  1. On a more serious note, there has been little to report substantively on the Cespedes front. I wonder if the offers are not materializing as he would have hoped. And to counter that, his agent is intentionally leaking "interest" from teams designed to freak us out. The MFY's, the Nats, the "wound is still fresh" Giants.
  2. Ok. We get it Ces. Point taken about the Yankees. We'll talk to Sandy about the fifth year, and you stop being a dick and talking to those assholes. Deal?
  3. I think this was about the time I started giving up on the season and looking to next year.
  4. I think you are misremembering a bit on Turner. Turner was outperforming Campbell by just under 200 points in OPS at the ends of their respective Met careers. With the ability to fake it at short, he was still a useful player. I remember Eric Campbell sucked and I didn't like him.
  5. The guys is clearly flirting with girls who are our sworn enemies just to make us jealous. Whatevs.
  6. All this time I thought it was like Round Robin, where the top 3 covers from Pool A move on, or something like that. That is pretty tough. I bet some of these second place covers could go pretty deep.
  7. Wait. So only the winner moves on? Not the top 3? Wow, I am slow top pick up these rules.

One thing I've noticed is that we see the same guys on the cover over and over again. If you had to follow the Mets only by tabloid covers, you'd have no idea that Travis d'Arnaud and Asdrubal Cabrera exist. I suspect that will change for Cabrera in the second half. Travis not as much.
  10. Fuck Seaver. Happy birthday Coach Boeheim.

  13. Brian McCann to the Astros.
  14. She sounds annoyed, more than threatened. Certainly not frantic. But again, you have to investigate. She was injured. Gotta get to the bottom of things.
  15. Did none of the covers from Ces re-signing make it? That's a bit surprising.
  16. 87 second base is Juan Fucking Samuel. His one good year.
  17. I logged on with the intent to post that if you are going to go with an expensive 33 year old first baseman, go the "cheap" route and sign Encarnacion. He is looking for 5 years, $125 million. Similar production, but fewer years and you get to keep your prospects. But the numbers don't bear it out. After digging a little, points to consider: *Votto is 9 months younger, so he is going into his age 33 year, Encarnacion will be 34 on Opening Day *Votto hits, like, a lot better. 100 point differential in OPS. Almost all of due to a much higher OBP. So he's not only a better hitter, he's the type of better hitter this team needs *Oh yeah, defense Still. You're going to pay him until he's 40!
  18. I'm good with this. Teufel sucked as a third base coach. You know how I know that? Because I never paid any attention to who was the third base coach before Teufel. I'm having trouble even remembering any third base coaches. I know we had Cookie Rojas. And that Galante guy who's son I went to school with. But that's it.
  19. Also has a full no trade clause. So you'd have to overcome that. I don't know. Even if the Reds just handed him over, you'd have to pause given that contract. He's 33 years old. You get three good years tops. Then four bad ones. Do you take a deal knowing, even before day 1, that more than half the deal is probably a money drain? Still, his performance is pretty sick. 3 Hole hitter. That is exactly what this team needs.
  20. All over twitterverse tonight that Cespedes texted the organization and indicated his desire to return. This is per Sandy. I didn't know you could text the organization as a whole. How do I get this number? Hey Mets, I would like to get a contract offer too. Text me!
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Lucas Duda, Dominic Smith, Marcos Molina, and Eric Goeddel for Joey Votto. The Mets get the #3 hitter to allow Céspedes to quit pretending and be the cleanup guy he was born to be, and David Wright, God willing, to quit pretending and be that #2 guy. The Reds get their first basemen of the present AND the future, a potential top-of-the-rotation starter, and a reliever that deserves a higher profile than the Mets are giving him. Power, average, and a devastatingly good eye, Votto would be offer maniacal production in the middle of the Mets lineup. signed for seven more seasons plus an option/expensive buyout in 2024, Votto is expensive enough at the end of that contract that the Reds somehow overlook Duda and Molina being damaged goodniks. That contract is ridiculous. I think you wouldn't have to give up all that much for Votto.

Not disputing 'pretty bad' but I think that level is still comfortably average, if not a tick above. I've found I like his decisions more when he's got good players (even beyond the obvious hey they're good stuff) because he seems to trust guys more to just 'be good'. It's when he tries to force and manufacture that I get annoyed mostly. Of course this stuff is usually a factor of record vs expected record too. for the IBWAA I put Farrell, Francona, Showalter and Collins,Maddon,Mattingly. strong NL East bias I wouldn't have thought so until I watched the playoffs. Showalter and Maddon were just crazy. Francona and Roberts were better.
  23. It may well be that Terry Collins is a pretty good manager. There are lots of things to that job that we can't really see or understand. They talk about having the players want to play for a guy, keeping the clubhouse happy, player relationships. All of those things. We are told Terry is great at that. And he probably is. I've not heard of even one guy rumored to have issued with Terry during his time here. How unusual is that? He's pretty good with the media, seems to legitimately want to win. All good things. It's just that he seems pretty bad at the X's and O's, and that is the only real tangible thing we can measure him on.
  24. Have this nightmare where he goes to San Francisco. With Bumgarner. And the Seavers. I know patience is the right move, but dammit Sandy, sign this guy so I can rest. Adam Rubin has an article that the payroll now is about $123 million. http://www.espn.co.uk/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/124810/mets-current-2017-payroll-projection-123-9m If they sign Ces, you figure you are at $150 million. We don't know exactly where the Mets end up, but one has to figure that this doesn't leave much room to upgrade anywhere else. If they trade Bruce, then you have some wiggle room which probably gets used up by a few bullpen arms. They definitely need a quality left-hander. Basically, even if they bring back Cespedes, I don't see how they can upgrade the offense. Not a lot of great options out there, especially in our positions of need, and not a lot of money in the budget to sign free agents. GM-ing is tough.
