  1. I feel like telling the fat lady to sit down and shut up. Later
  2. And if Manny does well, Terry can answer those questions with something like: "Well, Bobby didn't seem to learn very much from the coaches and other experienced relievers we had here. So maybe he'll learn something from watching Acosta actually save some games." Later
  3. Thanks, Later
  4. I was going to post Krauthammer's piece when I got home tonight. Sure won't make me (or anyone else who read DC sports writing) forget Shirley Povich. I couldn't picture the "perpendicular" throw, and am still not sure perpendicular to what. I know, he's a political guy, but ... Ankiel's throw: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=2655396 Later
  5. IIRC, when the Wrigley family sold the Cubs, one of the reasons given was that because of the Corporate Tax law in effect at the time, you could not claim a team as a tax writeoff if it had lost money for seven years. After that, it had to be delared a hobby. I wonder: If that law is still in effect, and How many years they have claimed Mets losses. (Especially to offset profits in SNY and their Madoff holdings) Later
  6. bmfc1 wrote: Herrera has great numbers v. lefties: http://www.metsminorleagueblog.com/mets-get-adrian-rosario-and-danny-ray-herrera-for-k-rod/ That's interesting. I thought lefty screwball pitchers had better success against righty hitters because the ball breaks away from them. Later
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Were any of you present at Josh Satin's birth? I have conflicting reports about his birthplace. Was it Hidden Hills, California? Or Los Angeles? Hidden Hills is part of Los Angeles County. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_Hills,_California Probably like a Riverdale/ Bronx kind of thing. Later
  8. metirish wrote: Was there not a young gun in the minors able to take the start tonight instead of Batista?, nothing against Miquel, just curious. I don't think there's a single pitcher who I would like to see (Familia) who would be able to take this start in a normal turn. At least RA will have someone his own generation and intellect in the clubhouse. Later
  9. I used to think that if Horace Clark and Chuck Hiller could be every day second basemen in the majors, so could I. And Satin has to be better than I was. Welcome to the bigs, Josh, even though your mother still wishes you were a Doctor. Later
  10. Let's start with Alabama. Greatest Ballplayer from There: Willie Mays (Westfield, 1951-1973). Hank Aaron was from Mobile. Later Mays was a greater ballplayer. Probably, but Aaron had more home runs and I wanted to post something in honor of my power being restored. Later
  11. Acosta has the best ERA of any of the Met relievers who pitched tonight? I have some box scores to catch up on. Has he been that effective latesly? Later

  13. Edgy DC wrote: In Mets news, I heard Chris Capuano left last night's game with Minka Kelly. Are you sure she can handle a real man? Later
  14. 1) My bad. (error of enthusiasm?) 2) Yup. (Hey, Clemente walked fewer than 25 times a year for his first 5 years in the majors. And I'm hoping that my kid will one day be spoken of in the same breath as a hitter. After all, he's my kid. I have to think that way. Now don't get all logical on me and spoil my reverie.) Later
  15. Three more hits tonight. My kid's still hitting .398 after over 120 AAA at bats. Later
  16. Ceetar wrote: Jeter up to freaking .299. What a coincidence! That's his range in milimeters. Later
  17. Maybe this proves that Jeter's bat isn't as good as YLDBs have been telling us. Later
  18. Rip that statue of Jackie Robinson down* and replace it with a statue of Capuano. A REAL Met hero. Later * = actually, drop it on Chipper from about 5,000 feet.
  19. Maybe we can cross one name off this list: http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2011/08/25/2011-08-25_yankees_captain_derek_jeter_charlies_angels_star_minka_kelly_split_after_three_y.html Later
  20. Nice job. If necessary, I'm sure some of the music mavens here can get you those Reagan tapes. Later
  21. (I think this is the correct thread) Listened to a bit of the Buffalo game tonight. Playing outfield for the Toledo Mud Hens was an old pal: http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=LF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=340392 Later
  22. Oops. I keep getting these threads mixed up. Moved. Later
  23. I want to put chili powder in Victorino's Preparation H. Later
  24. The guys at the Alamo had a better chance of surviving. Later
  25. From the play 1776. (The paranthetical expressions are mine) John Adams: At a stage in life when other men prosper, I'm reduced to living in (foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy) Philadelphia! Later
