  1. Yankees play-by-play man John Sterling, on how he'll call Derek Jeter taking over the Yankees mark for career hits. (Mark Feinsand, New York Daily News, as re-printed in Baseball Prospectus) "I like things to be spontaneous. Besides, there's not much you can do with it. The number one Yankee in hits in history? The names are Gehrig, Ruth, DiMaggio and Mantlewhat an honor. What else is there to say?" ******************************** Is he fucking kidding? This is John Sterling we're talking about. He knows his call will be replayed on hundreds, if not thousands, of stations. And those of us who have endured his self-promotional calls over the years know he's already been rehearsing his call for at least three months. Later
  2. What I'd love to happen to Jeter does involve iron, and lightning. But there may be wimmins and chillins reading this. So, use your own imaginations. Later
  3. Well, there's the NCIS marathon for a while (you can't just eat one pistachio). Then, maybe some work around the house. How about you? Later
  4. I have nothing against them as individuals. If they're going to pick up some major league cash, that's fine. But, other than Kunz, they are known qualtities. As a fan of a team with a lot of needs, I'd rather they be seeing what some other players can do. Major league playing time is precious. Its better to use it to evaluate some kids. Later
  5. Why bother? I would hope that none of those Buffalo players would be competing for a spot on the 40 man roster next year, even Kunz. Isn't the call up season traditionally the time when you check out the prospects? This is sad. Later
  6. I know its a bad translation, but I can't imagine that Otero ever played in a "large" League. I saw a Binhmanton game in which Otero, and Q. Veras all played . I was sitting in field level seats and I had to look down to see them. They were so short they were dimensionally challenged. Too bad to hear about him this way. Later
  7. Actually, a statue to the original pre and post game radio crew would be interesting. It included, IIRC, Howard Cosell (or Maybe Marty Glickman), ex-tennis player Gussie Moran and one more person. I'm thinkin' that was Ralph Branca. There's a better chance that statue would be done, since Branca was an ex-Dodger. (Sorry, Kase, couldn't resist ). Later
  8. At this rate of improvement, he seems a good candidate for the HOF. Later
  9. He still appears to have problems getting a jump on ground balls to his left. His hands and arm look ok for short, but still, its that range thingie. OK backup I guess. Later
  10. Nice debut, kid. Keep it up. Later
  11. I wonder which sports jacket they'd have Lindsay wearing. Later
  12. Not enough of the promised anatomy jokes. Its not game time yet, go back to the bullpen and warm up some more. Oh, OK. Great job, especially since you admitted you're not at full throttle. Later
  13. Yikes! I forgot to list two of my Upper Manhattan homeys - Manny and Carew. Later
  14. He finished the night with 4-5, including 2 doubles and the dinger. Later
  15. Memo to Mets outfielders: Wear your roller skates tonight. I have a feelin'. Later
  16. Hit his first AA dinger tonight. You go, kid. Later
  17. Looks like I also forgot our old pals Braden Looper and Aaron Heilman. Later
  18. I was going to post his year's stats, but got that weird message mentioned in the Admin forum. I'll try again when its fixed. Later
