story.htmlhttps://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-jacob-degrom-shoulder-injury-opening-day-20220401-idt2rzj5sjee7gwjtv345ru7iu-story.html

  15. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=88112 time=1648844402 user_id=68] Sounds like he's already out of the running for the 2022 Cy Young Award. See you in June, if we're lucky. There's something not right with his arm that isn't showing up on MRI's. He's had these flareups in [CROSSOUT]2019 [/CROSSOUT] 2020 as well.

  18. This is totally plausible. I wouldn't go so far as to say that sticking it to the Yankees was the Mets' main motivating force in retiring Case's number. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets, internally, decided to retire 37 years earlier, like before Shea Stadium debuted. But it could've been a factor. There's no way that it was lost on the Mets that the most successful manager in Yankees history and the manager that presided over ths Yankees' most dominant dynasty was way more popular with Mets fans.
  19. Nothing makes you feel like an old, old man like reading that Cespedes and Bartolo are gonna be participating in a Mets old-timers game.
  20. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=88011 time=1648762787 user_id=68] Also, they'll be re-positioning second base so that it's a little closer to first (and third) base. More base stealing. Easier to go from first to third.
  21. =Gwreck post_id=88009 time=1648761449 user_id=56] -The abomination that is the designated hitter. -The idiotic “ghost runner” rule that privileges weaker teams, and “solves” only a very minor “problem.” -Expanded playoffs, further cheapening the regular season. All is not well. These are not ok changes, and baseball will be forever scarred until they are rescinded. I do expect I can still enjoy the game, but it'll never be quite as good as it was.
  22. Lefty Specialist wrote: Not buying the miraculous recovery. When he pitches, he'll be great, but that won't be enough. 6-3, 2.20 in half a season. Could be 9-0 but weak offense/bad bullpen will blow a few for him as per usual. And he'll watch the postseason from his couch. A season like this one would probably kill Jake's HOF chance, I'd guess.
  23. The giant-sized WSH on those new cherry blossom Nats uniforms and caps might be the best new thing I've seen on a baseball uni in years. Awesome. If it was up to me, I'd ditch the cherry blossoms and otherwise make those big WSH lettered unis their regular everydays.
