  2. Frayed Knot wrote: Game 4 this afternoon in Canada (where Geddy Lee can often be found situated in a seat behind home plate) will feature two ex-Mets as R. A. Dickey goes up against long, tall Chris Young for KC. Quite a contrast between them and the current NYM rotation as neither guy today is likely to get much above 80 on the radar gun. They can run the ball to home plate faster than they can throw it there. Should be fun. I just found out that my Canadian buddy, the Jays fan, will be departing for a trip on the Trans Siberian Railroad tomorrow and will be on the train for the rest of the series. It is his dream trip, and he didn't even think there would be a conflict with the baseball season when he scheduled it. Later
  3. Farmer Ted wrote: Oh, the Chicago media. Sun-Times, 10/19/15 Report: Mets will let Daniel Murphy Go in Free Agency Matt Harvey purchased Insurance For Surgically Repaired Arm Of course, their most famous earlier headline was: "Dewey Wins" Later
  4. Edgy MD wrote: deGrom comes from deLand and went to college at Stetson... in deLand. Ties Daniel Murphy (Jacksonville-born and Jacksonville State-educated) with being the Floridian Mets who traveled the least ways to get to college. True story: Stetson was founded by a rich-assed New Yorker Henry DeLand as "DeLand Academy" in 1883 but was changed to Stetson University by 1889 when DeLand's fortunes started failing and the hat guy took over as the main benefactor. The team's actual name: The Stetson Hatters. And for many years, the Stetson hats were manufactured in Danbury, Ct. (The Hat Capitol of the World) http://www.danburymuseum.org/danburymuseum/Hatting.html Tell THAT to the next cowboy you meet. Later
  5. David has playing like Joe Boyd instead of Joe Hardy. Gil Hodges once went 0-21 in a World Series, and a Priest of a congregation in Brooklyn exhorted his parishioners to pray for Gil. (The story may be apocryphal, I'm not sure) I hope David can snap out of his slump far before Divine intervention is needed. Later
  6. My local Republicans aren't telling me where I can register to vote. But if I could, I'd like to vote a straight ticket for all three. Later
  7. Ex- Pirate pitcher Bob Veale was the first I heard say it, "Good pitching stops good hitting- and vice versa." Yeah, I know. The Cubs swept the Mets this year. But, as in 1969, the Mets will again crush the hopes and dreams of the Cubs fans on their way to another World Series. - in six games. Later
  8. I want to hear for all of them: Queen "We Are The Champions" We'll just make believe they're from the borough of Queens Later
  9. Fasten your seat belts. There will be a lot of YLDBs, fans of other teams, and people who go to sporting events to be seen, jumping on the bandwagon. They can easily be identified when they say things like, "I root for all the New York teams" and wear new Mets hats with flat brims. Welcome their support, but don't get too friendly. And don't trust them. Later
  10. I've warned MMYF not to rearrange the pillows on the couch. Later
  11. Now that they're dead, I want to find out where they will be buried. I want to spit on their grave. Fuckers. Later
  12. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think I may fear Terry's pitching changes as much as I fear Zack Greinke. This is one time when the fans of both teams believe that the only major league manager their guy can out manage is the guy in the other dugout. Later
  13. Lefty Specialist wrote: Zack Greinke is 0-2 with a 7.25 ERA and 1.746 WHIP in four starts with tonight's HP umpire Gary Cederstrom behind home-plate. I heard that on WFAN today (Report from Tracksuit?). He said the reason for that is the ump calls a very tight strike zone. I hope the Mets lay off the pitches outside the zone (especially the low ones) where Greinke likes to pitch. Later
  14. Mets Willets Point wrote: Full nudity. The glow of my pasty skin will distract the Dodgers all the way in LA. It distracted the CPF plenty. Nobody was able to recover enough to post in this thread for almost 45 minutes. JCL was the quickest healer. Later
  15. Its not what I wear, it's where I sit. It has to be in a certain corner of my family room couch, with my feet on the cocktail table. Its the best I can do, ever since MMYF made me get rid of the ratty old recliner (a definite good luck bringer in big games since Super Bowl III). I believe that is grounds for divorce in 47 states. Unfortunately, Connecticut isn't one of them. But if the Mets lose, you can blame her. Later
  16. I wonder if Mattingly will start him in game 5? Later
  17. I hope Greinke isn't the Mike Scott the Mets fought so hard not to face in the 1986 playoffs against Houston. Later
  18. There was another sign that said, "Chase Utley (Heart) ISIS" http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/mets-fan-brings--chase-utley-hearts-isis--sign-to-nlds-game-3-021146274.html Later
  19. Even if he doesn't play, LA has won. The pitchers on both teams will be warned before the game, and this will take the inside of the plate away from Mets pitchers. Later
  20. Suspend him? As they used to say in the old western movies, "Shootin's too good fer him". Later
  21. Edgy MD wrote: I'm hoping Danny Muno can be an option. IIRC, Muno was removed from the 40 man roster during the season. I'm not sure if he has gone through waivers. That formality is necessary before he can be re-added to the roster. Later
  22. Here is a time for Harvey to endear himself to all Mets fans by not only winning the game, but making Utley look bad as well. And, with a big Mets lead in the ninth, if Terry wants to bring in someone to hit Utley in the knee with a fastball, so be it. Later
  23. Wilmer, if Terry lets him play. Later
  24. Blue Jays. There's gonna' be an order of poutine VS a bagel and lox wager with my buddy in Tarana over a Mets/ Jays World Series. Later
  25. Don't they also have Utley and Rollins? We know them. This is going to be tougher than I thought. Not insurmountable. It just makes the L. A. speed bump on the way to World Series victory a little higher. Later
