    K-Rod

It really seems like you can always count on something along the lines of this happening at least one time every year with this team, especially when they are losing.
  2. Bringing in Figgins and keeping Tejada sets up a scenario where Reyes can be dealt. I am not advocating this personally but others have suggested that a move of that type of magnitude, in addition to making changes at manager and GM, is what is needed in order to shake up the culture around the team. Sheesh, anybody who advocates getting rid of the GM but first have him start dealing off All-Stars is somebody I'm lining up to get away from. Would you put it past Jeff Wilpon? I wouldn't. He and Daddy are probably thinking that they need to salvage attendance for August and September (re: making the splashy move for Figgins now) and then, after the season ends, they will "re-evaluate" the baseball operations.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: It's really just hitting reset on the Castillo contract. Same age-ish Luis was then, more money, but you've got to adjust that. Same skillz and limitationz. Let's just not. And what was it that started the Knicks down the road to oblivion? You guessed it, not simply waiting one year and letting Ewing's contract expire but instead trading it for Glenn Rice's longer contract. Constantly churning aging mediocrity instead of gutting the thing and starting over from scratch is the biggest mistake that big market sports franchises make (and what prevents potential dynastys from forming). Small market teams (like the Rays for instance) do this but then can never afford to keep it once it starts getting good.

  5. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/mets/right_move_wrong_time_AwLVt6InlRra3WZBZ82XYM I still have my concerns over how this organization is managed, but I'm calling bullshit on this one. The kid had two hits and an RBI even despite the horror of having to take an afternoon flight from Buffalo to NY following batting practice. Nothing to see here, people. Although I do agree that Mejia is being botched.
  6. Conspiracy theories notwithstanding, I find it curious that, given. . . a) It looks like it's possible Beltran is either permanently damaged, twerked off at the Mets to the point that he may want to end the relationship as soon as he can, or both and Francoeur seems to be maturing as a player a bit more than he was . . .that the Mets seem to insist upon looking at Fernando Martinez as a rightfielder as opposed to a centerfielder.
  7. Even if Mejia was starting in AA right now, he would not be ready to start for the Mets until at least the middle of next season. He needs a full year in AA and at least half a season in AAA. This, of course, makes it all the more criminal to have him in the major league bullpen right now. Cutting Figueroa with the rotation in this much flux was INSANELY criminal!!
  8. OK, here is a test to see if lessons were learned or not. If Castillo is "day-to-day" for a period approaching or equalling what would have been a stay of the 15-day DL, all the while when we are playing with 24 men and no backup middle infielder (save for Tatis), and with an option on Tejada spent, I would nave to say that there were none.
  9. I don't think that I could ever feel "at home" living in the middle of a concrete jungle, but that's just me. Even Nassau county is a bit much for me nowadays. The East End of LI? That's another story.
  10. Sorry, fellas. . . 72-90 4th place Bob Melvin is the manager by around Memorial Day. Omar is out after the season ends (but maybe before. . .hopefully if they do this they actually conduct a comprehensive search for a new guy and not just promote Ricco as a matter of course). But then it gets better I think. . .
  11. What am I missing here? Either the video I viewed got cut off or there was nothing there that had anything to do with the Yanx. And besides, if the idea was to photo-shop a picture of the half-wrecked YS next to the stub statue of Liberty, that idea was done more than a year ago with Shea. That they actually went ahead and tore down the "old" Yankee Stadium. Yes, we all knew it was coming, but still some of the traditionalists among us might still find it hard to believe (especially since these stadiums are usually built when the teams say that they cannot "compete" without the added revencue streams and we all know that is not true as far as the Yanks are concerned). It was just a joke anyway.
  12. I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy but I can't resist this. . .
  13. New ep of Mets Yearbook, featuring 1980, Tuesday night at 6:30 (record before heading over to Two Boots), rebroadcast Wednesday afternoon at 4:00. Long live Steve Henderson. 1980: The year that my family moved back to NY after six or so years living in Massashusetts/New Hampshire. We had intended to stay at my grandparents in Ozone Park for only a few weeks while waiting for the new house in East Northport to close. Instead, that turned into the entire summer as my Dad's VA loan was being held up. I knew that I was not staying there, so I did not really venture out much to make friends. So, as a way to make it up and because it was so close, Dad took me out to Shea A LOT that season! I was there for the Steve Henderson walk-off. . .it was the first time I really saw and heard Shea really alive! This is the year that I got hooked. It will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart despite it being a 90-loss year.
  14. So I take it that Holt is working out of minor league camp right now?
  15. Torrealba should hold them over a barrel now. . .it would serve them right for what they did to him two years ago.
  16. Which one of these two former top of the rotation starters coming off a serious injury would you rather see in Citifield? Also, do you think that the Mets can/will grab one of these two while also picking up one of the Piniero/Garland/Davis/etc. group (barring a trade for Arroyo/Zambrano/Harang)?
  17. This would be the perfect team for Cuban to take over (if not the Mets like I have previously advocated on here. . .Checketts might actually be a getter fir for the Mets, but I digress). Really, would Selig really continue to shut him out at the price of continuing to see a long-time franchise flounder. For what reason? The Cubs may have been one thing but the Pirates are another.
  18. "Not sure what you consider so controversial." I'm sure that a lot of folks would want to bunch all the power together. So they would balk at Francoeur and, to a lesser extent Molina, hitting behind Murphy. I think however that my combo creates more balance and also more run producing opportunities at the bottom end of the lineup.
  19. I think that the tought process in that Molina stands the best chance to straighten out the heads of the likes of Pelfrey and Perez. Thereby the pitching improves without actually changing a lot of the pitchers themselves.
