  1. And somewhere, Camera Carter is sobbing. Later
  2. Some 1969 pics. Don't know if this site has been linked before. http://www.life.com/image/ugc1012102/in-gallery/35132/neverseen-pics-of-the-miracle-mets Later
  3. Dear Abby, I'm having a tough time separating the real Yankee loving douchebags from your garden variety frontrunning motherfuckers, who would jump on the bandwagon and root for any winnning team. Any hints as to how I can tell the difference? Please sign me: I want to use the proper epithet Later
  4. Edgy, I still like your line (if not yours, take credit fo it anyhow) that Teuffel and Backman can platoon as coaches. Later
  5. I have some stories about Al Davis that I'm saving for when he passes to the big Super Bowl in the sky. From that picture, it doesn't look like it will be too long, although I hope I'm wrong. He's the best Commisioner Pro football ever had. Later
  6. According to an article in the NY Post, http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/backpage/gammons_jeff_wilpon_real_mets_gm_vNz2jNAkbByLyS1HTrMgQN Peter Gammons says that Jeff Wilpon is the REAL GM of the Mets, and Omar is just there to "take the heat". Thoughts about Gammons' assertion? Later
  7. If you took a poll of folks here, I'm sure they would have picked another day they wish he hadn't come to New York. Later
  8. Kong76 wrote: There was all kinds of monkey business going on to keep from going to Vietnam. I know someone who went into the army and played on a traveling baseball team his whole time in. Yes, baseball. Of course, stuff like that wasn't as 'newsworthy' as draft dodging, war protests, etc. The very father of that guy was as much an Archie Bunker love it or leave it gentleman as you'll ever meet ... but his son played baseball because of connections instead of going to the jungle. I always wondered, if that if you were going into the Reserves or National Guard to avoid getting drafted and seeing combat, why would someone sign up for the Marine Reserves (IIRC like some of the Mets did)? To prove to everyone that you were a tough wuss? Later
  9. Well, to answer the question in the thread title, they could be playing ball with his head. But it is bad. Later
  10. Watched the end of the Boston/ Anaheim ALDS game last night and remembered how much I liked D. Oliver when he was with the Mets. Lackey will be a free agent at the end of the season. I wonder if Oliver will be, too. Later
  11. Here's an article that says they may not have. http://www.newsday.com/business/mets-owner-strikes-out-with-madoff-trustee-1.1502744 Can someone with a financial and/ or legal background please translate this for those of us who don't? Later
  12. Here are Carter's numbers. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=carter003wil The power is there. Later
