  1. =MFS62 post_id=74343 time=1628875222 user_id=60] 22 year old Andres is hitting .325-11-34 at Gateway, and throwing out 33% of attempting base stealers. The catchers the Mets kept, and are now at low A? Matt O'Brien is hitting .192 and Juan Uarte is hitting .176. They are both 24 yrs. old. I hope the Mets see the error of their ways and find a place for Andres back in the organization before another team signs him. Later
  2. While we were enjoying the game, the folks in Iowa couldn't. https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/08/12/mlb-tv-blackouts-commissioner-rob-manfred-field-of-dreams-game-top-priority-major-league-baseball/8111648002/https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/sports/baseball/2021/08/12/mlb-tv-blackouts-commissioner-rob-manfred-field-of-dreams-game-top-priority-major-league-baseball/8111648002/ Local blackouts. Echhhh! Later

  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Which brings a question to mind: which states have hosted ML* games despite never having a home franchise? The Brooklyn Dodgers played occasional 'home' games in New Jersey. MLB staged a Sunday Night game (IIRC) in Ft Bragg a few years back putting North Carolina onto the list. Iowa makes three. I suspect there are more though can't think of any right now. * limiting this to NL/AL games since 1901 Not states, but IIRC, Major League home games were played by Brooklyn in Montreal (Pre-Expos, when it was a Brooklyn farm team) and I think some were played in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but I'm not sure if those were regular season or exhibition games. OE: was typing this when Chad Ochoseis poster his response that confirms my comment about San Juan. Later
  8. One of the baseball websites (SNY?) had an article about the series. The gist was, the Nats are at reduced strength due to recent trades and injuries, so one key for the Mets was to avoid giving Soto anything too good to hit with runners on base. Shitfuck. As FK mentioned, the way they have been hitting, this is an insurmountable lead. Later
  9. If you want to the Mets future, and that's better than looking at the Mets present, here are the Free Agents for 2022. I think that Steve will be pissed and want to spend but other than Scherzer, who will likely want to stay in LA, I don't see much for him to buy, especially in the OF: https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/free-agents/ There is one name on that list that jumps out at me. It seems that for the past ten years, every time there is a need for the Mets to acquire a player, there have been stories (rumors?, made up stuff?) in the various media that the Mets were interested in Andrew McCutcheon. I believe the Mets are finally going to get him, just in time for his production to drop faster than a hooker at a bachelor party. Later

  11. Edgy MD wrote: =TransMonk post_id=73933 time=1628520842 user_id=71] It's really hard to imagine an impetus right now. It's not hard for me to imagine an impetus. It's just hard to be right about who or what the impetus will be, when it will arrive, and how substantial the impact will be. I can imagine all sorts of impeti, with varying degrees of likelihood, but the season is going to play out in any number of a billion ways. Some moron ran on the field at Dodger Stadium yesterday, was completely surrounded by security, but managed to squeeze through the perimeter making a break for the low wall in foul territory in rightfield. With a full head of steam, he tried to hurdle the fence, but just as he got aloft, he was closelined by a ballgirl protecting her territory, and went down like a ton of bricks. Impetus? Catalyst! WHO KNOWS?!
  12. I looked through a Chemistry book to come up with an appropriate catalyst analogy and realized this entire team is inert. Later
  13. In 1905, Nap Lajoie suffered an infected spike wound which caused blood poisoning that was attributed to the dye in his socks, and nearly resulted in his leg being amputated. The leg recovered, but the incident led to a new rule requiring teams to use sanitary white socks. It was that injury which led to one of baseball's most unique and enduring looks. Stirrup socks were then introduced to team uniforms to be worn on top of the sanitary socks to display team colors. "The stirrup has become part of the visual signature of baseball as no other sport used it. For a certain generation, myself included, it was kind of a key moment when you got your first Little League uniform and got to pull up those stirrups. I remember how official that felt." — Paul Lukas UniWatch Source: Society for American Baseball Research Later

  15. Mr. Kotter: Why can't the Mets hit? Arnold Horschack: “Ooh-ooh-ooooh, Mr. Kotter!” Mr. Kotter: Yes, Arnold. Do you know the answer? Arnold Horschack: Mr. Kotter. They suck. Later
