  1. That backwards trip around the bases fit right in with those early Mets. RIP, Jimmy. Later
  2. So when Matz and/or Lugo return, who goes to the pen? I'd keep Gsellman in the rotation because he's keeping them in games and move Harvey's fat arse out there. Later
  3. I heard a quote attributed to Yogi Berra, but not sure if he said it, "Predicting is hard, especially when its about the future." But it looks like SI may have nailed this one. Of course, the was the magazine whose football expert (Tex Maulle) predicted the Colts would beat the Jets "66-0" in Super Bowl III. Later

Just slapped around a little bit. Oh, come on now, I'd come up with something more clever than that. If you ever see Mr. Met dry humping a woman in a Big Bird suit, well, then you know I've gone off the reservation. Or a big bird in a woman suit. Kinky. Later
  6. G-Fafif wrote: The employee won't be fired, it has been reported, but won't be on Mr. Met duty any longer. Just saw on WABC that there was a new Mr. Met shooting t-shirts into the crowd at today's game. The perp has been reassigned to another position and will "never wear the Mr. Met outfit again". How will we know its somebody else? Later
  7. Mr. Met's three other fingers represent the number of hits the Mets have so far. Later
  8. Ceetar wrote: And Vince Coleman and the firecracker certainly is history. I still contend that Vince did not intentionally throw that firecracker into the crowd. He simply missed the cutoff man. Later

    LOL Yankees

  10. Frayed Knot wrote: Chase Anderson is one of those pitchers whose complete average-ness makes him virtually anonymous. If he wanted to be totally anonymous, he could move to Rock Ridge and change his name to Johnson. Later
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: This is "funny" but totally not funny. That the Mets just put any party-patrol dumbass in the clothing of its most recognizable branding icon is just unconscionably stupid and reckless. They cut every corner even on their own identity. I hate to say this but the Phillies would never do this. They had 1 Phanatic for years. That's a great point. The Phanatic is scared. He saw what the fans in Philadelphia did to Santa Claus. Later
  12. I'm not sure you can deal someone on the DL(i.e.- Matz, Cespedes) , but if you want to pull the trigger now (no PTBNLs), other than Rosario and Smith, you'd have to pry Conforto, DeGrom, Wilmer and TJ from my cold, dead fingers. Everyone else is negotiable. Later
  13. He was just saying "We're #1". (Or so says a Trump spokesperson.) Later
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Well if they go for a full-time replacement SS then it's going to be Rosario, there's no doubt about that. Neither Reyes nor Flores are the future at that position and Reynolds and/or Cecchini would be temporary placeholders at best. But I think they're a while from putting Cabrera out to pasture. IIRC, Cabrera has another year to go on his contract, and I think he'll probably be here to tutor Rosario for a while. He might move to second when Walker, on the last year of his contract, leaves. 16. Guerra pitching for them? This means war! Later
  17. I fell asleep while the game was still on. So I woke up this morning, poured myself a cup of covfefe , turned on the Sports and was happy with the results. Later
  18. Edgy MD wrote: On the other hand, maybe Sandy and Terry know more (or suspect they know more) about Gselly's mindset than I do, and maybe pitching with nothing to lose was what RG needed. On the post game show, they noted that he is something like 5-0 when he starts on 4 days' rest. Maybe its been the irregular intervals between starts that affected his pitching. Later

  20. Edgy MD wrote: David Wright to begin baseball activities "soon." He's "definitely hopeful" that Wright will return this year. The show stopper in his prior rehab success has been throwing. He hasn't been able to do that. That's what we're waiting to see. Later
  21. We're not the only ones concerned with current baseball writing. http://www.billjamesonline.com/modern_baseball_writing/ Interesting read. I think the reduction in the number of newspapers, and the resultant reduction of newspaper sports writers has been off set by coverage in other media. But I feel that has made the writers who remain get snarkier and more outrageous as they battle for readership and that had made them less readable. Not sure if this should be spun off into a separate thread. Later

Wifey was looking through some old boxes today and found two Tom Seaver bobble head dolls, still in the original boxes. She went on an online sales site and saw them selling for almost $50. She asked me "Should we give them to the grand kids now or hold onto them for a few more years"? What would you folks do? Later
  23. Chad Ochoseis wrote: This could go either here or in political - Jim Bunning, 85 Keep it in the baseball forum, so we can say nice things about him. When he joined the Pirates, my friend the Pirate fan called him "Jim Pennant". It never worked out that way. I remember him on the Tigers, when he and Paul Foytack were a good 1-2 top of the rotation that threw a lot of home run balls in Briggs Stadium. Later

  25. I'm trying the Jedi mind trick, "Terry, don't go to the bullpen". Later
