  1. At least there's no huge Pepsi bottle like the one at Fenway. At least I didn't notice one. Later
  2. I never said Tejada will be as good as Reyes. I just said my "other" option would be to monitor Reyes' health. If he can't play, or gets re-injured (knocking some serious wood) then I don't think Tejada would be too shabby, and might turn into a pretty good ballplayer. Maybe not anther Reyes, but pretty good. Later
  3. Other = Watch Reyes closely for half a year, but also see how well Tejada is playing at Buffalo. Miguel hit .289 in AA ball at the age of 19 last year. If Reyes continues to have health problems, and Tejada continues to impress, consider replacing him with the kid (long term). He may not be as flashy as Reyes, but I see him developing into a steady, Alfonso- type player. But with a shortstop glove. You gotta' keep your options open. Later

  5. Edgy DC wrote: Of course he does. I think, when the rage dies down, we'll probably see that part of the thinking in going big in left, but not catcher, first, second, or right, is that the team is excited by the prospects that the have coming along at those positions, and they're looking to change on the fly over the next two years. Not a bad plan. There have been a lot of minor league mavens (e.g.- BP, Baseball America, etc.) who are beginning to rate the Mets prospects highly lately. Some are projecting debut years for them. I could see those positions you mentioned being manned by: C - Thole 1B - Davis 2B - Tejada/ Reese Havens RF - Capt. Kirk* or Fernando Martinez by as early as 2011. In the baseball forum, there is a thread about how the winning Yankee teams were based on a home grown "core". This is the first time in a long time that I feel optimistic about the Mets being in a position to do the same thing. Later * = I call him "The Dutch Treat" but, unlike the NFL, will not copywrite it.
  6. Garko to Seattle - one year, $550K or so. Later
  7. He deserves a shot. J Feliciano does also. And they will be getting one in Spring Training. Part of me hopes they will stick after years in the minors. But part of me wonders if they would make the major league team stronger than some of the other alternatives who will be in camp. I guess that's what Spring Training is for. But in his case, I wonder what kind of numbers he would have put up playing in the old Buffalo War Memorial (football) Stadium with the 270' left field fence. Later
  8. Don't teams at the very least get medical files from a player's prior team? Really, not trying to be sarcastic. I don't know the answer to this. Anyone know? Is it mandatory? Later
  9. According to Rotoworld, the Nats have signed Orlando Hudson to a $3 million plus incentives contract for one year. I guess Mets fans who had hoped they would sign him will now call him No-lando Hudson. Later
  10. The light bulb just went on. Isn't Dickey a knuckleballer? I wonder which catcher will get the thrill of catching him. No wonder they want to sign as many catchers as they can. Later
  11. I dunno. If they want a marketing slogan to sell tickets, well, that's the business they're in. If I have any problem with it, it is semantic. (Is that an adjective?) If someone believes, you don't have to tell them to. If someone doesn't believe, I'm not sure you can exhort them to. (Although "You Gotta' Believe" was kinda' catchy. Then again, it came from a player, not a PR type.) Maybe there would be a better choice? Funny, the things you think about on a Sunday afternoon when there isn't a football game to watch. Later
  12. how do you think it would go in New York? (Other than the fact that Toronto has a domed stadium) A sit down Q & A with fans. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100129&content_id=7993568&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb&partnerId=rss_mlb Interesting. What questions would you ask? Later
  13. Thanks. I read a report on him a while ago that said if the Mets were to get another first baseman, Ike had the arm to play right field. Didn't realize it was that good. Later
  14. He's very versatile - could be multiple places. Professional hitter. Later
  15. Rotoworld is reporting the Mets have signed Frank Catalonato to a minor league contract. Good hitter and plays many positions. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/catalfr01.shtml Good pickup. Later
  16. When I saw the question, I immediately thought of Brady Anderson, who hit 50 one year, and never more than 24 in any other year. But I checked. Brady had 210 for his career. Nice question. Yeah, Al Rosen was a helluva hiter. Later
  17. RIP, Jane. Later
  18. Edgy DC wrote: Minor league deal. Great. At least it doesn't mess up those 40 man rosters you work so hard on. Later
  19. Yikes! I was able to finally get to baseball reference.com Fogg hasn't been good even when he was "good": http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/f/foggjo01.shtml Pass, Omar, please. Edit: too late. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/new_york_mets/ Later
  20. I thought I heard that John Niese was at mini camp and has been throwing. The injury seems to be ok. While he might need some time at AAA, I think he will become the fifth starter early in the season. He showed some nice flashes last year. Later

    Two Boots

( Channeling Carnac) Answer: Two Boots Question: What is the result of two ground balls to Butch Huskey? Later
  22. Sign her, er, I mean, him, immediately. Later
  23. One possible reason that nobody has given Feliciano a shot is that he has never hit more than 4 HR in any minor league season. I noticed that he also pitched a few games early in his career. I don't know if his arm was that strong or the reason he never pitched more is that he hurt his arm. If so, that would be another reason why he hasn't made the majors - it would make him a LF/PH only. And that's where his lack of power has held him back. Anyhow, I would have liked to have seen him get a shot, too. Later
  24. Omar: We have a plan Like with Jerry's quote, we all hope he is right, and only time will tell. Later
