  1. Roadies always do a good setup job. Nice one. Anderson Hernandez was called up last week. I wonder who the player was who was moved aside (or to the DL) to make room for him. Later

Frayed Knot wrote: ESPN.com (or ESPN the magazine, or ESPN the dessert topping I can't keep track anymore) conducted a survey of 100 ML players (50 NL & 50 AL - or about 13% of the league) about umpires. The 'no surprise' part? This: Worst: CB Bucknor (37%) - Joe West (35%) - Angel Hernandez (22%) Unless you consider Angel Hernandez not being named on 107% of the ballots qualifying as a surprise. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5281467&campaign=rss&source=ESPNHeadlines The first surprise was that Angel Hernandez' face wasn't the first thing I saw when I clicked on the link. The second surprise was that some players left him off the "worst" list. Later

  4. Don't let anyone talk you into going to Phillips for the crabs - they're over rated. Have fun. Bring us all back T-shirts. Later
  5. Fman99 wrote: She's a YLC. And if you have to ask me what those letters stand for, well, go back and read some of my old posts. Uhhh, let me guess. Does it rhyme with a Jerry Manual tactic for moving runners along? Later
  6. More on Lady Gag Me. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Lady-Gaga-flips-off-New-York-Mets-fans-061010 If you follow the link in that article, you can see the actual act itself. Later
  7. Heard about the triple play last night. Later, SNY was showing a Mets highlight film (so grainy it looked like a kinnescope) of the 1966 (?) season. In it, the Mets turned a triple play. It went Bressoud to Hiller to Hickman. Then I thought , "Hey! Hiller was a terrible fielding second baseman." Then I thought, "Can Reese Havens be any worse than Hiller?" And then I thought , "Trask ....... radio". Then I fell asleep. Later
  8. TheOldMole wrote: My favorite was the caller who asked the Dog, "How is slugging percentage figured?" "Well, it's....well, .450 is a pretty good slugging percentage." "Does it have something to do with total bases?" "No, nothing to do with total bases." Dog made Joe Morgan sound like Bill James. Later
  9. Great job JCL. But shouldn't you be getting ready for your surprise birth..... (oh shit. I ruined it). Later
  10. From Baseball Prospectus, about the imperfect game: "From here we salute Armando. The umpire was wrong ... but, well, the umpire is the umpire." Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez Later

  12. OK, I wanted to wait until y'all fully digested your breakfast before I posted this. In last night's Buffalo game, Mike Jacobs struck out four times and hit a solo homer. Typical, right? Not exactly. His home run was inside the park. See, told ya'. Later
  13. Round 14 pick James Brown, 2B, University of the Pacific, led Pacific with a .376 batting average as a junior. James Brown? I feeeel good! da da da-da da-da da Later
  14. I may have missed it, but Feliciano was, after all the speculation, officially purchased from Buffalo. Good for him..... finally. Later
  15. Here's a report from a friend who is a Nats fan: I was there (right behind the plate no less). It was awesome. My head exploded. The End I expect to get more details when he sobers up. Later
  16. Fman99 wrote: The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders would suffice. Nope. I'd feel like I was in a plastic surgery post-op ward. Later
  17. Bud Harrelson. He was so slight that even if he jumped on my back, I doubt I would get hurt. Ever the pragmatist. PS - keep Frank Howard away from my pile-on. Later
  18. seawolf17 wrote: Dodgers waste a pick on James Baldwin, who retired like four years ago. Maybe they were hoping he'd catch the fire next time. Later
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: DocTee wrote: And the other thing you discover by watching him is that all of his pitches are strikes, the ones called balls are merely the ones the umps miss. Or at least that's the world according to Nats color man Rob Dibble. THE Rob Dibble? The Wild Man Rob Dibble who averaged 4.5 BB per 9 IP during his career? I know he knows fastballs. But how does he know what a strike is, or should be? Sorry I missed the game. I hate it when work interferes with baseball. Later
  20. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Really, though, what's worse... if the kid grabbed dad's drink and is actually having beer, or if his parents thought it would be a good idea to refill a used beer bottle with a child-appropriate beverage? I mean, the former's an unhappy accident, but the latter's a willful act of stupidity garnished with needless complication. It WAS a beer. And Pete Rose bet the kid ten bucks he couldn't chug it. 21. metirish wrote: from mets blog: Mets scout Marlin McPhail watched one outing this season is which Harvey threw 157 pitches. McPhail confessed after watching: "You tend to get a little nervous, quite frankly." I'm not Mr. Pitch Count or anything but 157 for a 20 year old kid? wow. Lennon Looks as though the Mets won't have to worry about Matt Harvey, whom they chose seventh overall in last night's first-year player draft, going deep into games. Harvey, a University of North Carolina junior, threw 157 pitches in a 15-strikeout complete-game victory over Clemson this season. Scouts reported that Harvey's final pitch was 96 mph, a testament to the right-hander's strength and durability. I heard yesterday that he struck out 15 batters in that game. No report whether the coach had guys warming up in the bullpen after Harvey's 108th pitch. Later
  22. ESPN got into the Eckstein love: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/3966/tip-of-the-cap-to-eckstein Fman, you did it again. But we still love you. Later
