  1. No word on the results of the Wheeler MRI?
  2. Hansel. He's so hot right now.
  3. Great thread. A shame about Darvish. Place your bets now. Who goes under the knife first? Edgin or Tanaka?
  4. Edgin back to NY to meet with doctors about his elbow discomfort. Paging Dr. Andrews...
  5. Which incident happened first? I can picture Wright in the clubhouse: "Holy fuck. What the hell is Murphy saying? Hey Parnell, quick, throw out Thor's lunch!"
  6. And you can tell everybody this is my view It may be quite simple but what can I do?
  7. One more note, Matt Reynolds was one of the compensation picks we got for losing Reyes. How sweet would it be if he actually became the real deal.
  8. Makes it seem like Jose didn't have any intention on re-signing well before he hit free agency. Interesting.
  9. I figured out a way to make sure the Mets make the playoffs this year. Double the schedule to play 324 games. Double-header every day. Pitching staff and catching staff is allowed to double. Everyone else sacks up and plays 2. 10 Man Rotation: 1. Harvey 2. deGrom 3. Niese 4. Wheeler 5. Gee 6. Colon 7. Montero 8. Syndegaard 9. Matz 10. Carlos Torres Closer (AM): Mejia Closer (PM): Parnell Catchers: d'Arnaud Plawecki Recker That other guy who's name I can't remember.

You know, as much as the last few seasons have sucked, one of the cool things is that we've had lots of unexpected great performances. Dickey, Marlon Byrd, deGrom last year. Even Harvey was unexpected in that I never thought he would be as good as he is. This year I'm putting my money on Reynolds as the out of nowhere guy.

  12. Hi. I'm Matt Reynolds. Some of you guys may not know me yet (hell, I didn't even get my own "Forecasts for Fifteen" thread), but I am going to be the starting SS for your New York Mets before the season is over. I know you guys are thinking about Wilmer and Tejada, and hoping for the best. I'm just gonna come out and say it. Wilmer ain't no shortstop. And Tejada sucks. I'm a solid defender. Over AA and AAA last year I was .343/.405/.454. For those arithmetically challenged, that's an .859 OPS. This year, after you guys get done fucking around at the position, I'm going to take over. Wilmer will get traded. So will Murphy. Dilson Herrera and I will take over and hit 1-2 in the lineup. You can put me down for .304/.353/.395.
  13. I think he regresses a bit. .245/.311/.485 26 HR's. 88 RBI.
  14. I don't know who Sean Gilmartin is. But I just want to say that I have an overwhelming urge to answer all of these Forecast threads with: "My prediction? Pain!"
  15. Odd facial hair patterns and frosted tips lead to rumors about sexual orientation.
  16. Um, I'd like to apologize for this picture.
  17. To Toronto third baseman Howie Clark, I'm sorry for yelling "MINE!" while rounding third base, causing you to abandon the pop up. That was a real douchebag move. Sorry.
  18. Hi guys. Alex here. Sorry about starting the whole "first initial of my first name, first syllable of my last name" nicknames. I know it sucks. I suck. Sorry.

This is obviously not a huge issue facing the game, but does it warrant no action? The way the bases are set up also helps LH batters to the extent that they're closer to 1B. I don't think this warrants action either. A so-called extreme shifts only 'hurts' (if you want to use that word, I'd opt maybe for 'challenges' instead) those LHBs who pull almost exclusively and are slow-footed - a fairly small percentage I'd say. You wouldn't pull that shift on Reyes or Ichiro even if they were dead-pull guys because they'd out-run a grounder hit to a 2B positioning himself in short RF. What those LH hitters can do is pull less, or bunt occasionally like Edgy says, and the shifts would disappear overnight. And even as it is, any manager employing a shift is engaging in a risk/reward that's going to cost him outs on occasion too. It then becomes up to him whether he thinks he's stealing more outs than he's losing. Fair points. Interestingly the ones proposing the rule were also arguing "integrity of the game". Meaning baseball has been played forever with two infielders on each side of second base, and now these new defensive shifts are changing the way the game is played. If I had to make a call, I'd probably vote against banning shifts, but I am surprised to see such uniformity from everyone on this board. We never agree about anything.

I'm not sure if I'm missing sarcasm here, but why is this a terrible idea? I've always thought this hurt LH hitters more than RH hitters. I'm not necessarily endorsing the idea, but I don't see any reason for a strong objection.
  22. My idea of offseason shenanigans is a team that claims to be on the verge of contention "improving" their team over the winter by signing a 36 year old OF'er coming off a significant injury and doing dick otherwise. And still not spending any money.
  23. It pisses me off that they look to be just dumping Gee. He is not an All-Star, but he is a serviceable starter, and not a piece to be discarded. I hope that they really are getting something back and not just looking to unload salary.
  24. I'm intrigued by the end of Rosenthal's article. What can the commissioner do if the owners are not putting forth a large budget team? How is that actionable?
  25. I never got the feeling that the Desmond upcoming negotiations were the holdback. It is future Cy Young Award Winner Noah Syndegaard.
