  1. A bargaining chip in July because the rest of the staff is fully healthy by then.
  2. Our third best starter. 15-10, 3.50 ERA.
  3. We are thin on right-handed outfielders. I don't see Lagares going anywhere. I think he will provide superlative defense and a .700 OPS, which will be good enough for regular playing time against lefties. Whether he gets more than that will depend on injuries.
  4. 14-10, 3.75 ERA over 200 IP. Not superstar material, but good enough.
  5. Ugh. I've always felt he's never been healthy enough for long enough to really show what he's got at this level. A full UCL tear won't help him any in that regard. I wasn't ready to give up on him, and I guess I'm still not, but I can't see him taking a spot on the 40 over the next offseason if he's still months away.
  6. Earns a late promotion to Vegas. Will get his chance, but not this season.
  7. Forgotten by Memorial Day.
  8. I don't really know with Gsellman. He might not get as many chances as he has the last two seasons, but he could move forward and take advantage when he gets one. Or he could regress and disappear. I'll say an even 4 ERA over 75 IP (mixed starter and reliever), but the error bars are very high.
  9. I'm not as cynical as Grimm is, but I'm worried that he's had his best years. I'll say a 3.20 ERA over 65 innings, but we need one or two relievers to be better than that.
  10. Won't spend the whole year on the 40.
  11. Dilson Herrera was outrighted to the Reds’ AAA affiliate after clearing waivers.
  12. So who's left? I wouldn't mind Greg Holland for the kind of price he's likely to get at this point.
  13. Walker (.823 and .801 OPS the last two seasons) and Cabrera (.810 and .785) aren't radically different with the bat. Cabrera's defensive value at second is a bit of an unknown commodity -- he might improve with a full-time commitment there -- so Walker (no gold glover) is not guaranteed to be better with the glove. Paying $6.5M more to pick up Cabrera's option (factoring in the $2M the Mets were already committed to spend) seemed perfectly reasonable in November. If we're stuck paying slightly more for a slightly less productive player, it's disappointing but hardly backbreaking.

  15. I think it's written into the CBA that you can only be offered it once, or perhaps that you can't be offered it again after you've accepted it once. And the way for these borderline players to discourage teams from making the QO is to accept it when it's offered. I do think players should insist on more time to read the market before accepting or rejecting it, at the very least. I'm guessing that both he and Lance Lynn would have simply grabbed it had they known sooner what the market would be like.
  16. After Stephen Drew, I'm amazed that Boras still could (or would) talk anybody into going that route.
  17. Like a lot of Mets, he had what appears to be an unlucky BABIP last year (.250). I'll be bullish and go with a .260/.340/.460 line and 23 home runs in 480 AB.
  18. He starts off the year in the pen in Vegas, and pitches well enough to get a September call-up and figure into next season's plans.
  19. Picks up where he left off, gives us 120 solid games with something close to the .279/.384/.559 line he put up last year.
  20. Duda gets $3.5M to man first base for the Royals. It's still good value for the Royals, but Duda hurt his market with his .175/.285/.444 line after the trade to Tampa Bay.
  21. Pitches the 16th and 17th innings in that critical 17-inning game in September I mentioned in the Gerson Bautista thread.
  22. Bingo to start off, then Vegas in July. Hits a rough patch in Vegas but gets through it. Gets a call-up in September, pitches the 15th inning in a crucial game the Mets win in 17. When we start a "memories of Gerson Bautista" thread, that's what everybody mentions first -- even though nobody was actually still awake for it.
  23. The Ducks didn't take him back? Pencil me in for exactly the numbers Blevins put up last year. Not even a third of an inning different.
  24. Much like Dilson Herrera two years ago, he tanked in his second season in Vegas -- not a good recipe for getting a permanent call-up. And much like Herrera two years ago, he'll get dealt at the deadline to fill a need before his value evaporates completely.
  25. I would guess that the question to ask is, has the revenue sharing money resulted in a corresponding increase in the team's payroll? And if not, is there a justifiable reason for it? But if there are any sort of clearly defined, objective criteria for evaluating this, I'm not aware of them.
