I think the reason the AL game is in the afternoon is because ALCS game 1 is starting Saturday giving whoever has to travel at least a couple extra hours.
  2. Thome's due here, right?

Really, though, you knew Werth was going to do something there leading off, didn't you. Maybe not a walk-off, but I had every belief he'd get on base and start something.
  4. Second and third, nobody out, and no runs because for some reason nate McLouth was going on contact on a comebacker. Come on O's, don't make it easy on them.
  5. And the tying runs are on for the third consecutive inning...
  6. Also didn't help that Hannigan looked at a good pitch. 2- on, 2- out again in the 7th. Ludwick at the dish.
  7. strike em out, throw em out with Hannigan up and a Stubbs groundout ends the threat. 6-3 Gmen as we head to the seventh. Cain out.
  8. A Bruce walk and a Rolen single bring the tying run to the plate with nobody out.
  9. Ludwick homers leading off the 6th. It's now interesting again, down 6-3.
  10. Phillips gets 2 back with a 2-r double. 6-2
  11. Came back early September I think. Cain is dealing too. Another run here for the Giants and the Reds are gonna start getting really nervous.
  12. A bouncer by Pagan, misplayed by Cozart, gives the G-Men a 2-0 lead.
  13. Brandon Crawford triple brings in the game's first run. Top 5, Giants 1-0. Crawford on third with nobody out.

Plus, since you never know until game 4 is over whether 5 is going to be necessary, some planned off days get built even if they're never used. Then they even built in extra off-days a couple years ago in the 2nd round LCSs [something like 2 - travel/off - 2 - no travel but off anyway - 1 - travel/off - 2] so as to reduce the number of AL & NL games that occurred on the same day - again for TV purposes. 2009 was the year they used that to the highest degree and it was a large part of what allowed the Yanx to win the WS using like three pitchers the whole post-season. I guess I was thinking of 2005 when the Angels had to play a game 4 ALDS in NY, game 5 in Anaheim, then game 1 of the LCS in Chicago, on three straight nights. You're right about the extra days in the LCS, those were a joke.

Plus I hate the extra off-days that the 2-2-1 brings into play. But they haven't been using a 2nd off day between games 4 and 5, even in the 2-2-1 format, I don't think.
  16. Not to go all Chris Russo on start times and TV ratings and whatnot, but how can they have a decisive game 5 (featuring a west coast team, mind you) first pitch at 1 PM Eastern? And I know the real answer, that the almighty tv dollar insists the MFYs get the primetime slot. But got that sucks if you are a Giant fan in SF. At the very least, couldn't they have swapped the NL start times, so the Cardinals and Nats would start at 1 instead?
  17. And of course the Tigers have to lose, meaning Verlander has to go today, and subsequently won't be ready until game 3 of the LCS at the earliest, perhaps making the road for Opponent easier. That's if the Tigers win today. So I guess, go A's!

Hitting .214 and then .233 with no particular power during two seasons of AAA ball, he was called up on Aug 31 to replace the injured Rafael Furcal and hit .333/.383/.569 in the majors. The '93 Phils had the same thing with Kevin Stocker. He was never as good in the minors, or even for the rest of his majors career, as he was for that 2nd half of the '93 season. The Cardinals are starting to remind me a bit of the Torre Yanks in this way (Ledee, Spencer, Small, Chacon, Curtis, etc.).

I was looking at the display of baseball cards in the most lifetime hits quiz thread and wondering to myself if anyone would've been able to figure out the question or theme by simply looking at the cards. Anyways, I've spent about 20 or 30 minutes on your quiz, and am no closer to solving it now then when I first logged on to your page. No ideas. Stumped for now. It's rather diabolical. My lack of success on G-Fafif's quiz tells me I'll do no better on your baseball card one.
  20. Shinjo is definitely right...I remember because I do think we've done this before. But I don't have a guess at the other.

  22. Feel dirty writing this, but... Coleman, Vince
