  1. Thanks, Doc. Later
  2. Can anyone provide to the players involved in the record they broke? I heard another record they set was combined wins for two pitchers facing each other for the first time. And I don't know the holders of the prior record, either. Later
  3. Henry Owens recorded his first ML save in a game this past weekend. Later

  5. Noticed on a trivia thread on another site: The question was (I paraphrase) "Who were the first PTBNLs involved in Mets trades?" (first player to go, first player to be acquired by the Mets) ]After the expansion draft in October 1961, the Mets looked to supplement their roster and the team that offered the most was the Milwaukee Braves because their attendence was down and their owner had other financial problems. The Mets quickly purchased a couple players from the Braves, but their first "trade" ever was with the Braves in late November and they received Frank Thomas and a PTBNL in exchange for cash and a PTBNL. And, of course, they relieved the Braves off the Thomas salary which was decent for the time. It is not clear how much the PTBNL were publicized at the time of the deal, but the trade was completed in May 1962 when the Mets were in Milwaukee for a series. It was announced that Gus Bell (a veteran outfielder the Mets had picked in the expansion draft from Cincy) was the PTBNL given up for thomas and prospect Rick Herrscher was the acquired from the Braves. Ultimate Mets Database does not show Herrscher as part of the thomas trade, but Baseball-Reference.com does show him as part of thetrade and I view them as the authoritative source. Herrscherr spent some time in the minors before being called up tot the Mets in August for his only MLB stint. He was a utility player like Rod Kanehl who could play any position but none of them extremely well. He hit .220 in 35 games and one home run. Who saw that home run? I did as a young kid attending my second Mets game ever and it was the first time I ever saw them win. He hit the homer less than 300 feet right down the line in the Polo Grounds in the first game of a doubleheader against the Reds. The game capped a three-game winning streak which the Mets only accomplished twice in their innaugural season.
  6. ]Ambidextrous Pitcher Throws With Both Arms.On second look, I guess if he didn't throw with both arms there wouldn't be a story here. Later

I believe Edgy's term "pukie" handles this quite nicely: http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2440873&cp=2667310&parentPage=family Later

  12. These include at least two adoptees: ]March 30, 2007 - The Mets released several long-time minor leaguers today including IF Chase Lambin, OF Bobby Malek, and P Blake McGinley (as mentioned in the Blake the Fake thread), all members of the 2003 St. Lucie Mets championship team. Others released include OF Alhaji Turay and IFs Jay Caligiuri and Kevin Rios. Later
  13. I'm surprised that he never called it Port Salud when the lineup was cheesey. Later
  14. The question was "Who will be the 800th player to wear a Mets Uniform?". Of the players acquired by the Mets since the end of last season, two who will probably be on the 25 man roster coming North are Moises Alou and Damion Easley. It looks like Alou will be in the starting lineup, and Easley won't. But Easley was signed 10 days earlier than Moises (Nov 17 vs Nov 27 of 2006). So, which is the correct answer? Later

  22. The Orioles acquired catcher Alberto Castillo from the Boston Red Sox for minor league outfielder Cory Keylor, the Orioles' minor league player of the year last season after hitting .294 with the Bowie Baysox. Castillo, 37, hit .268 last season for the Class AAA New Orleans Zephyrs, formerly a Washington Nationals affiliate. Perlozzo said Castillo will join the major league camp though he'll likely start the season at Class AAA Norfolk. Castillo is a teammate of Miguel Tejada in the Dominican Winter League. Later
