1. Acuna and Baty may both start the season at the major league level. And Mauricio will be on speed dial. Later
2. One edge he has over other potential call-ups (once healthy) is that he is a switch hitter. Another is that he has power from both sides of the plate. And when he does get healthy and gets called up (July) he will continue to show his power stroke. .250- 14-48 playing second, third and some DH. Later
3. Edgy MD wrote: I just hope you are all ready for Chris Williams Fever. He sounds like the kind of Swiss army knife type of versatile player that every team needs. And, as they used to say in my old neighborhood, "That power don't hoit".* Later * = no homonym intended
4. Edgy MD wrote: And then there's this weird vision of how that world shouldn't be: Yes. That Mets home field has artificial turf. Later
5. Paul Blackburn seems to have figured out what has been wrong and pitched four immaculate innings in today's 2-0 win over the Cards. Later
6. Has broken left hamate bone replaced quad strain as the injury of the year? Both Alvarez and Hagenman have it. Is it catching, or are only batterymen at risk? Later
7. 24 starts 12-9 3.80 Anything more than that and I will be pleasantly surprised. Later
8. I heard that song a lot when I was a kid. RIP. Later
9. Old friend Tomas Nido is currently signed to a minor league contract with the Tigers, so it might not take much to get him back. I'm not sure he would relish a reunion, knowing he would have to fight for the #2 spot when Alvarez returns. But it wouldn't hurt to kick the tires on a deal for him. Later
10. A minor league team gets into the act: Later
11. A Luis Guillorme hit drives in Zack Short to put Houston ahead 5-4. Game's in the 8th inning. OE: 7-4 Houston is the final score, with SR-F giving up the last two runs. Later
12. The Mets open up against Houston. The lineup today says they don't want to give them an early peek at the playbook. (J/K) It gives a lot of guys who may not be regulars a looksee. And the stars don't take bus trips in Spring Training. OE: Tylor Megill with 4 shutout innings. Later
13. Edgy MD wrote: If it doesn't say that, then I guess he doesn't, but I don't see how that's of any consequence. There was a question on another board asking if there are any rookies who will make the club this year. I couldn't find that info on b-ref. Later
14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Looking at that expression on Schmidt's face, I can practically smell marijuana. Haha. Thought the same thing. Later
15. Edgy MD wrote: Chris Williams, as noted above, is immediately behind Torrens in the depth chart. He is guaranteed to make you forget Mike Nickeas, but Jakson Reetz and Kevin Parada and Hayden Senger are all in the mix as well, despite Parada being sent to minor-league camp already. Does Reetz still have rookie status? He has played very sparingly in two major league seasons. But his Baseball reference page doesn't say if he exceeded the rookie status time on a major league roster. Later
16. Good summary. We can always count on Ashie to get to what really counts. My horoscope today: Indulge that one friend or colleague who's got so much to say today. There's no special reason for you to deny them. You may want to shut your mouth entirely. I'll listen to my horoscope on this one. Later
17. My kid, Trey McLoughlin pitched a scoreless ninth (0H, 1BB,1K). Later
18. ZIPS must have bet the under on the parlay of Acuna or Baty coming North as the reserve infielder. Later
19. Channeling Rodney Dangerfield, "The second opinion is... he's ugly." Later
20. I believe Jackson Reetz might be our new catcher Luis Torrens says, "not so fast". Luis hit a two run homer in tonight's game. Later
21. Edgy MD wrote: That is the actual reference he was making. No he was NOT! He was going with Carrol Channing, another actress, who was in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds ( the show that included the song Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend). I was referring to Stockard Channing, who was in Grease. Two totally different references. Later
22. =stevejrogers post_id=186940 time=1741636129 user_id=57] No one connected, or known to them personally, and being very noted persons, especially in Hackman's case, did a check of any kind for that long is the sad part,
23. Frayed Knot wrote: Stockard Canning (RH) P They should have gone with Carol Canning because, you know, baseball diamonds are a girl's best friend. Or, we could go with Stockard Channing, actress of Grease and other movies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockard_Channinghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockard_Channing Later
24. Marte is listed to make his first start of the spring (as a DH) in tonight's game against the Cards. Later
25. Home run by Reetz, fighting for that backup catcher job. Later
