  1. The Reds are a very balanced team, and Washington may be too giddy with their sudden success to win it this year. The MFYs will probably be the AL rep, if only because of all those bottom of the ninths at YS III. Later
  2. The Orioles make the people of St. Louis wish they still had a two team town. Later
  3. The rating scale I used was: E = exceeded my expectations for them this season, M= met them, D= did not meet. 6. metirish wrote: Could Baltimore or Oakland winning help show the lack of a need for a huge payroll? Speaking of Oakland, and the "unknown" young players who got them into the playoffs, weren't many (if not all) of those A's players scouted/analyzed/drafted by DePodesta? Maybe he can work his magic with the Mets. Later
  7. Attn seawolf17: Adam Rubin ?@AdamRubinESPN ..., while using entire bullpen Just what the players on both sides want, a 6 hour ballgame. Later
  8. The old stats VS valuable discussion, and the reason why the Sporting News used to (do they still?) name a "Player of the Year Award" , usually to the player with the best stats, instead of an MVP. You could say the Silver Slugger Awards do the same thing. I hate to say it, but if you take Captain Intangibles out of the Yankee lineup this year, IMO they wouldn't be anywhere close to winning their division. But if you just condider Trout and Cabrera, the record of the Halos with and without Trout in the lineup is a similar situation. Later
  9. duan wrote: what nearly happened, and would have been totally head splittingly hilarious was a 5 way tie for two divisions and two wild cards. How'd they have worked out them apples. Bud will say its the team with the best record in Spring Training games. Later

  11. Vic Sage wrote: and also, of course, there is no way in hell he is going to do this, unless his concussions are starting to have chronic effects and he becomes concerned about dementia. Well, he's already forgotten how to hit. Later
  12. Gee, things out in the bullpen have become a lot less fun than when Jim Brosnan described them in Long Season and Pennant Race. Remember the "fill the cup" game they would play? If you haven't, read about it. But not on a full stomach. Later

  14. Who said the Mets weren't record-setting? Well, at least participating in a record. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/braves-history-medlen-beats-mets-204245573--mlb.html Later
  15. How about a modified DH rule? Eliminate catchers from the Braves' batting order. Later
  16. Will somebody please explain to me why Nickeas is in this game? (Yeah, I know that without a catcher there will be a lot of passed balls. I mean another reason.) Later

  18. Do they still use PECOTA to measure/predict player performance (or whatever it was that it was used for)? OE: Looks like they still do: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=12884 Later

  21. Nice story. Tell your friend that Sandy Koufax is still 20 feet tall to me, too. And for the same reason. And when I heard Howie's call on Green's homer, I kvelled. Later
