Yup. On Braun, he may, and likely will, fade before the end of the contract, but he's coming off a strong year. 900+ OPS. Really only one off year in the past several. The guy can hit.
  2. I don't think I knew he had been released by the Astros last year. Surprised we didn't kick the tires on that one with our CF hole and Lagares being injured. And Gomez hitting RH.

  4. If it's Matz + Rosario you have to consider making that move. You don't even hesitate if it's Matz plus Dom Smith. Have they no interest in C.J. Brucerson?
  5. If he weren't such a dickhead he'd be a great guy to take a 1 year flyer on. Bad year, but was pretty good in 2015, so he's not far removed from being effective. But he is, in fact, a dickhead, so pass.
  6. Now that song is in my head all day.
  7. Yeah, fuck that. Tell the O's we will just keep them and get 90 HRs from our OF.
  8. Nats close to getting him Heyman says. Others say no go yet. Sale on the Nats is fucking scary. Should Sandy get involved even just to drive up the price? Steven Matz is more proven than Giolito. Where are teams like the Red Sox and Dodgers? Come on guys. Someone step up.
  9. Fuck man. The Nats are threatening to get Chris Sale and we can't get Brad fucking Brach.
  10. It's looking like Sale to the Nats. And they hold on to Tera Turner. Hard to imagine these Nats are going to get even better. Fuck.
  11. I know like next to nothing about this guy. Does he throw hard? What is his off-speed pitch? I see he's 30 years old, so not a young guy.
  12. Oh. I guess that's ok then. Can you imagine if Brad Brach came down with Spinal Stenosis?
  13. Ashie62 wrote: I would trade Matz for McCutchen, and quickly. One has a big resume, one has a small one. Pirate GM would be shot if that went off like that. Maybe we could offer to take back Antonio Bastardo. Where is Jon Niese? Let's sign him and trade him again.
  14. All-Star last year. Good numbers. Could be a good piece. But I dunno. His name sounds a lot like "Bad Back".
  15. I don't know if it's a trajectory. I guess you don't know until you see how it plays out, but his OPS has been dropping each of the last 3 years. .952-.889.-766. I guess if he bounces back it's an aberration. If he gets worse it's a trajectory.
  16. Stupid question here. Why are the Bucs looking to trade McCutchen? I mean, his value is so low right now. Fairly reasonable contract. Why not see if he can bounce back a bit? I guess the downside is he may kill the rest of his value if he tanks again, but we are thinking he can bounce back right?
  17. Per Rubin, an agent says the Mets are "bottom-feeding" on the reliever market. Low cost guys on a 1 year deal.
  18. Meeting this afternoon, stepping up efforts to land Sale.
  19. I know the January covers have already been eliminated, but it would have been funny if the finals came down to Ces signing in January versus Ces signing in December.
  20. I guess the only thing making me nervous is that the Nats are linked to guys like Chris Sale, Andrew McCutcheon, and Mark Melancon. I'm guessing they will get one of the big name closers. Probably Melancon. Hoping they strike out on Sale. Sale would just eat through our lineup. If they get McCutcheon obviously we gotta hope the guy is washed up and gets busted for roids and prostitution and other shit.
  21. I think $13 million and $16 million are what Bruce and Granderson are making. It's like a law that all outfielders have to make one of these two salaries. You know, except Yo.
  22. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Yeah, I think Sandy might look into buying his kids some new Welingtons this Christmas Not sure what Welington (nickname gotta be "BEEF" right?) will ultimately land, but wonder if Sandy was like "ah, shit", holding Rivera's contract with the still-wet ink. Deep, 15-second Google research tells me that Beef's defense is, to quote the internet, "weak". But maybe getting better? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/08/diamondbacks-considering-welington-castillo-extension.html Notably, Castillo has made strides with his defensive work this year, according to Baseball Prospectus’s catcher ratings (subscription required and recommended). He has typically graded as a solid blocker while registering good marks with his arm. And Castillo has also improved greatly as a pitch framer; once one of the game’s least-regarded framers, he now registers as average to slightly below-average (with StatCorner valuing him higher than does BP) at winning strikes for his pitchers.
  23. It's like 72 hours of binge-eating Hot Stove Baseball. Even the stuff that doesn't involve the Mets. It's fascinating stuff. Plus, for 3 days it feels like baseball season even in December. I know the company line is we are going in looking for RH help on the bench and a LH middle reliever. I think Sandy's coming home with Mike Fucking Trout. And of course, Giancarlo Stanton.
  24. If all we can get is a Fernando Salas-type, then I'd be inclined to just hang on to both and sign Fernando Salas. Isn't it fair to say the market value for Bruce should be a ML-ready not-quite-blue-chip-but-still-promising hitter and an A ball pitcher with some upside?
