  1. Oh crap! I don't think Parada is ready. Maybe Chris Williams? A few veteran free agent catchers are still unsigned—including Yasmani Grandal and James McCann. Later
  2. He will continue to outpitch his peripherals. I read a lot of that stuff last year, by nay-sayers who didn't want to believe what they were seeing on the field - really good starting lefty pitcher. I see a breakout year for him: 17-9 3.34 and some Cy Young consideration. Later
  3. Mets down against the Nats tonight, Blackburn feeding the gopher twice. The opposing pitcher is old friend Trevor Williams. 3-1 after 3 OE: Max Kranick continues to make a case for coming North with the big club as a multi-inning middle reliever. Including tonight: 7IP, 4H, 0R,0BB,8K Later
  4. He has $90 million due over the remaining three years of his contract. He's one of those rare starting pitchers listed as under 6 feet tall (5'10") but has shown to be durable, and his K/IP ratio is still outstanding. But at 35/36 years old, will he continue to be good enough to justify that commitment? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grayso01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/g/grayso01.shtml Later
  5. .238-5-25 in a reserve role. Later
  6. If we get more than 10-8 3.00 in 20 starts I'll be pleasantly surprised. Later
  7. Last year Siri had 1.6 dWAR vs Taylor's 0.7. I'm not sure how many more catches that translates to over the course of a season. But a list I saw showed Siri's zone rating last year was 6.2 Taylor wasn't rated (maybe not enough games through August) Bader's was around 2 Nimmo was -.6 (that's minus) So, I can't make a comparison of Siri and Taylor based on that metric. Maybe someone else with access to SABR data will have better luck. Later
  8. I thought it might have been. Later
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: I think the reason he's gone is that he couldn't even finish the double play in the above clip. I mean ya gotta get two there, no? In school we would have called you a tough grader. LOL! Later
  10. A companion story is the Mets pitchers saying how much they have improved as a result of attending the team's pitching lab. Eric Jagers, their vice president of pitching, leads the lab in Port St. Lucie. The behind-the-scenes work sometimes becomes evident with guys like Manaea and Severino and sometimes with prospects such as Christian Scott, who showed promise before requiring elbow surgery. The Mets did not pitch a perfect game last season — bringing in Adrian Houser did not work out — but the more success stories they can boast, the easier it would be to be seen as a destination for pitchers who think there is untapped potential within them. But a growing reputation for becoming a place pitchers want to pitch can be a real recruiting tool. “Combine the in-game experience and what [the Mets are] able to do and just the resources,” Holmes said, “I think their development, even here at the big league level, has kind of spoken for itself.” https://nypost.com/2025/01/27/sports/mets-are-making-pitchers-take-notice-with-their-transformational-work/https://nypost.com/2025/01/27/sports/mets-are-making-pitchers-take-notice-with-their-transformational-work/ Later
  11. Joy and enthusiasm. Later
  12. I'll settle for .225- 17-56 with Tommie Agee-like defense until he gets relegated to defensive reserve duty in August. But those homers are going to go a looooong way. Later
  13. I believe the decline is real. If he plays a full season, His max would be .265-10-60. But I doubt he will play that many games. So my actual prediction is 110 games, .259-8-45. Later
  14. Following their loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday afternoon, the Mets announced that 13 players (six pitchers, seven position players) have been re-assigned to minor league camp. Those 13 players are: RHP Ty Adcock RHP Adbert Alzolay RHP Dom Hamel RHP Oliver Ortega RHP Brandon Sproat RHP Blade Tidwell INF Ryan Clifford OF Drew Gilbert OF Rafael Ortega C Kevin Parada OF Alex Ramirez INF Luke Ritter INF Jett Williams Later
  15. These should be starting soon. Keep them all in one thread so they don't get lost. The first one: According to Metsmerized.com "The Mets have placed reliever Sean Reid-Foley on outright waivers in an attempt to remove him from the 40-man roster since he is out of minor league options." Later
  16. When he came here I had read that he had the reputation of being a bullpen burner, pitching around 5 innings per start. But he sure showed 'em, during that run that Edgy charted (above). I would have liked him back, especially at that $5 million price. Later
  17. What was the source of that review? Los of research went into those first two points. Later
  18. Two scoreless innings each for Senga and Peterson. Later
  19. Using that measure, 27 starts, 3.74 ERA Later
  20. Ex-GM Billy Eppler has signed on as an advisor for the Milwaukee Brewers. https://metsmerizedonline.com/morning-briefing-former-mets-gm-billy-eppler-joins-brewers/ Later
  21. I saw Flashdance and wasn't crazy about it. I saw Footloose and liked it, but wouldn't go out of my way to see it again. I saw Dirty Dancing and loved it, and have seen it again several times. I also loved the dancing in Xanadu (1980) Later
  22. That sounds about right, with maybe 80 RBI. He won't hit for a higher average until cuts down on that violent swing. Later
  23. His name is Edward Norton and I'm rooting for him to finally get the Best Supporting Actor award because I believe he really got screwed out of the award for his performance in Primal Fear. Later RATS! Later
  24. What were the other two? Later
  25. As Dick Young said about Hector "what a pair of hands" Lopez, "He plays fly balls like they'll explode on contact". Later
