He died just over three years ago at the age of 92 which leads one to strongly suspect that no one who appeared in that game for either team is alive today. I remember watching Andy Pafko play outfield for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the early 50's. He was a good hitter. But was one of those players who you like, but wish you had somebody better. Later.

  4. Centerfield wrote: But we don't necessarily need him next year, because we have Michael Conforto, Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce. Sure, none of them can do what he does, And what he does is hit right handed with power. IMO the team needs a righty hitter to balance the middle of the lineup, and any other player they get to replace him would have to provide that. Later
  5. Good game, 2-0 Cubs in the third. Later
  6. Centerfield wrote: Also would be cool to let Uecker call a few innings in character too. Once you've had "Uke", other announcers make you want to puke. Later

  10. bmfc1 wrote: Are you frigging kidding me? http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/10/24/world-series-umpiring-crew-announced-hi-joe-west/ Could be worse. It could be Angel Hernandez. Later

  12. Does Mejia take up a roster spot? https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/jenrry-mejia-still-a-member-of-mets-organization/207005566 If he's still a "member of the organization", how? Later
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Man, that's a lot of Yankee reference points. LOL! I even omitted Tony Kubek for brevity. We've discussed this before. The skills can be transferable. Mickey Stanley moved from center to short in a World Series for Detroit, but the three I mentioned may have been the most famous moving to the outfield. And Casey Stengel has been credited with being the first manager to try it. If Gavin has the skills, and there is a logjam in the infield, it might be worth a try if he shows he can hit at the major league level. Later
  14. Did anyone read what part of his defense isn't good? Speed? arm? hands? At 6'2", he could get a righty platoon job at first base. Or if the speed and arm are ok, the "Mickey Mantle/ Bobby Murcer/ Tom Tresh et al" move to center field. Later
  15. Al Rosen (Who got a cuppa' Joe) was on the 1948 Cleveland World Series Champs. Ernie Banks has passed away. But the Cubs can win one for Billy Williams. Later
  16. I still can't name more than three position players on the Indians. I know, Frank Robinson's "Who's Ron Gaspar?" comment shows how something like that can come back to bite you in the tush, but still ... Cubs in 6. Later
  17. I always root for the NL team (Well, with some exceptions, when I abstain). This year, I won't have any problems doing it. Later
  18. I'm sorry. I haven't had anything bad to say about Derek Jeter for a while, and that has disappointed you. So I'll let the best shortstop the Yankees have ever had (but Jeter never let him show it) do it for me. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/alex-rodriguez-nearly-laughed-when-pete-rose-complimented-derek-jeter-214955032.html And I promise to be more diligent in the future. 19. A remake was shown on FOX last night. For some reason (legal restrictions?) the title of the show was: The Rocky Horror Picture Show - Let's Do the Time Warp Again I had a few problems with the production. The biggest was I couldn't hear the sound well. It wasn't that it wasn't loud enough, but I couldn't hear some of the lyrics clearly. Another problem was the director used too many close-ups, losing the fun of the goings-on at the fringes of the stage or in the background. The third problem was some actors trying to speak with a British accent who couldn't. That said, it was good to hear the songs and see the dances again, the acting was appropriately over the top, and the sets were fun. Tim Curry was there, but as the narrator. But then, when it ended at 10PM Eastern Time, the original movie was shown on the LOGO network. And when I saw it I remembered how much better the original film was. I'm not going to post a poll, but would be interested in your comments. Later
  20. Tebow got another hit(an opposite field single). He went 1-4 in the game and is now 2-20 in the Arizona Fall League season. Later
  21. the latest addition to our household is lefty pitcher Thomas Szapucki. After receiving advice from minor league pitching coach Royce Ring last spring (yes, THAT Royce Ring), Thomas learned to have confidence in his changeup, as well as his fastball and curve and had one of the highest strikeout/ innings ratios in the minors in 2016. http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=szapuc000tho He was shut down last season due to back problems that did not require surgery. Help me welcome him to the family. Later
  22. Larry King might not be able to get tickets behind home plate for the games in Chicago. But the look on his face when LA was losing was priceless. Later
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Fuck the Dodgers! Amen! And - Angel Hernandez made a controversial call? Shocking. He seems to be a magnet for them. Later
  24. Reyes is an experienced, productive major leaguer who they will pay only the major league minimum, the balance of his existing contract paid by his prior team(s). Why is this even under discussion? Ridiculous. Later
  25. d'Kong76 wrote: 3. Chicago 1B Anthony Rizzo got a broken-bat field single in the ninth inning of Game 3 to make him 1-for-11 in the series and 2-for-26 in the postseason. In the movie Grease, Rizzo sings There Are Worse Things I Could Do. I guess the Cubs' Rizzo could be 0-for-12 in the series. Later
