  1. Frankie, that at bat sucked. Just saying.
  2. Yeah, but he's been taking gardening lessons from Bob Ojeda.
  3. I don't figure that this will get enough attention for individual game threads, so one thread for the whole series. Game 1 tonight features righthanded finesse pitchers Sonny Gray and Trevor Bauer. I almost scored tickets, as one of my gf's coworkers had extras, but we didn't move quickly enough. So I'll probably pop over to my local shuffleboard arena/bar and watch the game from there.
  4. No worries. I didn't take it personally.

I think the city and the team are looking for a reason to do it that doesn't make it appear that they're simply caving to outside pressure, and a fan rebellion after a Series victory would look silly. Changing the name and/or making any other changes after breaking the winning streak record, not so much. a). No shit I wonder what I meant by this Yeah, I gotta admit that threw me for a loop. In other developments, Tito Francona demonstrates that he's smarter than Yogi Berra by going with his back-end starter over pushing his ace on short rest in ALDS Game 1*. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/10/03/cleveland-indians-alds-game-one-trevor-bauer-corey-kluber *and, yes, I know the situations are different.
  6. Somehow, in this completely crappy season, the team set its single season home run record.
  7. Nope...it goes to whichever team has the better regular season record, as it should.

  9. Dodgers have lost four straight, including the first three games of a four game series in Philadelphia. They have 96 wins with 10 left to play, so they have a reasonable chance of winning fewer than 100 for the season.
  10. Trevor Bauer wrote: "We started 22-0 one year at UCLA," said Bauer, "and I lost that game, too. So I learned you should have somebody else pitch for the 23rd win next time."
  11. ...and it ends with an ex-Met walkoff.
  12. You do that, you'd better be safe. Particularly with Edwin Encarnacion on deck.
  13. I'm in Jersey this week, so I can see the Indians on MLB.tv and not the Mets. Judging from what I see in the boxscores, I'm getting the better end of the deal.
  14. Holy crap.
  15. Ex-Met prospect Drew Butera behind the plate. It's down to two so-so young Indians.
  16. The link says 12, but only lists the top 10: Bruce-47 Walker-34 Flores-29 Cespedes-8 Conforto-7 d'Arnaud-6 Duda-5 Nimmo-3 Granderson-2 Smith-1 The two one-timers not on the list are TJ Rivera and Cabrera. The booth was discussing the cleanup hitter count a few days back. The Mets have used 132 different batting orders this season, with no order used more than three times. And BBRef doesn't count the pitcher as affecting the order, as long as the pitcher's spot in the order is the same (that is, if a starting lineup were identical except that deGrom batted 9th in one lineup and Syndergaard batted 9th in another, BBRef wouldn't count them as different).
  17. Some Jay Bruce content here. Jay is clearly a summa cum laude graduate of the Crash Davis School of Baseball Cliches.
  18. But a 115 OPS+ in the second half, over what's now a non-trivial sample size, with pop, switch-hitting skills, the ability to mentor an up and coming star, and some Metly sentimental value. I wouldn't break the bank for him in 2018, but if it turns out to be a choice between paying him $2M for a year and paying some generic bench player like Aoki $1.5M, give me Jose. If he can demonstrate some competence in the outfield, even better. And what better time than now to test those skills?
  19. No complaints here on this trade. Other than DeGrom, the starting pitchers don't generally go deep into games. So if we're going to lean heavily on the bullpen, it's good to have replacements ready. And I don't know what more we could expect for six weeks of a less than healthy Neil Walker.
  20. One of my Indians fan friends has commented, "Win the Series and retire the Chief!", which is something I can see happening. 21. Would be cool if the 7 Line Army bought up some tickets and rooted for the Rays. All seats for $25 = all seats $25? Including Delta Club and other luxury field level seats?
  22. I always thought that Zimmo in CF was Plan A for the future and Conforto was there only as a stopgap. Conforto's fine, but from what I've seen, he was a corner OF playing out of position. I haven't been watching enough lately to get a sense for Nimmo's fielding abilities, but he definitely seems to have the tools. We know what Lagares can do (go get 'em in CF and hit a soft .275); now is the time to experiment with Nimmo.
