  1. MLB should be able to demote umpires who do not score well (in player evaluations) to the minors. Later
  2. Other than at second, this looks like the lineup fullest of starters they've used for a while. Let's see if the offense can start producing runs. Later
  3. At 6'7" (even though he is listed at 205 pounds) I would have expected him to have had a good K/IP ratio in the minors. He would have been scaring the living daylights out of younger guys, with the ratio decreasing as he increased levels. But he has done the opposite, so maybe his coaching has sunk in. Baseball reference lists his birthday as 12/24/94, so at 26 he might be putting it all together. 50 games, 53 middle IP, 48H, 3.85 ERA, 1.29 WHIP maybe even 4 saves. Later
  4. Gotta' see if his arm soreness is just that before I predict anything. I'll come back to this at the end of Spring Training. Later
  5. Here's a writer from the Tampa Bay Times (Tribune Publishing) via Yahoo chiming in on the changes. https://www.yahoo.com/news/want-fix-baseball-let-start-215700806.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/news/want-fix-baseball-let-start-215700806.html The question is whether these changes will address what really ails baseball. While runs, hits, walks, stolen bases, errors and other stats have remained relatively static over the years, there are three ways that the game has changed dramatically. No. 1, home runs are double what they were in 1950. No. 2, strikeouts have basically tripled since 1930. No. 3, and by far the most important, baseball has somehow evolved from a two-hour game to a three-hour-plus game. And I don't see how defensive shifts, pickoffs, larger bases or robot umpires fix any of those problems. Later
  6. =Ceetar post_id=57831 time=1615590910 user_id=102] Might as well ban 70mph squibs through the infield because it wasn't fair that you didn't hit it at a guy.
  7. When I woke up this morning, I never expected to have a Sergio Ferrer sighting. Later
  8. My in-game summary of today's game says, "player singled to left, Frank Tepedino scores". WTF? Is this an old timer's game? Frank Tepedino is 74 years old! And baseball reference doesn't have any other player with that name, not even in the minors. The next meeting of the Time Travelers Association will be held last Thursday at 7:30 PM. Usual place. OE: They've changed it to "player scores" I picked a heckuva day to stop drinking. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: When you hear that name, what will it be in reference to? Being sent to Binghamton. He may finally reach AAA at the end of the year. And, he's still only 21 years old. Sometimes it is tough to project light hitting minor leaguers, especially those who make contact. IIRC Bud Harrelson hit hit just about as well in the majors as he had in the minors. As he matures and gets stronger, those softly hit balls may find their way through the infield and his versatility won't be his only plus. But this is the year he'll have to show that improvement. 10. =seawolf17 post_id=57793 time=1615567250 user_id=91] STOP. CHANGING. THE FUCKING. GAME.
  11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: good. I mean I liked him as an O, seemed to murder us as a Brave, at least as I remember it Yep. Liked him as an O, didn't as a Brave. (Come to think of it, I haven't liked any Brave that didn't play for them in Milwaukee.) Later
  12. I rooted for those 1959 Reds against the forces of evil. Followed them all year because there were rumors they would move to New York to replace the Brooklyn Dodgers. And I didn't remember Jim Bailey. I just looked him up. He went 0-1 in three games. Later
  13. He will show contrition by donating additional money to the pediatric rehabilitation ward that is named after him at the Hackensack Medical Center. Good vibes. Later
  14. He is on such a short leash that one bad outing this spring might be enough to release him. As Lunchie mentioned, that part time gig on SNY looks more and more like the path he'll follow this year. Later
  15. Olevai Shalom. Later
  16. Recently read an article in which he said he has "found" his fastball this Spring. That would be nice, because recently his fastballs have mostly been found under seats in the outfield stands. If he isn't traded, he will become the classic middle inning reliever, never in a tough spot (OUR Ron Piche) - about 50 games, 52 IP, 4,67 ERA, 1.34 WHIP. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Mark Vientos sure tried to, putting up a .750 / .875 / 1.250 // 2.125 line. As someone who remembers the search for a third baseman in the early Mets years, I smile when I see both Vientos and Baty on the top 10 prospects list. A good problem to have. Later
  18. Mickey Jannis trying to make it with Baltimore. Contains a video of him throwing his knuckler. Orioles' video content creator Johnny Douglas captured pitching prospect Mickey Jannis throwing the knuckleball during a spring training game against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Jannis, 33, is a former 44th round pick attempting to bring the knuckleball back. The last full-time pitcher to use it was Steven Wright, who hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2019. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/orioles-share-hypnotizing-video-mickey-183755533.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/orioles-share-hypnotizing-video-mickey-183755533.html Later
  19. =G-Fafif post_id=57653 time=1615326075 user_id=55] Sam McWilliams walks three, follows with three deep-count outs to close.
  20. I'd be interested in the metrics they use for evaluating the NPB and KBO as a way to project performance when players return to the US pro leagues. What is their conversion factor? Later
  21. What ever happened to "just rub some tobacco juice on it and get out there and play? But now that I think of it, what ever happened to tobacco juice in baseball? Is it outlawed formally? Later
  22. He'll be repeating low A until he can improve his 1 K per 3 AB ratio. If he can, he will make it to high A with maybe a cuppa' at AA. Later
  23. Doesn't make the team. Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: I dunno ... Third Base Interesting, until I read the words Though Franco is poor defensively . Do the Mets think pitchers have found a weakness in JD Davis' swing they can exploit and he will continue to decline? But he seems as good as Davis, so they would not lose anything offensively if he had to play for an extended period of time. And, since they wouldn't need to give up any prospects, the price is right. Later
  25. Rheal Cormier, 53, from cancer. He was a Canadian baseball hall-of-famer. https://www.aol.com/longtime-major-league-baseball-pitcher-210146427.htmlhttps://www.aol.com/longtime-major-league-baseball-pitcher-210146427.html In his 16 seasons, Cormier compiled a 71-64 overall record with a 4.03 ERA for the Cardinals, Phillies, Boston Red Sox, Montreal Expos and Cincinnati Reds. He pitched in the postseason twice with Boston, and surrendered no runs over six appearances in the 1999 American League Playoffs. RIP Later
