  1. They made so much about him being a "twice, and ONLY twice" around the lineup pitcher during the playoffs that I'm not sure what the impact would be on the Mets bullpen if they signed him. While I realize the game has changed and not too many starters go seven innings any more, that lit up a buyer beware sign next to his name for me. Later
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I've read in at least two places that the prospect most likely to be able to help the Mets in 2021 is Thomas Szapucki. 24 years old, probably would have spent much of 2020 in Binghamton, but as it is, he's only pitched one game in AA and none in AAA. I hope so and am rooting for him. He was an adoptee of mine in the old board (before the format change a few years ago). I re-adopted him after the board change. Later
  3. Baseball America was the first Top 10 to be published: 1 Francisco Alvarez C 2 Ronny Mauricio SS 3 Andres Gimenez SS* 4 Matt Allan RHP 5 Pete Crow-Armstrong OF 6 Brett Baty 3B 7 Mark Vientos 3B 8 J.T. Ginn RHP 9 David Peterson LHP* 10 Josh Wolf RHP * = Baseball-Reference says Gimenez and Peterson exceeded their rookie limits. But didn't MLB make an exception because of the crazy year? I think the BP list is due the first week in December. Later
  4. Edgy MD wrote: The idea that adding those players took time and money away from the attempt to win a pennant is hard to support. The idea that they are analogous to a rotunda is a stretch and a half. The Syracuse reporter, again, was doing his job. And that is why I deleted my post while you were typing yours. Later
  5. This tells me the Mets better get a GM in place quickly. This is an unusual year, and we may be looking at a different model. Players may be signing earlier than in the past, going for whatever free agent dollars teams will have available well before the Holiday seasons. One signing doesn't make a new model, but we don't want to get hurt if there is one. Later
  6. =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=51305 time=1606225715 user_id=119] The Syracuse beat reporter was doing his job. And Alderson's answer about Tebow was pretty interesting. Alderson was on the Talkin' Baseball podcast a while back and shared how he tried to woo Michael Jordan to the A's when he was talking about playing for the White Sox.
  7. Did anyone ask if David Wright will have a job with the team (forget the title - good will ambassador?) under the new ownership? Even a dumb one like that would have been a better question. More people care about David. Later
  8. None. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Sandy's on now, and he appears to be saying that he hasn't been able to find his candidate and will be leaving the role of president of baseball operations vacant and will focus on appointing a general manager for now. Has anyone asked the question we were wondering - what are the responsibilities of each title? Has anyone asked if this delay will set them back in the signing of free agents? If so, what did he say. OE: looks like I was writing that while others posted. Later
  10. And every caller to WFAN who has come up with a WATP. Later
  11. Thanks. You're right. The way t was written. it sounded like a done deal. I questioned Carpio and Newton myself. But the fact that those players weren't added means to me: 1) The Mets don't have many players in the minors who deserved to be protected, or 2) They want to leave room because there will be many acquisitions. It could be a combination of both. Later
  12. Edgy MD wrote: All reports I have found say that the Mets stood pat at the deadline. MFS, do you have a link to your source? I cut and pasted the list directly from a long email I get every day from "MLB Morning Lineup" which is sent out by MLB.com. It is a compilation of news reports from each major league team. That was part of an article about what each team did before the roster limits were frozen prior to the draft. I just looked and had cleaned out my email folders over the weekend and can't find the link. I just went on their site and looked for Mets transactions and could not find those moves listed. Later
  13. A retired CIA agent considered Red (Retired, extremely dangerous) and his old unit are being marked for assassination. He brings together the surviving members of his unit and along with his girl friend, an old friend and and old enemy try to find out why they have been targeted and by whom. They discover the conspiracy reaches to the highest levels of Government. The all-star cast includes Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and a cameo by Ernest Borgnine. Director Robert Schwentke balances the line between action thriller, light comedy, and caper film. The movie has been all over TV (pay and free stations) for a while. I was surprised nobody had posted it here. Later
  14. According to mlb.com, the prospects from the organization that were added to the 40 man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft were: New York Mets: 14) Shervyen Newton, INF 18) Dedniel Nunez, RHP 22) Michel Otanez, RHP 27) Tony Dibrell, RHP 29) Daison Acosta, RHP 30) Luis Carpio, INF The numbers refer to their rank in the mlb.com rookie top 30 Mets list. There goes those empty roster spots. Later
  15. The only thing higher than the top of his head is his over 8 ERA last year in AAA. And there's nothing else in his past that that seems to merit a major league deal. What good things do others see in his numbers that I don't? Later
  16. Seen 'em all. Casey - gate attraction - the right man when needed. Gil - great leader - I'd both follow him and trust him anywhere Bobby - great magician - made the pieces greater than the sum of the parts Davey - Great innovator - used a PC, kept the numbers and used them very well Luis - incomplete I wouldn't let the rest of them manage my team again, no matter what the circumstances. Later
  17. =G-Fafif post_id=51077 time=1605875168 user_id=55] Exorcise the woe-is-us demons. Make Bobby Bo lovable again. Or for the first time.
  18. I like like Cohen's idea, its like a "Rub the Madoff Scandal in Wilpon's Face Day" cloaked in celebration of Bonilla And they could do it on a Banner Day, so every year fans could show their appreciation for how the Wilpons financially handled the team. Later
  19. LeMahieu, Springer and Bauer As a long time Mets fan, I think Cohen wants to show the MFYs there's a new sheriff in town by signing LeMahieu to establish some normalcy in the infield. And the Springer and Bauer moves are no-brainers. I would have picked just two, but there's that $20 million in new found money that can be used. Later
  20. Who did he think he was fooling and how long did he think he could continue doing it? You can't cure stupid. Later
  21. As per SNY, Cohen announced today that Old-Timer's Day will resume this year. No word yet about Banner Day. Later
  22. Centerfield for General Manager! Later
  23. =bmfc1 post_id=50929 time=1605732204 user_id=73] Can they double-fire Brodie?
  24. Before there were names there, the numbers on the back of uniforms originally represented the position they played. How about the front office people get a number representing their titles and job responsibilities on the back of their shirts? Later
  25. =Centerfield post_id=50867 time=1605669378 user_id=65] I don't know much else about him. But the UCL would concern me.
