  2. While Quintana is waiting by the telephone, Brandon Sproat is looking for a telephone booth to change in. Later
  3. Joe Schultz. Santana (in camp as an advisor) was photographed showing him his changeup. Related? Later
  4. Mine is Bernard Gilkey. My main memory of him is in the movie Men in Black and I forget that really good RBI year. Interesting question. Later
  5. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=185856 time=1740345823 user_id=119] Was fun to be there with my Dad and surrounded by Mets fans. Defense was crisp with at least three double plays. The only run came on a balk. Acuna was the only big prospect to play. I don't know if Alex Ramirez counts as a prospect anymore. Ended with a 1-1 tie. Clover Park looks fantastic with the renovations. Plus I won a Carlos Beltran Bobblehead.
  6. The team has announced (SNY) that they will fill the position from within. https://sny.tv/articles/nick-madrigal-injury-serious-mets-expect-internal-replacementhttps://sny.tv/articles/nick-madrigal-injury-serious-mets-expect-internal-replacement I guess he was to be the backup shortstop. Is Acuna the next man up? Later
  7. Baty has three hits. Everything else is meh. Oh, and it looks like there are three players with a last name of De Santos. I thought they only had two. Later
  8. That's a split squad game. Some regulars are in the other one. I saw the lineup on FB but can't find it now. Later
  9. And my adoptee Trey McLaughlin! Use this as a learning experience, kid. Later
  10. An Omar de Los Santos sighting. And there's Alex Ramirez! These games are fun. Later
  11. =metirish post_id=185806 time=1740248369 user_id=72] Soto HR ,wow
  12. [bIGPURPLE]SOTO BOOM![/bIGPURPLE] Nice way to start. Later
  13. They might lose on style points (it may at times be ugly) but this isn't Olympic figure skating. It will be fine as long as they give up one run less than the other team. I see a lot of 5-4 and 6-5 type games in our future. Later
  14. More likely it was to try and create a trade market for him. Probably right. I'd think the other teams know he has a reputation of having a high maintenance personality. (best words can think of right now - mercurial?) So this would be to show he's healthy enough (mentally and physically) to pitch. Later
  15. MFYs won the game today. Marcus Strohman started and pitched a scoreless inning. He had a presser in which he said he would not pitch out of the bullpen this year. Was this to placate him? Later
  16. Who is going to judge what "well groomed" means? Is there a standard against which beard hairs will be measured? I can just see one of the coaches out there with a caliper measuring individual hairs. If they pluck them before measuring, will they consider the root? Ludicrous. Later
  17. An analytics view of why they're not pursuing Quintana. While Quintana's 3.18 second-half ERA was solid, he might have gotten a bit lucky, as evidenced by his 3.89 FIP and his .269 BAbip. While Quintana undoubtedly pitched well, the batted ball luck skewed in his favor making him a possible regression candidate. Overall, Quintana had a very solid 3.75 ERA in 31 starts and 170.1 innings of work, but he had a 4.56 FIP and a 4.52 xERA. Again, he was good, but might have been a bit lucky too. It's really hard to bet on luck. https://fansided.com/mets-passing-obvious-starting-pitcher-because-metric-nitpick/partners/36534?fbclid=IwY2xjawIl_Z1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHd-jnlNwGqEWkEwe3Bp2B7DjAPWqg47t_ZRJfdozHHpLMQcrLkoMZ5woDA_aem_q0CQGmGG0zxgf0VZavklgAhttps://fansided.com/mets-passing-obvious-starting-pitcher-because-metric-nitpick/partners/36534?fbclid=IwY2xjawIl_Z1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHd-jnlNwGqEWkEwe3Bp2B7DjAPWqg47t_ZRJfdozHHpLMQcrLkoMZ5woDA_aem_q0CQGmGG0zxgf0VZavklgA Later
  18. First game Saturday. Soto scheduled to play. Sproat may pitch. Later
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: I remember reading one time (likely during Christmas season) that buying a car for someone else as a gift is somewhat difficult. It's certainly legal and possible, but there is a lot of red tape and forms involved. A way around that for the average person is to buy the car and then sell it to the second person for a nominal price (e.g.- $1). I did this in Connecticut when I "sold" my car to my grandson. He had no problems registering the car. There has to be a bill of sale (it can be hand written) and it has to show the buyer paid sales tax (whichever state in which the sale was conducted). The bill of sale has to be shown when the car is registered. I'm sure the ballplayer/seller's attorney will know if there are any other details. Later
  20. Let me re-phrase. What specifically about the new electronic strike zone makes you think it will contribute to more pitchers pitching in the Greg Maddux style? Later
  21. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: why not? This is baseball as usual with a chance that up to 2 pitches out of the 150 typically thrown in a game, are bad enough calls get challenged. I'm not considering only called strikes but pitches swung at. He kept expanding the strike zone and batters swung at borderline/ off the plate pitches because they thought they might be called a strike. He "lived on the black". And I think with a consistent zone and the opportunity to challenge calls, the batter may be more secure with what they perceive as a strike. So pitchers may stay within the electronic zone. There are probably some numbers showing percent of pitches swung at with and without the electronic system. But there are very few pitchers with the control of a Maddux to consistently get batters out beyond the strike zone. Just my impression. We'll have to wait and see. So, you think there will be another Maddux? Why? Later
  22. We may never see another Greg Maddux -type pitcher, someone who is successful working the black edges of the plate. Later
  23. Saw the same report on Metsmerized.com. Then I noticed they were quoting the same SI source. Waiting for corroboration. Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: =MFS62 post_id=185585 time=1739991017 user_id=60] Decent pitcher in blowout games. Nail biter in close games. Wow! A pitcher who was more likely to close out a game with a large lead than with a tight one. Has Mr. Ripley been contacted about this for his book?
  25. The first stop heading south on the A train was Dyckman Street. That's all I got. Later
