But I won't be able to bury them until they are officialy dead. I can hardly wait. Later

Yancy. we care. we care. That voting, and the discussion surrounding it, has produced some of the most interesting stuff on the CPF this year. Later

]Elsewhere: - Phils lost - Giants got stomped on by the Rox - Reds lose to the Astros - Braves win - and, oh yeah, the Marlins lost to someone Anyone know for sure what the magic number is for the total elimination of the Braves from playoff contention? Later

That's a relief. Mr. Martinez will be happy to know that you have found his fastball. Seems he lost it about midway last year. Please pack it up immediately and send it to him at Shea Stadium. Later

Edgy DC wrote: Kevin Mitchell? I don't recall him being either highly touted or weirdly coiffed. By season's end, those 12 HR in limited playing time started the touting for "the future". But you're right. He wasn't that highly touted when he jopined the club. Wasn't he the one who gave Strawberry and others clubhouse haircuts that caused snickers from others? They said they wanted their hair to look like his. Hey, in a thread like this, you gotta' give folks some leeway. We're trying to think back 20 years. Later

Both teams had highly touted rookie left fielders with weird hair styles. Later

Fred Wilpon got his wish. The Mets played one very significant game in September last night. Later

From last night's post game locker room show: For those that missed it, he was interviewed and at the very end, he takes the champaign and goes "This is my first drink" and made a look to the camera like "yeah, right" I love this kid's 'tude. Later

Sorry. I still want these guys to show that they can hit a lefty starter. Once they've shown that, they can rest for a few games. B'sides Reyes - SS - he still needs 4 triples to join Wilie Mays in rarefied territory. Milledge - LF - get him all the at bats they can give him Beltran - CF - Get his average up vs lefties Wright - 3B - The thought of anyone else at third scares me. Delgado - 1B - His first post season. He's enjoying this. Green - RF - see Beltran Woodward - 2B - At his age, Valentin needs some rest RHernandez - C - Why not let the ex-UCONN catcher have his dream? Glavine - P Later

[quote="baseballfan":37y5g2ob]The Mets assigned Parnell, and four other minor league players to the Hiawaii Winter League. Play starts October 01, 2006 and runs until November 22, 2006. Just for conversation: It seems like playing in Hiawaii is better, in terms of assignment and development, then going to instructs in PSL.... especially for a pitcher... A position player would certainly get more reps in the field at Instructs, and more at bats, but a pitcher can only throw some much......your thoughts?[/quote:37y5g2ob]Welcome, Baseballfan Jim!It depends on how the teams in each fall league are constructed. In the AFL, each team is composed of players from several organizations, with limits on how much they can play. I'm not sure if your players are being coached by someone from another organization that they would get all the development they might if they were coached by folks from their own organization.Later

I'm not as wild nuts crazy as I thought I'd be when the Mets won it. Maybe it was the "certainty" that they would win it for so many weeks. Do you think the advent of the wild card has somehow diminished winning a division title? I dunno. Were you as happy as you thought you'd be? Later

Hail Ming. Later

If, as Tom Seaver used to say, that power pitching starts with the legs, then Bell should be the second coming of Walter Johnson. Later

Nothing wrong with that logic. Side note, has anyone heard whether Ramon Castro will be ready to play by the end of the season? He might provide some righthanded punch against lefties. Later

They have a nice core of young players. As someone said above, if they can come up with another power bat, they can contend in the NL Central in the near future. Later
