  1. I didn't get a chance to email him. He called me after getting Rubin's email. Nice guy, said he can't disclose any details, but they are working on something special blah blah blah. I think he needs to hear from you guys. How about Adam Rubin? Very cool of him to respond.
  2. Rubin responds: Thanks for your note. I'll forward your email to David Newman, the Mets VP for marketing, who is involved in those types of decisions. Adam Now looking for Newman's email.
  3. Adam, I have been following you since your days at the Daily News. Thanks for your great coverage of the Mets. I am writing to see if you will help my friends and me in our efforts to get the Mets to wear the city agency hats on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 as they did in that first game after the tragedy and for many years thereafter. I thought it was a touching tribute and a great symbol of what we suffered together as a city. I was amazed at the efforts the Mets made during the aftermath of the tragedy. From Bobby Valentine working to all hours of the night, to Joe McEwing driving that forklift, to Shea Stadium's parking lot being a staging grounds for the recovery effort, I have never been more proud to be a Mets fan. There will be many tributes on the tenth anniversary of this tragedy, but I thought the wearing of the hats, spurred by John Franco's personal connection, was spontaneous and heartfelt. I'd love to see this return this year. I realize that MLB has sanctioned special hats, but 9/11 holds special meaning to the Mets, and I'd love to see them defy any regulation and return to their tradition. Thanks Adam. Feel free to cut/paste/edit if so inclined.
  4. Do I have to be on twitter for me to tweet them?
  5. I emailed Matt Cerrone at MetsBlog. mattcerrone@metsblog.com Anyone with email addresses for Rubin, tracksuit, etc. should post them here so we can flood their inboxes. Seawolf, do you want to put something on your patch?
  6. As to the blue jerseys, I'm not a big fan. I think the orange lettering looks kind of awkward. I'd love for them to incorporate a blue jersey, but I'd want it to look something like this: Throw the logo on the sleeve and I'm all set.

Announce defiantly that you intend to do it in perpetuity, and whatever fine MLB gives the team, they will gladly pay it plus an equal amount to a September 11-related orphan scholarship fund. It's personal, MLB. This, a hundred times. Give me a manager that will send the team out there in these hats no matter what the penalty. I want Selig to threaten a forfeit if the players don't don the MLB sanctioned hats, and I want our Manager to respond with "Then we forfeit. We're wearing our hats." An easy way to do this would be to bring back Bobby as the manager. There is no way Bobby lets them take the field in anything but the city agency hats. This doesn't even belong in a uniform thread, where it's mainly about taste. This belongs in a "The Way Things Must ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY Be" thread. Those city agency hats were a symbol of how active the Mets were post-9/11. Bobby Valentine out there in the parking lots, Joe McEwing driving that forklift. When Shea Stadium's parking lot became a staging ground for the relief efforts. I've never been prouder to be a Mets fan. It's idiotic not to wear them. In fact, we should start a movement right now to make sure the Mets wear them on the tenth anniversary. We need blogger help. Bombard everyone with emails. We have less than a month. We have to make this happen.
  8. Look at us. Two chumps who went to work when we both had the opportunity to take our sons to a game on a beautiful day. We suck. CF-Seawolf Similarity Score Rising.
  9. Sold! To the man in the Poison concert t-shirt!
  10. It's the noon game tomorrow. Two tickets, Section 413. It's the Promenade behind home plate. PM me your email address if you want them.
  11. I find it very hard to judge a manager's ability unless he is in a pennant race. Terry seems fine to me, but until we can get into a real pennant race, it's tough to tell what he's got. I'm with Lunchbucket. Roenicke probably takes this without much of a stretch.

There was nothing purposely dirty in the slide yesterday, but if Costanza had slid and stayed on the base, Murphy never would have got hurt. Yesterday was just seriously bad luck. Agreed. Having watched the replay today, I have to agree there was nothing dirty about it. Awkward and shitty, but nothing dirty.
  13. Murphy one of the better hitters on this team. He has to be in the lineup every day. He's not going to play 1st or third, his best positions, because the other players are better. He's not going to play SS, CF or catcher because of obvious defensive shortcomings. That leaves only second base, where he kind of sucks, or the corner OF positions, where he really sucks. Plus he doesn't really hit all that well for a corner OFer. Plug him in at second unless we can find someone who will give us a hitter who fits better into our plans.
  14. Smart phones, stupid people, even stupider commercial.
  15. It's the first inning with one out. There is no way in the world that is indifference. I'd score it a triple based on the options presented. But if I were king, he'd be credited with an infield single, then two bases on defensive incompetence.
  16. Incidentally, why hasn't Ike been out to see that doctor? It's not like he's strapped for time. He's in Arizona anyway, it's not that far.
  17. And before any deal is offered, he should be thoroughly examined by the doctor out in Colorado. Not the one who examined Ike.
  18. Sure. I'm talking more on emotion than any sense of logic, but we need a middle of the order guy (or two) next year. And none of the names I've heard as being available seem like great fits to me. (Sure, there's that poo-hole guy, but I don't think we can afford him.) What other relatively cost-effective guys are out there that you can slot in at #3 in the lineup. Besides, we all say Sandy won't do it, but a two-year incentive laden deal to a bounceback guy sounds like an Alderson-type deal. I have a hard time thinking anyone would be insane enough to give him three years or more.
  19. Terry Collins: [at a team meeting] Can I have your attention, please? I have something I think you all ought to know about. It seems that Mr. Wilpon doesn't think too highly of our worth. He put this team together because he thought we'd be bad enough to finish dead last, knocking attendance down to the point where he could merge this team with the Dodgers... and get rid of all of us for better personnel. Jason Bay: Even me? Collins: Even you, Bay. RA Dickey: What if we DON'T finish last? Collins: He'll REPLACE you with somebody who WILL. After this season, you'll be sent back to the minors or given your outright release. David Wright: [stands] Well then I guess there's only one thing left to do. Bay: What's that? Wright: Win the whole gosh-darn thing. [long pause] Jose Reyes: [stands] Yeah. [pulls shirt out of pants, starts dancing] Lucas Duda: [pounds his hand] YES! Next Day: (except it's Terry instead of Lou Brown, and it's a cardboard cutout of Fred)
  20. Now!!!! Ok, maybe not now. But as soon as that 10 day window is up. Re-sign Beltran, re-sign Jose. Get Santana and Ike healthy, get a few low-risk, high reward-type bullpen guys and I'm ready to roll for 2012. 1. Reyes SS 2. Murphy/Turner 2B 3. Wright 3B 4. Beltran RF 5. Davis 1B 6. Bay/Duda LF (would love to dump Bay, but I don't see it happening) 7. Pagan CF 8. Paulino/Thole C Rotation: Santana Niese Gee Dickey Pelfrey/Capuano/Mejia/Harvey
  21. Too many to run down in one post, hell even one thread. Is it too early to re-sign him? I mean, do we technically have to wait until the season is over?
  22. One thing the replay proves convincingly: Lugo thought he was out.
  23. seawolf17 wrote: I feel like Mike Cameron was a Met really recently, but only Jose and David would remember him as a teammate. Last time he was a Met, Mike Piazza was still a Met. Been a long time. Beltran too. It was Carlos's face that ended Cameron's Met career.
