  1. WHAT DO WE DO WITH ALL THESE PRODUCTIVE OUTFIELDERS.
  2. Gsellman didn't look great either the other day.

  4. We'll be seeing the World Champion Astros during their first homestand this year. Has anyone been to Minute Maid? Suggestions? Do's and Don'ts? Recommendations on the best beer?
  5. Going to take the kids to Texas for Easter Break. Perfect time to see the Texas stadiums. We'll start with Globe Life Park in Arlington Saturday, March 31. Anyone been there? Suggestions?
  6. Yeah, there are a lot of stones to step over. But one of those stones has been held together with duct tape the last few seasons (Cabrera). Another stone is in decline (Reyes) and the last stone (Flores) can't play defense and has a knack of getting hurt right when a spot opens up. I'm predicting Gavin starts in LV. Cabrera and Flores get hurt around the same time, then the Mets give Gavin a shot because he has hit a bajillion HR's in his first few weeks at LV. Never looks back. Also, he becomes shaving cream in the face guy.

  8. Starting second baseman for the post season. 15 hrs for the season. Plays good defense. In September while we are putting the Nationals in the rear view mirror, everyone will say at least once, wow where would we be without Gavin cechhini.
  9. I think I'll really tire of hearing how awesome he is before April is out. I'm guessing that the man is considerably smarter than Terry Collins, but I'm not sure I will like him more. Maybe that says something about Collins. For a guy I didn't think was a very good manager, I really liked Terry more than he probably deserved. I know it's kind of stupid, but I'm pretty down on Mickey for the way he handled the Trump Jr. thing. Regardless of his politics, I feel like the right thing to do would have been: 1. When Junior shows up, show him the door. Respectfully. Hey Don, it's nice to meet you, but this is a team building exercise, and we'd like to keep it teammates only. 2. And if Junior sticks around, tell his boys, no one mentions this, no pictures, and absolutely no social media. Recognize that Junior is more than just a political figure, and understand how this could be perceived. Drive that message home. Check with the black/Latino players and make sure that they understand that Junior was asked to leave. 3. When it hits the media, give it the gravity it deserves. Recognize that a large portion of the US (and the majority of the fan base) sees him and his family as standing for bigotry and hate. Come out strong and say we recognize these emotions run deep, that this is about more than just politics, and that his appearance at the fishing trip should not be meant to condone or reject any views that the Trumps stand for. Say that you've discussed this matter with the black and Latino players, and make sure that the media is aware that this situation was handled correctly. Mickey did none of this. And so in my book, he's fucked up three times in one incident.
  10. Gets hurt early. Replaced by newly musclebound, I-changed-my-launch-angle Gavin Cecchini, who takes over for the rest of the season.
  11. Hitting 96 MPH. Serious question here, usually pitcher's velocity improves as the spring wears on right?
  12. Duda for $3.5 million blocks nobody. I repeat. There is no reason we should have settled for Adrian Gonzalez.

(Yes, I know it's Easter, but my family is 400 miles away, so I'm pretty wide open.) Dammit. I would have loved to take you up on that but I'll be in Texas. We are going to visit the Rangers and Astros while there.

  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Oh, it's just deGrom and Cespedes. At least it's not anyone important. Last year is a blur to me now. But I feel like we lost Syndergaard, Cespedes and Familia over the course of a week to ten days.
  16. The odd thing is when I see Adrian Gonzalez, he still looks the same. So I expect him to be dangerous. Will be disappointing if he isn’t. But I think there is a good chance he can be good.
  17. 1 year deal. $6.5 million. There is absolutely no reason we should be settling for Adrian Gonzalez.
  18. You figure Vargas will be better in round 2. Bruce could be also. But it remains rare. Bonilla still on the payroll.
  19. I'm worried about Blevins. Lots of use the last few years. I fear his arm falls off in May.
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: Not to pick on Familia who, at least as far as I know, isn't particularly slow in delivering pitches (at least for a reliever) ... but I just couldn't resist the pun. Been meaning to ask. I don't get the pun.
  21. I think the move was more or less assumed once they signed Vargas. But it looks like it's the way they're going. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/mets-plan-start-zack-wheeler-bullpen-source-article-1.3832120 What this does now is give the Mets four bullpen arms that can realistically be starters. Wheeler, Lugo, Gsellman and Montero. We've already seen Montero out of the pen, and he's not very good. As for the other three, it'll be interesting to see how they handle this situation. The dream is that one of these guys turn into Wade Davis. Middling starter who turns unhittable in small doses. Out of the three, I'd wager on Gsellman. From what I read, he has the best overall stuff of the four. But I'm holding out hope that maybe Wheeler can be that guy too. Was also surprised to see how bad Wade Davis was as a starter. In 2013 Wade Davis made 24 starts, was 8-11 with a 5.32 ERA and a WHIP of 1.68. The next year, working out of the pen, ERA of 1.00, WHIP of .85. Wheeler last year: 5.21 ERA, WHIP of 1.59. What. It can happen.
  22. Other than Conforto, I can't remember our last power hitting prospect. I guess it would be Ike Davis. Very excited about Alonso. And as FK says, hits RH so that lessens the redundancy issue. Maybe he could learn to fake it at 3B.
  23. Understood that timing is a factor, but at that price point, I would have liked for the Mets to be in on it. If it didn't work out, there are still productive hitters available. Logan Morrison played some OF I think. Carlos Gonzalez is a reclamation project. You could sign Duda/Morrison for 1B, then sign Cargo as your reclamation. And Jay Bruce might still be available if the Mets didn't take him off the board. Or you go with what you have and get Arrieta.
  24. JD Martinez to Boston. 5 years, $110. Front loaded, so he makes $25 per for the first 2 years. Opt outs after years 2 and 3. Very reasonable contract. Should have been all over this.
