  1. There were other pictures for "Big O". None of them proper for here.
  2. Fman99 wrote: These are way more fun when you don't have a player in mind. Keep em guessing! Well this is clearly the former Braves third baseman Toast Unicornshitstein.
  3. On the other hand, maybe Reyes is not that great an idea. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2199168-toronto-blue-jays-why-the-team-should-look-to-trade-jose-reyes
  4. Name these players. Create your own.
  5. You know, I wonder if the Reyes possibility is not just a pipe dream. They have a need at second base and have been said to have inquired about Chase Utley and Cole Hamels. Daniel Murphy doesn't have the same star power, but compare his numbers last year and he is almost identical to Utley (.746 OPS vs. .734). Plus Murphy plays at CitiFiedl. Throw in ill-tempered Jon Niese and his team-friendly contract, and maybe the Jays pick up some of the money owed to Reyes. Plus, he's got only 3 guaranteed years left, and is 31 years old. Maybe?
  6. If Murphy gets traded, Dilson Herrera looks kinda leadoffy. Or we could get that SS from Toronto. The one with the big contract they are probably looking to unload.
  7. You would trade Syndegaard for a #7 hitter?
  8. What would Gregorious cost in a trade?
  9. Candidates: Starlin Castro: Looks like a good player. But he is expensive. He doesn't walk, and his biggest asset is his power. Replace Wrigley with Citi and that probably negates a big chunk of it. Even at Wrigley, his career OPS is low .700's. Earlier reports were that the Cubs wanted Wheeler. Alexei Ramirez: Like Stephen Drew last year, is bound to fall back to earth a bit. Another guy who doesn't walk. Even with his good year last year, barely scraped over .700 OPS. Plus he's old. Troy Tulowitzki: Hurt. Older. Expensive. Will cost a boatload of prospects. But clearly the best player here. Hanley Ramirez: Great player, but getting older. Will only cost money and a 2nd round draft pick, now that we have signed Cuddyer. But his best days are likely behind him. I think with the SS options, the key here is avoiding the wrong trade. I would hate to deal young pitching for a marginal increase in offense from the SS position.
  10. Edgy MD wrote: Other bigger guys have said there's no serious discussion. I certainly get that. Rubin just posted as much as I type. Although I don't believe the notion that a maneuver is made and the front office congratulates itself and goes jet skiing. Trades almost have to take place this offseason. The redundancies they have clearly challenge them to do as much. A cleanup hitter? Well, that's always a tough throw. Oh, I don't think they are done making moves, we have too many starters, etc. And I think they will certainly explore upgrading at SS, but I think that the pipe dream of a cleanup hitter, and I realize it was somewhat unrealistic, is over on the first day of the GM meetings.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Not to pull you back in, but. 18 hours ago @JeffPassan Mets aren't done. They've talked with the Rockies about Troy Tulowitzki, sources tell Y! Sports. Fear they can't afford, but talking still. I've heard that too. But do you really think that it is realistic? Tulo would cost at least Wheeler, and several other prospects (Matz, Montero, Nimmo). Plus he is signed for 19 per year over 6 years. He's from Colorado, and on the wrong side of 30. I just don't see this happening.
  12. So the more I think about it, I think the signing of Cuddyer puts this pipe dream to an end. At the end of the off-season, Sandy et al. will cite to Cuddyer as the big bat they needed to get. This type of signing fits perfectly with the rumored philosophy of this regime, which is to build around young starting pitching while mixing and matching a few cheaper pieces to construct the lineup. The buzz from the articles this morning is that the Mets are done upgrading the OF. Which leaves only SS as the possible upgrade. Only Troy Tulowitzki fits the bill of cleanup hitter at SS. And I don't think this is realistic (too expensive, both in dollars and prospects). I think we are done here.
  13. deGrom is really likeable and awkward in this SNY special. He's like the anti-Harvey. If I get a jersey during my adult life, there's a good chance it will be deGrom.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Nobody's signing two-year deals for $20+ million to be a utility guy, or even a super-utility guy. He's here to be the everyday (or at least mostly everyday) RF. Which is more or less why I said I hoped it wouldn't be the "big addition", but suspect that it will be. Still, Chris Young was kind of part-timish, at the same salary as the first half of the contract. So you never know.
  15. Ideally I'd like Cuddyer to be a super utility guy. He can platoon for Granderson and Duda. He can spell Wright at 3B. You can move Granderson to CF on days you rest Lagares. Hopefully between that and injuries he gets 4-5 starts per week. And he can spell that imposing cleanup hitter we get for LF later this offseason.
  16. Cuddyer, 35, will earn $21 million in the deal -- $8.5 million in 2015 and $12.5 million in 2016 -- according to reports. + http://espn.go.com/newyork/mlb/story/_/id/11854223/new-yok-mets-sign-michael-cuddyer-two-year-deal This is crazy. Why would he take such a low deal? Do you think the Rockies knew that he was all set to sign with the Mets before offering a qualifying offer? He could have made $16 million this year alone.
  17. I wonder if this will be it in terms of adding a middle-of-the-lineup bat. I hope it isn't. But I suspect it will be. None of the SS trade proposals interest me at all. I'm fine with Reynolds/Flores/Tejada.
  18. We should have lost more games. Stupid deGrom.
  19. Which I have always felt were two completely valid complaints to have. Even simultaneously. I think I said this at least once a day about the dining halls in college.
  20. You know, I've had some time to think about it, and I realize that my dislike of that uniform is not really based on the uniform itself. It's ugly. Big deal. I don't have to wear it. But it bothers me because it's symbolic of how this Wilpon regime runs things. They are always ones to follow. Other teams have black uniforms? Let's do that too! Wow, Boston loves Sweet Caroline. Let's try that here. Wow, look at those Padres uniforms. Let's get one of those. They are the irritating rich kid that lives on your block that doesn't know what he wants, but goes and gets whatever you get a week after you get it. Meanwhile, a fantastic Mets-only tradition unfolded right before their eyes when the players wore first responder hats. They fucked it up and actually made them stop it. Fucking idiots. I realize now there is only one way the Mets will ever wear first responder hats on 9/11. If some other team does it first.

  22. Awesome. This makes me feel like I'm negative 2 again.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Pinstripes is THE Met kit. It's original, foundational. It links every Met ever, and it says good things to your heart. I know. And as far as I know, I'm the only Met fan that doesn't like the uniform. Can't explain it. I really don't like pinstripes. If we are talking worst jerseys ever, the 80's road jersey with the script New York has to be in the discussion. Why tinker with the best road jersey in the world? It boggles the mind. As for the camo jersey, I think mm's idea about going all camo would be the only way to salvage it. If you are going sand camo, the logo and numbers should be similarly muted so it matches. I think FK is onto something. If we want to honor the military, let's go all out, and for once, be the pioneer on this front. Let's airdrop our players onto the field at the start of each game. When we replace a player, let's have them mime being shot then the bench players can bring a stretcher out on the field. We should break up mound meetings by throwing a toy hand grenade, then everyone fall away like they've been blown up. I think this would be awesome. Or we could just wear a patch of the US flag on our uniform.
