  1. Umps totally blow a swinging third strike hit against Hicks that would have been the third out. Naturally the Yanks tack on 3 runs that inning. And they're still batting. 4-0 bottom two and Francona is already in the bullpen. Preparing myself for a game 5.
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: The biggest complaint about Girardi tonight was that the Yanx didn't challenge the HBP which loaded the bases and preceded the Lindor Grand Slam The HP ump immediately called that it hit the batter's hand but it certainly could have hit the knob of the bat. The Yanx opted not to challenge -- though that's not usually the manger's call -- and the next batter, Lindor, banked a pitch off the foul pole in RF to bring the lead from 8-3 down to 8-7 At that point, what are you saving your challenges for?!? And they get an extra challenge in the postseason right? Sanchez called to the bench for the review immediately; like before Chisenhall even got out of the box. That's totally on the manager there, I don't care how slow their "replay guys" responded. That's potentially the third out of the inning; you have to go to replay. And I think they would have won it. I know it's the Yanks and am thrilled they choked on it, but if I consider "what if Terry had done that in a playoff game?" I would have been livid.
  3. Ramirez is due
  4. Did Chuck Cottier ever coach with the Mets? I feel like that was a name Murph used to announce with zeal. No way is Nick Leyva only 64? Really?
  5. Hal Lanier won 96 games his first year as a manager with some good pitching (hey, when healthy the Mets have that!) and lots of platoonin' (Edgy would love that). He was fiery too! Even the "we need Wally" segment of the fan base would be happy. But, then he led the team two more years and never managed again????? Wha' happen'? Just imagine a world where Dave Smith knows how to get Mets out. Hal Lanier could have ridden a 1986 pennant and World Series to at least a couple more years in Houston, and probably one more managerial job after that. Hmm. Let's find out whatever became of Hal. Bring him in Sandy.
  6. Cue the lunatic "Players came up ready when Wally was at Triple A" fans.
  7. Is this the "Managers who are still alive 2017" thread?
  8. That was a pretty lousy, lazy article from Heyman. Zeile is the only name I hadn't heard elsewhere. What was with the multiple NY Post mentions in the Ventura entry? Is there some kind of zing at Mike Puma that I'm missing?
  9. Lawrence Peter Berra
  10. I'm feeling a 2000 Yankee vibe from them. Wouldn't shock me for them to bottom out all September then turn it on in the postseason.
  11. Lukewarm take: I predict that if the current trend of franchise owners [crossout:2oohr9xt]extorting cities for[/crossout:2oohr9xt] gently requesting public money to finance stadiums holds up, that the next wave of new stadium construction (probably a generation away) will bring back the multi-use facility.
  12. Matt den den dekker?
  13. Come on Angels, overtake the Twins please. I can't watch a 1-game playoff where the opponent plays dead against the MFYs. Twins are a disgrace against this team. At least with Anaheim there's a chance Trout will go off; and Scioscia for all has flaws has eliminated the Yanks from the postseason twice.
  14. Gardy strikes me as an old-school guy whose resume would quickly find its way to the bottom of Sandy's recycling bin. I never followed his game to game strategies, so I don't know... but I sort of remember that he was not a favorite of the more analytically inclined baseball guys. Didn't he also get routinely bashed in our MFY threads for questionable decisions? Martinez seems to be a guy gaining a lot of traction as a future managerial guy. Another candidate who is expected to get interviews this offseason is one time CPF whipping boy Alex Cora, now a bench coach with the Astros.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, Buck still retains full and complete faith down here. And really if you're an O's fan, why not? Remember what a sh&%tshow that organization was? All you heard from the national media was how that team could never be successful with the meddling Angelos as the owner. Since Buck has been there, that narrative has disappeared. I don't know, maybe in Baltimore Angelos still casts a big shadow. But even if just for pushing the owner into the background I'd maintain complete faith in Buck.
  16. smg58 wrote: I don't remember anybody objecting when the Wright extension happened. If anything, people were relieved that the Mets were still willing to commit money to somebody. They're too cheap, except when they aren't, in which case they didn't have the balls to say no. I think batmaganleadoff has been pretty consistent in his objections to the Wright deal; going back to when he signed the extension. That might not have been a popular sentiment, but it's been his. FWIW, I don't think I objected to the Wright deal on here, but I did express reservations to acquaintances on the length of the extension.
  17. I feel like the Rangers got a lot more grief about not swapping home series with the Astros during Harvey. I mean, the Rays do come back to YS the last week, why can't the Yanks just swap the two series?
  18. With this, the MFYs will play 17 of their last 20 (including six with Tampa) games in NYC.
  19. 7 of the final 20 games at home against the Marlins.

  21. If you've never been, walk in front of the warehouse beyond the RF wall...they have small baseball sized plaques for all HRs hit up there since the park's inception.
  22. Visited for the first time this year and loved everything about it. Intimate park, great view of downtown and the bridges. Helpful ushers who gave us suggestions for a good spot to take in BP (he even helped us get the attention of Tyler Pill, who tossed little Solo a ball). Head to Manny's BBQ beyond the RF outfield along the concourse by the river, food was great and not expensive. We even talked with and took pictures with Manny Sanguillen! We stayed in the southern part of the city, but our hotel offered a shuttle into downtown, where we could walk across the bridge. Great experience.
  23. I'll sound like a "blame the victim" guy but damn Wilmer what the hell were you doing swinging at that pitch?
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I remember people saying, after the 2000 season, "The Mets don't need Alex Rodriguez because they have Rey Ordonez." Wow I don't remember that at all. The mongos in Met nation were all over signing ARod, plus they were coming off a pennant with Mike FReaking Bordick playing SS down the stretch. I recall very few people pining for Ordonez over ARod.
  25. OK CC, then tell your defense not to shift, ever. Tell Ellsbury not to deliberately swing real late to get on through catchers interference. Tell your guys not to take extra bases on weak-armed outfielders. Etc, etc.
